Day 2, Week 7
Another 200 gm this morning, so seems I'm definitely on the move again. I think it might really be 400 gm, but decided to err on the conservative side this time. I spent quite a while getting on and off the scales this morning, after my conversation with the helpful man I spoke with yesterday. Yes, it definitely does make a difference where I stand on them. I had a range of 400 gm, from same as yesterday to down 400 gm (standing about where I usually stand). I also found that they seem to 'remember' the last reading even when I stand in a different spot next time. I overcame this by resting my hand on the basin and getting a much lighter reading in between real readings. So the lesson from this is make sure you always stand in the same spot on electronic scales I didn't try a different floor surface, bestyears, might try that tomorrow. My bathroom floor has small ceramic tiles.

Thanks for the support, Connie, bestyears and SMS. Thanks for dropping by, Irene. I know exactly what you mean about not having time to get to everyone regularly.

SMS, I knew I had to start to fall again eventually. Even if I spent all day every day in bed I'd still be using more calories in a day than I'm eating at the moment. My consultant told me to expect 4 kg a month and count anything else as a bonus, so that's now my approach. With two weeks to go and on the move again I think I should be okay for at least 4 kg.

Finishing on a very positive note, I have 9.8 kg (below 95 kg) as my next goal, but today is actually very significant for me. I still think in stones and pounds, and today I've dropped below 15 stone. More significant, I couldn't get below 15 last time I dieted.

Hey AJ,

Heres a shove to get you to the 9.8 mark. You are probably already there though with the scales confusion. Mine are the same I get the same reading each time even when things are different sometimes, like after taking my clothes off, like it remembers me or something ( or it hates me LOL ) .

I am so impressed with your very centred approach AJ, you are a very inspirational Cohenite, you always look at the positives and base your attitude from that.

Hope that other 200 is gone tomorrow along with some more.

Connie

Day 3, Week 7
Well, seems I could have gone with down 400 gms yesterday, as I'm down 600 gms today on yesterday That angel dust really seems to do the trick, hexi and connie. Thank you both I've again weighed multiple times, this time using different surfaces as well. Seems as long as the scales sit solidly on the floor it doesn't matter what the floor surface is, but standing on the same place on the scales with weight evenly distributed does. So now I've past my second goal and am also past my 25% mark At this rate, I'll be finished by early July (I know, the first 25% is always the easiest). Actually, I'm hoping to be finished refeed by my son's wedding 25 October.

AJ

How fantastic for you to have those great losses this week.

It is so inspiring hearing how you cope with your battle of up and down weighins. I have not seen large losses on my scales for a few weeks now, and as much as I want it to happen I am just happy to see the little losses I have.

Keep up the great work

Well, well, well......

Seems you had a fantastic morning as well. It would almost seem we are running in parallel! Yes, standing with a difference stance or even with a different posture will deliver mixed results. as electronic scales us four measuring points so you can effect the total a little bit daily. At least you have found the major culprit and now that should also relieve a lot of the stress. I know it there occasionally as well no matter how hard we try to suppress it!

Anyway good to see you with a great loss today!

HI AJ

thanks for leaving comments on my little recipes.

Definitely an enthusiastic amateur, actually, until I started Cohen's I didn't cook that much on a regular basis, too lazy.
I've always had a huge love of cooking shows, Geoff Jantz, Nigella, Jamie, Delia, Maggie and Simon, Gordon Ramsay.
I do find though that I get hungrier watching the shows than doing any actual cooking.
I made DH some mini bruffins today, and even used the crispbread like I do in my own, cos I didn't see any point in using flour.
I also made him some mini peanut-paste and choc-chip muffins. That was my biggest challenge thus far, after all the brownies I've made
and had my hands covered in chocolate batter I found not licking the peanut paste off my finger the hardest. I knew I was going to do it
if I hadn't quickly dunked my hand in a sink of water.

In my life I've been given to pieces of advice that I've held dear when it comes to cooking.
Mum said "you're only limited by your imagination" and another person's mum said "if you can read, you can cook"

I'm quite chuffed that you're going to try some of my recipes, please make sure you use the herbs and spices. I"m pretty sure they'd be really bland without them.

