Default How do I make the "Quotes" work?

It's a fairly common question, so thought I'd share a bit re this :-

1. What is a Quote?
This is where someone's words are highlighted within a post - like this :-
Quote:
This is a Quote
2. How do I quote someone else's words :-
a. First, select the words you want to Quote - click and hold your left button while selecting the words to be quoted
b. "Copy" the selected words (Ctrl C or "Edit/Copy")
c. Start your Post where you want to use those words
d. When you get to the place you want to use them, paste the words into your Reply (Ctrl V, or "Edit/Paste).
e. Make them into a Quote in one of two ways :-

i Select the pasted words again (or, they might still be selected after Pasting them) then Click on the Quote button above your Reply. This is the button that looks like a yellow page with "writing" on it (fourth button from the right in the row of buttons that start with Bold, Italics, then Underline - scoot along to the right from these). Doing this ADDS the tags to make a Quote.

ii or - instead of using i above, you can simply TYPE the correct tags at both ends of the "words you want to quote". These tags change the way the words are displayed. For a Quote, these are the tags (in Blue)

(quote) These are the words I want to Quote. (/quote)

See, that didn't work - and that is because I used Round brackets so you could SEE the tags (and how to type them).

If we now change the brackets to being Square ones, you will see this :-

Quote:
These are the words I want to Quote.

Up to you which way to use - some prefer typing the tags, while others like "point and click". Use whichever way suits you,

Koh

Hehe - you two (Collie and Vivo) will be unstoppable now

But wait - there's more :-

If you want to get REALLY flash, you can name the "Quoter" e.g.

and that is done simply by typing the name like this :-

(quote=Vivo) it works!!!! Oh the knowledge and power!!! (/quote)

You can also be a bit funky if you feel like it - e.g.

Oh, and one more thing for anyone using Quick Reply - you can use quotes too, but you'll have to type it all.

To get all the features (Bold, Italics, Quote buttons, Fonts, etc) you can click on "Go Advanced" and that will put you into full-blown "Post Reply" mode.

Tomorrow's lesson will be on "How do we keep those girls from busting loose now they have all this new-found knowledge !!

Ok, well waiting with baited breath Koh.........are you sure it was a good idea to let us unleash the beast?????? It's a little scary now that you think we're unstoppable.......thought we were already there........like Vivo said, Oh the knowledge and power......maybe I should go for world domination!!!!

Ok, on a more inquisitive note......didn't you say that quotes had to be done with square brackets??? Does that still apply when you quote the writer???? Or am I tying myself in a knot now and getting confused again.......maybe world domination is a bit ambitious afterall.......

Hi Collie,

World domination may still be possible for you but I guess THAT is a learned skill too.....

Yes. Where I've used Round brackets, it is only so you can see the format. Like here :-
(quote=Vivo) it works!!!! Oh the knowledge and power!!! (/quote)

Substitute the square brackets, and.....

"Voila - it works!!" (but you wouldn't be able to see how to format it).

All good?

Koh

PS One other thing I found while doing this post is this :-

The quotes WON'T work if
a) the font colours are not the same throughout the quote (I had some Blue and some black....)
b) the characters in the instruction should all be standard, or all Bold, or all Italic - a mixture doesn't work ....
c) Using "Preview Post" lets you know if has worked or not prior to clicking "Submit Post"
