Default TUNA WITH DIET DRY GINGER ALE & SPICES

Have been avoiding canned tuna for a while, I just don't enjoy it much. Read somewhere (forgot where) that to improve flavour and moisture level, quickly saute in sprite zero and curry powder then chill. But as I had the schweppes diet dry ginger on hand and ginger is often an ingredient in curries I used it instead. It definitely improved the tuna quite a lot.

Spray pan and quickly saute cumin, coriander, cardamon, garlic (or just use curry powder), deglaze with a little dry ginger ale and when bubbling along nicely and reduced add flaked tuna and sort of stir fry. Refrigerate. Serve over salad.

I will add a touch of chilli or paprika next time.

Default TUNA WITH DIET DRY GINGER ALE & SPICES

Hi bs

Tuna in brine is OK - don't forget to drain and weigh the tuna itself, don't rely on the can weight or you will be short changing yourself.

You can have a teaspoon (5gms) of low fat mayonaisse each day - mix a little mustard powder in with it and it is almost 'Salad Dressing'.

Also, tuna makes a good sloshy casserole with the usual vegetables, or mix up a bit drier and make fish patties / fish balls with it, then dry fry to crisp up the outsides.

lessfatty is lucky in that he has access to tuna steaks - fresh tuna is hard to come by in Melbourne, but any of the listed fish varieties make good 'fish parcels' when the fish portion and the veg are wrapped in foil and baked or cooked on the bbq.

Make sure you check the ingredients of the dry ginger ale. As you will have read recently not all yoghurts are compliant and not all 'diet' fizzy drinks are compliant either.

Cheers

Kristine

mmm sounds good. Might give this a go. I love tuna but must admit by friday I want to throw the can through my office window. Cant you just imagine me cracking it and doing that then it would bounce back at me and give me a black eye!!!
