Default Help Re: Prawns

Hi

I was just wondering if anyone would be able to give my a rough guess on how many banana prawns I would need for an allowence of 120gms.

I have never liked seafood but I have been hanging out for prawns, so I have just gone and got a kg of them. They are frozen and I don't want to deforst all of them.

Thanks
DC

Hi DC..I would suggest that you take out a few at a time..depending on how big they are..try 5..being frozen they are going to weigh more (I believe)..peel before weighing them..if any left over..lunch or dinner another time..hope that helps

Hi DC,
The prawns I buy are cooked and peeled and frozen. I find about 10 med is 100gm when raw, depending on the size.I would take out about 10, peel and defrost them, and then weigh them this should give you an good idea for next time. My fish allow for meal 2 has two different weight, 100 & 120 so I adjust accordingly.
Goodkuck and enjoy
Happy days

yeah totally depends on the size ... first ones I got were smaller and they were about 10 grams each .. but the ones I have at the moment are U/15 size .. whatever that means .. and they are about 15 grams each raw and peeled ... and MUCH tastier .. haha

hmm might defrost some for dinner now that I just looked at them !

Hmmm...... My post from the other day has gone

Thank you all for your help, it ended up being 8 prawns, which was ALOT considering I don't like prawns.

So I made curry prawns and it was okay, but i don't think I will be feeling like them again any time soon.

Will have to go give FIL the rest of the kg!!

Soon to be,

My program stated no pre-cooked foods - this included prawns.

Have you checked with your clinic.

thanks Connie,
I was told weights needed to be raw, but I could use cooked prawns, tinned tuna etc. I have bought prawns raw, weighted them then used this as a guide as to how many cooked ones I can have. I have crossed checked with the raw weights when cooked etc, I will double check with that though, thanks Connie

Hey DC

Just wanted to share my prawn dinner with you ... as it was awesome .. I am just mixing stuff around trying out different flavours .. one thing I have found with the program is how to cook better .. and what to use spices in and with .. haha ... yes I used to cook before but never so experimentally as now !

So tonight I did this
  • Steamed in microwave some thin sliced zuccini and squash with cauliflower .. I cut the cauli so they are real small pieces .. I let that sit till I am ready for it
  • crushed a clove of garlic and sliced some chilli and put them in the fry pan
  • added my prawns .... but they don't take much otherwise they go tough
  • added a splosh (yes that is a word now) of solo sub .. adds a nice lemon flavour
  • then add the veggies and stir into the solo and garlic and chilli and turn temp down to simmer a bit
  • then I sploshed a bit of balsamic vinegar over and stirred it in .. it absorbed it pretty much straight away
IT ROCKED !! just can't cook prawns for too long !

OK .. had to share ... it has no name .. I just made it up as I went along !!

I say give the prawns a second chance .. but then I luuuurve them !!!

Thanks Stoddy

Might give that one a go! Isn't it funny how using soft drink to cook your dinner is now a normal thing. I have had sòme really strange looks when I have had people here while cooking. haha
