Default when enough is enough

wow i am so glad to have found this forum, i am sure from what i have read through looking around already that it is a very positive and inspiring place to be. I have been overweight most my life and am fed up with it. Its time for me to create the change that i so desperately want and guess what I CAN.
looking foward to getting to know you all, im sure it will be fun.

I have 13kgs to lose, was a bit disheartened when my consultant told me that weight loss is 5kgs a month, hmm from what i have read on here though many of you have lost more than that per month, infact there are only a few who i have seen that lose 5kg or less. You think that i am being overambitious in aiming for 10kg in 6 weeks??

Hi miss IC,

Quote:
You think that i am being overambitious in aiming for 10kg in 6 weeks??
Sorry, but yes, I think you are .... for a couple of good reasons :-

First off, have a read here :-
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=226028&postcount=3

From that, you will see that those with more to lose, lose more. With you only needing to shed 13Kgs, it is unlikely that you will lose like most others (who often have 30Kgs or more to lose). Those I've observed with a small # of Kgs (15Kg or less) to lose, tend to head more toward the "~1Kg a week" figure. So, I suspect your clinic is probably near enough to "spot on".

The second reason, is that I've noticed that those who "set themselves goals" re what to lose by when, often seem to shoot themselves in the foot - as the date draws nearer, they become more anxious, leading to stress - and stress stops the weight losses in their tracks !!

Miss, did you have a particular desire to be 10Kgs down within 6 weeks? Like, a special event or something? If you do, the best I can suggest is to just say "Que sera sera", and allow your body to do the best it can within that time-frame !! Maybe it will make 8Kg down, or 6Kg - can you live with that?

Sorry, it may not be what you wanted to hear, but I believe this Cohens way is one of "the best" - but it is going to work the way it works.... Yet you might prove me wrong go hard... and let's see what happens for you.

When did you start?

Koh

Edited later: One thing I overlooked, Miss, is that, if you have yet to start, your first week will likely be pretty good - so, in your first month, you are likely to get over that 5Kg - but on "average" loss over time, I think the clinic is about right.

So, I take it back - it IS possible for you in your first 6 weeks - just not so likely ongoing .....

Thanks for your replies, unfortunately i had to have a stint in hospital which has delayed my starting cohens, i am a bit concerned that my program may not work for me now as it is 7 weeks ago that i had my blood tests done and my program says that you need to start within 6 weeks - i cant afford to pay for another program so I just hope and pray that my blood work has not changed too much, i manage to lose 3 kg while in hospital which means i have 10kg to lose now which i am really happy about. I feel nervous and excited about starting and to answer you question koh there is no special reason for wanting to lose the weight in 6 weeks other than i am terrified that I will mess it up if i am on it too long. I have failed so many diets before as i have got so hungry after the first month that i end up crashing and eating everything in sight. I am in Alice Springs on holidays until next sunday so I will be beginning on monday week which will be 7 weeks from getting the program.

Hi Miss,

Go to New Diaries, and look at the "stickies" (they are "stuck" at the top of each page, 'cos they contain important stuff). One of the stickies talks of what you need to do when setting up a new diary.

In fact, this thread can become your diary if you wish. I can move it to the New Diaries area for you - you will still need to fill in the Diary Request (as described in the "sticky").

Or, you might want to start afresh.... Let me know,

Koh

PS re the "7 weeks" question - it's better to check that with your clinic !!

thankyou gug, I have decided not to wait til i get back home to start, I thought it would make more sense if i do - ie being settled and not staying with othr people but this is for me and so what what others think - if i start tomorrow it still means that i am starting inside the 6 weeks of having done my blood tests which means that the blood work will still be the same, just on the 6 week day exactly. I am tired of worrying about what others think and needing their approval on what i do with my life, i have always been a people pleaser and done anything to avoid conflict. Everyone i know besides my mum have been a wet blanket for me doing cohens as they insist that it is deprivational and just another diet that will leave me feeling hungry, grumpy, and then disappointed when it doesnt work and i put all the wieght back on again like other diets do. I know this is right for me though and i have been looking at others stories and while i see that many are on cohens for a 2nd or 3rd time i also see that it has been due to not finishing refeed and/or lapsing back to old habits post cohens. I am confident and have decided that it is my journey and the only person i will share it with is my mum who is really encouraging and supportive. So tomorrow is day 1.

Good for you Miss I Can - you are inthe right headspace and that is the most important part of this.

And if you stick to the program 100% you will NOT feel hungry after a few days - let alone a month! The key is sticking to it absolutely. Here is the reason why: http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7521

You keep in that headspace and you will do brilliantly - just stick to the program and let it do what it does - WORK!!

Hi

There are some times when weight will go up a little (an I mean by a few 100g not kg!!) - usually for the females around TOM!

This is probably a good thread to have a read of though as it explains what is happening if your weight loss slows for a bit:

Miss, you need to be in the right headspace and ready to commit to it.

Can I tell you - once you get through detox the hard bit is done and if you stay 100% and get into the zone, failure just won't be an option. And if you do get tempted, you have to come in here so we can talk you through it!!

To give you an idea - I am one of those (un)lucky people who likes both sweet and savoury. Hot chips have always been my downfall. Last night I went to dinner and someone (who is on a different weight loss program....) offered her chips around. Aloud I said "no thanks" Inside my instant reaction, without a second thought was "I'd rather drink arsenic". Obviously I have figured out that food can be my medicine or my poison. I have not needed any so called "willpower" on this program since detox, with the exception of good old christmas where I had to break some traditions. I have even taken up chocolate making as a hobby!!! Never before could I have even contemplated that on my previous weight loss attempts.

If we let fear of failure hold us back so many things would never have been achieved in this world.

As I was told by my wonderful friend who introduced me to Cohens..

"You can do it. You just have to want it bad enough".

Keep talking to us as you figure this through That is what we are all here for (and remember a few months/weeks/days ago, we were all - with one exception - in the same or a similar place as you!)

Hey, we all help each other through this journey - you'd be surprised what you can learn about yourself writing in someone else's diary!!

So, when is your start date now? I recall you were thinking of delaying it but decided not to because of your blood tests?

Hi MIC!

Best wishes on your journey!!

So, when do you actually start?!

I totally hear you on the fear of failure... I think a lot of people with weight issues have the same fears! I delayed my start for a long long time... but once I started and somehow had that '100% is my only option' there was no stopping me! Just remember it is a personal prescription, so if you stay 100% you will be giving your body the best chance to succeed and you will lose weight (and as fast as your own body will allow it).

Can't wait to hear how it all goes for you!

Missy
