Hi Koh and ME

Thanks for dropping by.

Yes - I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease (an autoimmune disease that slowly eats away at your thyroid and leaves you hypo) over 10 years ago and the problem with it is, that you just seem to get all your thyroid levels sorted out and you think you're on track and then, BAM, it changes and you are back to square one. I know an awful lot about thyroid problems as I have done so much research over the last 10 or so years so I am almost an expert in Hashimoto's Disease.

I have been stable for about 4 years and slowly started noticing symptoms coming back. The big one was rapid weight gain and inability to lose weight when eating next to nothing.

Anyway, hoping I will start getting some reasonable losses again soon.

Hi All,

Week 1 done and dusted deviation free with a loss of 3.1kg. I was hoping for 4kg as I have previously lost in my first week before but I am still happy with 3.1kg. At least I am heading in the right direction.

So, there's a reason you don't weigh everyday.

I weighed in today at 77.9kg. I have gained 400g. Totally devastated 😩

Hi AZ

Thank you for visiting my diary. It's nice to know we have company on this never-ending journey.

You have certainly started off with great loss for your first week back. I know you're devastated at your gain when you weighed in today but hang in there, it will probably be gone by tomorrow and take some extra grammage with it Remember, your body has to get used to eating well again and it will take a little adjusting.

I look forward to sharing this well travelled road with you again and cheering you on to your goal.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Louise

Thanks Louise and Koh,

I will continue on. I am still 77.9kg this morning so haven't lost the 400g I gained a couple of days ago.

This is what has been happening to me for the last year when I have gone back on plan. I lose a little then gain and then my weight loss just grinds to a halt. It is disappointing.

My doctor has prescribed me Duromine to try and kick start things which I started last Tuesday but it doesn't appear to be helping much other than the fact that I am not hungry. I guess this time I can stick it out for longer without being hungry.

I'm going to stick with it for 4 weeks and then go back to my doctor but I suspect something else is going on with me.

Hi AZ,
I hope the Duromine helps somewhat. One other person recently who has some kind of thyroid trouble is Annagirl. Have a read of her diary as there may be snippets where she "tries stuff" that have helped:-

That is disappointing AZ. Good on you for sticking with it. Hopefully the doc can find something that will help.

Hi All,

So it is still frustratingly slow weight loss for me at the end of Week 2 deviation free.

It's 2 steps forward and one step backward. I feel like the Duromine hasn't done anything at all for me. I have attached my daily losses so you can see what is happening if you are interested. Very demoralising

On the bright side, at least I am not hungry.

I see what you mean about frustratingly slow losses despite being deviation free AZ. Do you know if it takes time for the meds to kick in? Have they already kicked in resulting in less hunger? Could you go back to your doctor and see if there's an alternative? Is your body still adjusting to being on plan again? Could next week's loss be much bigger?

Still frustrating either way.

Hi Louise,

Thanks for dropping by. The Duromine has completely wiped the hunger so definitely much easier to stay on plan.

I actually emailed me doctor today with what I am eating and my losses this time versus 2017 and 2014 to see what he has to say. I fear he will just tell me it is the middle age spread

I am going to stick with it though. 4 weeks solid with no deviations just to prove a point, if nothing else. If it is my body adjusting, it should have done it by then.

At least it is easy to stay on track with the low appetite.

How are you going? Hope you had a good loss this week.

Hi AZ,
Do you have a clinic to call on here? Or is this an old Plan? If the latter, then your clinic probably won't want to discuss things - or will they? have you tried?

Right off, something sounds wrong to me - even given you have Hashimotos. I see so many who just blossom on this Plan, no matter their past/present issues. And your path just seems a little "less than normal" - so a clinic would be first port of call.

If no joy that way, let's see what other Cohenites can suggest for you. Like, all those little "traps" that catch a few people - grated cheese being used instead of block cheese, your curry brand, your yoghurt brand - you know !!!

Let's see what can be done,

Koh

Hi Koh,

I ordered a new plan late last year and paid $850. The Brisbane Clinic has shut and I had to go through the Perth clinic. I ordered the new plan because my losses were so slow on the old one but the slow to no weight loss continued with the new plan and the clinic were unable to help me out with any advice on why. Told me to see my doctor. I didn't pay the extra money they wanted to extend the contract as I didn't think it was worth it. So, that was a really long way of saying, no, I don't have clinic support anymore.

I haven't had any curry powder and minimise my cheese intake as well. I might try cutting it out all together and see if that helps. All the old tricks, like eating lots of fish and prawns, are no longer working. I'm pretty sure there is something else going on with me medically, I just need to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks Louise, Koh and ME for the support. It actually really helps just to have someone to talk to about the frustration, even if it doesn't make the weight shift any faster

Thanks and and hope you are all having a great week!!!

I am going to work with my doctor to try and sort out what is going on.

Cool - that eliminates a few things. Before we start, AZ, even if these following don't apply to you, others reading could do with knowing them (I know you already have a lot of experience, so don't need to read some of these).

OK, what about "are you eating all meals as/when required?" Any standout "misses" there? e.g. some think if they haven't eaten by 9pm, they should miss that meal. In fact that would be the wrong thing to do, as per Asy's directions:-
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthr...771#post250771

Have you introduced any changes since getting your Plan? Started exercising? Started dancing? Had any sicknesses? Anything that can change the way your body functions....

Have you been dropping off some foods (trying to kick-start weightloss again)? Eating less in hopes of shedding weight "just a bit faster"? From what I read, THAT will likely work against you.

Any changes in stress levels? That could be from work, or family issues, or a host of other things. Again, when our mind is stressed it can affect a host of other things. Strive to be as happy and untroubled as you can be for best effect while on Cohens. And call on your clinic (if you can) to get some other ideas.

And the rest of you - what did I miss? I'm sure many of you have found other things that can take away your weightloss - some of them are so "out in left field" that they defy explanation. (See the curry powder explanation in stickies for one harmful thing that punched well above its weight in "stalling weightloss"),

Good luck,

Koh

PS Check your PM's AZ....

Hi AZ

Just curious ... was the new plan you got last year very different from the plan you had before?

Also, are you doing measurements? Are the measurements also showing the same slow trend?

Hang in there AZ. Hopefully you and your doctor can figure something out.

Thanks Koh and Louise.

I'm going to go back to basics for the next week and see how I go.

Louise - The new plan had slightly more protein and slightly less veg than my first plan. Not too much difference though.

I'll keep you posted.

Hi AZ! I feel for you with regards to the slow losses, and good on you on deciding to stick with it, 4 weeks will fly by. The most basic reward here for being on plan is that it is always better to be striving towards better health than just not doing anything.

Cheering you on,
