Hi AJ, you're doing really well - my last scales drove me insane with their mixed readings so I bought new ones - they give me a few odd readings sometimes so I hop on 3 times in succession and average it out if I get 3 different readings.

Day 6, Week 6

Same reading on the scales as yesterday. I wasn't quite so busy yesterday, drank my water but still held most of it (or it sweated out, it was a hot day down here ). I was up so many times during the night that I was expecting a big drop today, but it hasn't happened. Hopefully, there's still a bit of yesterday's water held in there Now 11 days with the same ticker, but it's clear I shouldn't have believed that 1 kg drop back then. I was just too eager to see it fall. However, much longer at this rate and I might have to accept that I'm just one of those who bring the average monthly losses down I am moving down, just more slowly than most of you. I do, however, rejoice in your achievements and your delight as I read them. I just wish I had time to read everyone's diaries each day. I find Notify helpful, as it takes me straight to the newest entries instead of having to scroll down, but it doesn't see to work sometimes (says it's on, but I don't get notified).

Thanks, bestyears, shell, Connie, Sharlene, Wendy and Kelly (and anyone else who might be reading my diary and sending good thoughts my way) for the support. It really helps to see all the messages -- picks me up even if the scales don't bring a lot of cheer.

Bestyears, I agree with you re the daily weighing. As long as you can cope okay with the flats and occasional ups, there's no reason not to do it. I like your analogy to the share market; my goal rewards are some trading software, paid off in installments I've jumped the gun a bit and already organised it

Wendy and Kelly, mostly my scales seem consistent, then occasionally I get a reading that is way out. I may stick with them for now. I remember trying to replace a previous set of scales, and the ones I bought varied as much as the ones I already had (I took the new ones back), so I'm a bit wary of replacing in case that happens again.

AJ,

Are you ensuring that you are using your scales on a flat hard level surface? Are your batteries new and in good condition? These may account for the erratic behaviour. Also, is it one of those $20~30 special from one of the local bigbox department stores? I have to wonder about some of the made in china ones if reading the news about a lot of products from there this past year. Just ideas.

I bet you are going to look like you are on a downhill slalom or bobsled course once you do manage to break loose from the current bottleneck.

Here's another bunch to help you along.......

Day 7, Week 6
Finally, I've moved my ticker down!!! This morning I'm down 400 gms on the low point of 11 days ago. I'm now sure that was not a true reading. Getting very close now to my second goal. I thought I'd be well past it already Reading diaries, it seems that slowing down before a goal happens frequently. I knew I could feel that fairy dust working over the past couple of days My husband has been commenting on how well I'm doing. He notices particularly the 'spare tyre' that's been sitting just above my waist (no one else gets to see that). It's now looking like an inner tube with a puncture I'm noticing how much less of me there is side on.

SMS, I'll change the battery and see if that helps. The surface is flat and the scales were the most expensive I could buy at the local hardware, although still not super expensive. This morning I weighed several times, got a number of different readings, but the one I went with appeared most frequently. I'm suspecting now that my very light readings might be because I get onto the scales gingerly and they don't go up all the way, tried to ensure I wasn't doing that today. Also, I think perhaps a couple of years of having my weight on them every morning may well mean they are not as accurate and perhaps it is time to upgrade.

Thanks for dropping by, Kelly. Today I'm doing well.

Day 1, Week 7
Well, I finally seem to be moving again, albeit not very fast. Down another 200 gms today (same weight three times on the scales). I took my measurements this morning. They're a bit disappointing, particularly as my weight loss has been slow, in that they match the weight loss; no change at all for the week on the main measurements, 1.5 cm on the other measurements. On the bright side, I can see the changes so far, my clothes are loose and I'm definitely getting thinner.

I called in at the local hardware yesterday looking for new scales. He had a $16 set and a $33 set. He said he'd recently taken a $33 set home and weighed twice within a short time, and had a difference of 1 kg so he didn't recommend them. I decided not to risk the $16 set either. I'll keep looking.

Connie, I love that cartoon. I took my laptop out to my husband to show him as soon as I read it.

Thanks, Connie, kgb, Daisy, hexi, Wendy Jeannie and Kelly for the support. I might be going slower than most others at the moment, but looking back on my last two diet periods (Atkins both times), I've lost more than twice as much on Cohen's as I did on them in the same time.

We have two sets of digital scales and are getting some variation in the newer WW set. We have floor tiles in the bathroom and I am wondering whether tiles are not really flat? I have started trying on the lino in the kitchen and it seems to be a more consistent result.

Thanks, bestyears. I've ordered some new scales over the phone. Talked with the supplier, who told me that all electronic scales will vary a bit because they have pressure points underneath that measure your weight. If you don't stand in exactly the same spot, e.g, roll over a bit on your feet, place them further forward or backward you will get different readings because your weight is not distributed in the same spots on the pressure points. I ordered some scales that also measure (among other things) water because I'm interested to see how much that fluctuates for me on the days when I'm retaining it. I'll let you know how they work out. Meanwhile, I think that the scales I've got are probably quite accurate; I just need to be more careful about how I stand on them; maybe mark a foot outline on them I ordered the $50 ones from http://www.multipointtechnologies.co.../?sck=33813664, on the advice of the man I was speaking with. I'll let you know how they work out. At that price, it's not a disaster if they're a total failure I was quite impressed with the man I spoke with.

Well, it looks like you are moving forward again. Or should I say downwards!

I wouldn't worry too much about a 200g drop, if you get a 200 g every day that's 6 kg a month!

The scales you links are similar to what baloo and myself are using except for the brand. It good to see you on the road again. You really had a bottleneck and I was starting to worry a wee bit. However, you have the can do spirit so not to worried. As you said, you have already lost twice as much in the same span of time as with atkins.
