Default spices?!? HELP!

Hi all! Here's a quick q.... I read in someone's diary that they had "reached their herb/spices intake" for the day.... Now I'm stressing! I have read through my manual 3 times now and can't find any reference to this. If we use natural spices like Mixed Herbs or Rosemary, is there a daily limit??? Yes I know obviously we can't have too much salt & black pepper, but is understandable! Now I know if we use fresh herbs, they count as part of our daily allowances, so we weigh them out, but now I'm worried maybe I use too much natural herbs or curry powder (yip I like it really spicy!)
ANY Help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks To all
xXx

Hey Sammy

Under 3.6 Condiments and Herbs in my plan it states "maximum one tsp collectively of all the above condiments and herbs per day". The herb groupings listed are: salt, black pepper, all dried herbs, garlic powder, ginger powder, chilli powder or dried flakes, curry or mustard powders, pure spices.

Hope this helps

Yep, one measly teaspoon!

haha.

Oh and Meg, if you check the ingredients of mixed spices and everything is an allowed herb/spice, you can have them! For example I have Mexican spice by MasterFoods and the ingredients are: Paprika, Chilli, Cumin, Oregano, Pepper, Garlic. All allowed spices.

I also use the Herbies brand Italian spice and also their curry powder.

If blended spices contain any naughties they have to include them in the ingredients list! ie: milk products, wheat, nuts... due to people's intolerance. Don't be afraid!!

Okay, so I posted yesterday, but it seems my laptop was feeling as yucky as I was and decided to do its own thing!
Thank you all for your replies!
Now I have once again realised the differences betwee Australia's Cohens manual and the SA one (which is strange because Dr Cohen is originally South African, one would THINK (or at least hope) that the SA version would be updated and rather comprehensive)... But Alas!
Here is a snapshot of the DETAILED information I was given regarding condiments:

SEE???? No mention of any sort of LIMIT or anything?!?! Sigh!
Anyway... SO now I am going to try and watch my herb/condiment intake, and see if I am still generall a slow loser... Who knows, but I am willing to give anything a try!
Perhaps Blommie or N2M will be able to comment seen as they are also from SA, but otherwise, I am simply going to set myself a 1tsp limit per day!
Regarding mixed spices, I, like Lil Doll, also simply check all the ingredients, and if all the herbs are allowed then I use the herbs / spices, so I am not going to suddenly change that, otherwise I will basically be eating rather bland food, and I ain't up for THAT one!

Thanks again all

I also wasn't aware of the limit of dry spices, but I unintentionally didn't use much. And now that I only eat soup, I only use a little celery salt and garlic powder. Sometimes I'll use fresh garlic and chopped chilli (also not in the book, but generally accepted), and I'll weigh it with my veggies.

When I first did Cohens, I tried the curry powder from Woolies, but it tasted like sticks to me. I then tried a green curry paste which was lovely (the ingredients LOOKED ok, but I was still feeling guilty), and it didn't seem to slow down my losses too much.

Never mind the picture, I'll copy and paste it here:

Other
Fat
NO oil, margarine, butter, or fat of any kind may be used while you are on the program. You may use
Limited quantities of cooking spray or olive oil spray.
Mayonnaise
One teaspoon (5ml) of low-fat mayonnaise is allowed per day.
Condiments & Herbs
You may use natural spices/herbs only.
BLACK PEPPER SALT (only limited amounts)
CURRY GARLIC
MUSTARD (powder only) CLOVES
CINNAMON
ALL HERBS (basil, rosemary, oregano, and the like)
VINEGAR (E.g. Balsamic, Apple vinegar-2 tablespoons per meal)

So yep, 1tsp a day! Seems like I misread that and by default have not been 100% Cohen...

For what it's worth, I never counted spices, salts etc - I only counted fresh herbs in with my veges.
I really don't think that I could have lost any faster - I dropped 30 in 4.5 mths
So my opinion, don't sweat the small stuff

I'm wondering if pimenton de la vera dulce ( mild Spanish paprika) is really allowed because it makes my food taste so good, it must be forbidden? lol . In any case, I re-read my plan and spanish paprika IS allowed so happy me!

I guess we just need to invest in quality spices so that just a pinch or two makes a difference!

Sammy - my programme (online version) says exactly the same as yours re quantity of spices, ie it is not specified. It also does not specify limiting cheese to 3 times per week. If there is a limit on the spices, I've definitely been overdoing it ...

Hi there Jlou - just followed your old link re: spices and curry and in it you said Clive of India is not allowed. But my clinic has said it is allowed and they had checked with the Dr. As your comment was in 2008, has it been changed on the program we get today? Can you clarify?
