What do you do when?......
Last night something, on retrospect was probably funny, but at the time nearly had me in tears leaves me with a question. What do you do if after an hour of dutifully cooking your lovely dinner in tin foil in the oven, you open it up, smell it.... mmm smells great, can't wait to eat it! Your moving your dinner from the tin foil on to your plate, and plop, you drop a good chunk of veggies on the floor!!! What do you do?? I was looking at my food on the floor, with absolutley no way to figure out how in the hell to know what to do! Should I have estimated how much was on the floor and quickly chopped up some more, or, at the time, felt completley overwhelmed and just ate what I had left? I'm estimating I was about 1 mushroom down. What do you do? |

Personally, if it was one mushroom, I'd either leave it - it's less than 5 grams, or wash it in hot water and put it back on plate (first determine how clean floor is) that's what I've done a couple of times.

Tee Hee!!
Marc, I hadn't even thought of washing it off and popping it back on the plate, and the floor, as is the rest of the house is sparkling clean... I guess I was just so mortified I couldn't think of anything other than how angry I was! |

They actually tested the 3 second rule on "whats good for you" and there was actually some truth in it. Dry food took longer to take on germs than wet food - so just be really quick and your right!

Ahh, it's the good ol theory that if something is dropped on the ground, as long as you pick it up within 3 seconds, it's as good as it was when you dropped it on the ground

That happened to me back in January and I was already in a 'mood' as all of my family were in town and all going out for lunch. I planned on cooking my lunch and taking it (eating it just before we arrived at the restaurant)..... Yep, dropped it (a lot) on the floor. I also nearly cried, then thought f*&^ it, and ate it off the floor, every last gram of it.

Re: What do you do when?......
Never could get to grips with the units. It's 3 seconds is it!
I always figured when I found the slice of pizza under the sofa after a hard weekend that it was still okay so would just eat it! I'll have to remember that 3 days is too long...... I figured if it didn't have stuff growing on it, it was okay! Oh, I haven't been sick in 50+ years either. Something about eating a peck of dirt in ones lifetime kinda stuck with me I guess!

Re: What do you do when?......
I went to boarding school. the three second rule was somewhat extended to anything up to a minute. We never got sick and the kitchens were never particularly clean!!!
pick up the food - wash it off and enjoy!!! |
