Hi Ruby

I was with the Eastern clinic and like you never needed to go there - until Refeed.
i'm sorry you have found them unsupportive - i found them fantastic. If i ever had a problem they would call me and chat for as long as i needed.
I decided to have a personal appointment to go over refeed and went there. They made me feel like a million dollars and so proud of myself. Also advised me correctly when i was not sure when to start refeed.
I dont think its fair to judge a clinic based on one experience. They really are fantastic.

Cheers

Jayne

Thanks for your thoughts Jayne.
I have had a few 'experiences' so far, hence my opinion.
Good on you for achieving such an amazing weight loss by the way.

Hi
Your clinic would have received your result within a week.
I have been told that the examination of subsequent blood tests may yield one of four outcomes:

1. OK
2. OK -> Borderline
3. Borderline -> Deviated
4. Deviated

Although 'OK' sounds mediocre, this means you've been following the program 100%. The clinic will know where you sit, following the test exam. However, don't bother trying to obtain a copy of your blood test results - as they won't hand them over !!!

Hope this helps,
Ruby

Even if you test comes back with a D you still may not hear from your clinic.. they all tend to be different in this regard.. if you REALLY want or need to know then a simple phone call or email should get you the answers you're looking for. Or pop in for a weigh in & ask then (if you're not rural)

Question What does borderline Okay mean?

I have just had the results of my first bloodtest and she has said it has come back with borderline Okay - what does that mean???? (incidentally I have emailled her back and asked her that).

She wants me to check my menu this week against the food list and make sure i am eating the right food - I am eating the right food - I think when you are limited so much you know what foods you can eat????

I am so frustrated by this................

Hi Doona,

I am no expert, but I have not deviated either and my blood test came back showing a minor deviation. My clinic said that this is common place. If i were you, I would keep going like you are now. You have a fantastic loss. Congratulations.

The different chemistry levels that are tested, based on the foods & quantities given based on the baseline bloodtests done prior to starting the program, should stay within a given range provided that everything was followed 'correctly' and accurately. If there was something that was introduced that was not allocated for in the diet, it could cause one or more of the measurement to be out. This may be "outside" acceptable levels (deviation) or borderline high/low due to possible deviations.

My blood pressure prior to starting the program was borderline high (135~138/80~85) It was being held at just under the "high blood pressure" line but is was taking two medications to do that. Anyway, you could be taking the wrong sweeteners without knowing it. You may be taking fruit of unacceptable sizes (too large when all fruits that aren't weighed are to be "Medium") which is subjective at best. You could be, like an issue that cropped up here early this year, when we found out that a certain brand of Curry Powder was not "cohen" (kosher? ). All kinds of things could cause it. Even medications, if not vetted by Dr. Cohen could well be the cause of the borderline. Or, it may well be just you own body makeup but normally your medical history coupled with the blood test should take care of those (provided you did full disclosure).

Fortunately, here in Singapore, you can have your blood test results with no problems. Good and bad I suppose.

Thanks guys

I have since heard back from her and found out a few things - also about yoghurt and curry powder. We are eating everything that is acceptable - sweeteners, fruit, Jalna yoghurt, curry powder everything!!! I am not on medications so that isn't it either.

The only thing I can suggest is perhaps I am not drinking enough water.

thanks again

Hey Doona,

Perhaps it could have something to do with the condiments you are having? I bought some balsamic vinegar and my weight stalled, on the label it said it did have 'caramel colouring' my consultant didn't know if it was okay or not so I just stopped having it.

Also, some mixed herbs have 'illegal' ingredients like breadcrumbs and sugar. In the beginning I had lemon pepper until I realised I was unintentionally deviating...ooops.

Maybe take a look at the ingredients on your condiments? Worth a try.

Suzie

It seriously could be ANYTHING.. this is the amazing thing about this program, the slightest thing wrong will show up..

It could be not enough water.. not quite 5 hours between meals.. over 1 teaspoon of herbs throughout the day.. more than half a tomato per meal or more than one per day etc etc..

I hope you find what it is.. but dont stress too much, so long as your weight hasn't been affected by it..

Good to know you're taking this seriously though

Another reason to be 100 % ........ its so very fine and it does not take much to "Rock the Boat" ...... 1/2 a tomote - how big is a tomatoe ....... and water 1 ltre per 25 kg - so its very very important to stay 100 % and good on you for being concerned ....... and looking carefully at what your doing is good .

Whilst I had consitsently good loss's it may have been better as well.

As I found - even little things I read a week after I had finished re feed that I had missed - tiny little things but still they were there and i had after like 50 plus weeks missed it - so very important to you that you read your plan - check your weights and scales and check your labels - very closely and if in doubt stop and think and get some advise from someone - whether it be here or your clinic. Never ever take it for granted that it will be "OK just this once" ..... if in doubt ........ don't.

If its not on the list you can not have it.

Andy

Andy,

I am still curious about the water consumption myself. In my program, nowhere did it say we had to drink 1 liter per 25kg of weight. Where in the "Cohen Program" did that come from?

My program specifically said dring 2 litres a day minimum but 3 litres is better. Nowhere did it indicate we should drink in excess or did it say more than 3 litres is desirable. It did say if you don't drink enough water you will not lose fat at the optimum rate. But is doesn't say exceed 3 litres. Additionally, I believe if we drink too much water we remove too many natural salts from our bodies which is not healthy either. So I'm still curious where that "Cohen" rule came from.

My information is coming from the very first page of the program entitled "The Golden Rules".

I don't have a pathology request form here but firstly when you get one from your clinic - read it - then complete the section on it to have the results also forwarded to your family or local Doctor - that way then you can go and receive some informed advice and interpretation of the results from a professional who knows what they are talking about and what the results mean to you and your overall health.

I know some of you may be trained health professionals but it is still good to get someone else's opinion - who is a professional - if in doubt !!!!

The second thing to do is read what you are supplying the blood for - then look up the words on the internet or Google them or if you cant go to your local library and ask them to look them up or come on the forum here and ask for some help - then read up on it and have some understanding of what they are looking for in your blood tests - you will soon see what it is that you have deviated on and how it will effect your weight loss - it is well documented what the Dr looks at in each of your blood tests.

Also if you are concerned what your doctor will say - get another opinion - because any doctor that does not like the way you are losing your weight - because its fast weight loss is silly - and you most likly need a new doctor with a few brains.

The reasons are very simple once you start to understand the program more - thats what lifestyle change does to you and in doing so will help you understand your new lifestyle .... and I can assure you its a great new life saving lifestyle to have.

Andy

My clinic will give me a copy if I ask for one, but otherwise doesn't show me. Ask your clinic, Sassy, they may give it to you. They should have contacted you if there are any problems with it.

Back again for the support. Still think the diet and the forum are the best ever, but too old to do it again. Now losing again slowly on maintenance diet. Ticker shows next intermediate goal only (5 kilos).