Wow, you're a quarter of the way through your journey, that's great. I'm sure you'll make a lovely Mother of the Groom at the wedding in October too.

cya round the boards

Day 4, Week 7

No change this morning. That is, until my new scales arrived. On them, I'm almost 2 kg lighter than on my old scales. I'm going to have to find somewhere with a reliable set of scales and find out which ones are weighing me most accurately. I love starting up my computer and seeing my ticker on my desktop with double digit kilos lost.

Thanks for the encouragement, Jeannie, hexi, SMS, babytime and lucee. I think you're going to get ahead of me again, SMS, but I never believed otherwise. I agree with the person who said "if you can read, you can cook", babytime. I can put on a really superb dinner when I try -- all from other people's recipes. I love things that are interesting and different. It just takes time and patience, and a lot of people don't have enough of either. Do you ever eat kangaroo? I'd love a couple of interesting kangaroo recipes if you do I've been cooking it in stirfrys, but I need more flavouring.

Quick ego boost if you find out the new scales are correct. It means you were lighter than you thought when you started so have less to go to achieve the final outcome.

I'm waiting for you. I was also flat this morning....

Hey AJ

scales are funny things aren't they. Did you keep your old ones in the bathroom? Cos they may be wrong as if they are the mechanical scales, the steam can screw up the mechanism. Get your hubby to weigh on both, and if he has the same difference that you do, then alls you need to do is change your ticker by 2kg, sure it may mean you've lost less weight, but it also means you are less big than you thought you were to start with.

I have eaten kangaroo before, but not on Cohen's. (I've also eaten crocodile and emu. I really liked emu.)
I think the trick is to marinate it for a while, and then roast it in the oven, and to eat it medium.
I've got some ideas, I'll get into the test kitchen and see if they work out, and will post them this week.

have a good one

Day 5, Week 7

No change again this morning. I've added another column into my spreadsheet that calculates each day the loss from a week ago, as even on flat days it's encouraging to see the change in a week. I'm down 1.4 kg on this time last week, so that's still a good fall.

I weighed myself multiple times yesterday on both sets of scales. The difference was always the same (1.9 kg). I'll keep both and use them to ensure I'm getting accurate readings each time. At this point I'm not too concerned about which one is correct, will check readings next time I go to the clinic. As you said, SMS, if it's the new ones I'll have to adjust my starting weight, which means my journey won't be quite as long

Thanks for the encouragement, SMS, Connie, babytime, Ang and BFG. Loved your chicken schnitzel and non-potato mash, babytime. I put a bit of wilted spinach under it to add some greens Kangaroo can also be very short-cooked to keep it tender. In stirfrys I cut it into fine strips and just barely cook it. My stirfrys still need some flavour, though Because it has no fat it gets tough quickly. It's good to keep in the fridge for days I might forget to take anything out of the freezer because it keeps so long in those packs.

AJ,

Sounds like a plan to me! The week on week column idea is nice as it's a counterpoint to those bad days!

It's nice you have reached another mini-goal at 9.8kg, your first 10kg AND 25% lost goal.

Hi there Annabelle Joy!! And it truly has been a JOY to read your diary today! Lots of lovely stuff in there and fantastic to see you are now over 10kg down and you only started 11 Jan 08! As you might know i am 53 and a half and when i commented to my consultant about a woman i had met who lost 20kg in 7 weeks on cohens, her response was, how old? I said 30 years old and she said, yes, the young ones do lose it a bit quicker, but you older ones sometimes have more discipline! So, my point to you is, may take longer, but hey it is way better than Atkins, been there, done that, not much success etc!

And then your scales! My newer ones weigh me 400 grams heavier - they do the body fat% etc - so only use them for BF% and us the "old" digis for weigh ins as they are same as clinic and gym! Tuesday last week day one of show pony sprint, i was 52.5kg. Next day, first a.m. i was 48.1kg! Woohoo, got on again a few times but it was a fluke! Must have been my ballerina like balancing act, getting on so slow etc that the scales gave up when they got to 48kg!! Why do we give the damn things so much power?? It is just a number, it is not who we are etc!

Anyway, wanted to stop by and say hello, as we all know, its so busy cant always reply as much as we like etc! Gotta go pick up my doggies from the dog groomers, its called Poshy Paws, Muffin will have a blue bow and Coco a pink one and they will have them off quick smart, not doggy cool!! I will be watching you AJ even tho i dont always write!
