Default Thank you Koh

Good to have a man's perspective. Very insightful of you, keep the pearls of wisdom coming.

I know my hubby loves me whatever the scales say, but when you aren't confident within yourself (body image wise) it doesn't really matter what anyone says you just have a certain mind set of how you are and it's hard to change that overnight.

I recall even when I weighed 50kg when we got married I still thought of myself as a bit meaty, not fat but not thin either, it's hard to escape the thoughts in your head sometimes. Something to work towards.

Suzie, have you been in a situation(s) where you have had unwanted attention that you have had difficulty dealing with? Actually, almost every woman has had at some time. It may be that you have a memory that is making you afraid that it might be repeated. If you continue to have thoughts like that, whether you have had such an experience or not, you might consider getting some professional help to work through it.

Your diary is for you to put down those thoughts. No one will think you are crazy. It's part of the process of finding the new you. If you read through the diaries you will find that others have had the same sorts of thoughts as you.

Default First social lunch...

Okay, so I am a bit on edge about tomorrow. My hubby's side of the family are coming over for a 'pot luck' lunch, so this will be my first test of will power. I know I will be fine, I've already decided what I will eat so I won't be flustered tomorrow. And I know that this will be the first of many social situations I will need to deal with and be strong but I'm still a bit nervous.

I already told the outlaws weeks ago I would make a beef curry and dessert (I was going to make a chocolate ganache cake droool). So I got some heart smart diced beef for the curry and will make fruit salad for the dessert instead of the cake - just gotta stay away from the carbs and sweets I CAN do it! Lucky I haven't started cohens for real yet because I will be using a curry seasoning mix which I know is deviating. But we won't be having another family get together until X'mas so once this is over things will be back on track.

Now to change the subject, I've decided that I will only way myself weekly and that if I can get a loss of 1kg-1.5kg I will be happy with that. I think after reading some other posts where people were losing 4-5kg a week or 10kg in 3 weeks I was beginning to expect that I would lose that also and my expectations were getting to high - just setting myself up to be bummed out if I don't have a massive loss really.

So, if I can just lose my 1.5 a week I will reach my goal by December, if I lose more fantastic. But I just want to keep it real and in perspective not expect to much of myself, all I can do is stick with it and the results will happen I know. Patience...............not my best asset unfortunately but I'm workin' on it .

Well that's me for now - COME ON Sunday so I can move my darn ticker!!!

Cheers

Suzie

Hi Suzie

Good luck with the lunch tomorrow. Eating socially used to freak me out but I've discovered that most people don't even notice what i do and don't eat. I've even sat at restaurants and eaten nothing (having had my Cohen's meal beforehand) and afterwards people have asked me what i thought of the desert! It amazes me.

I'm a once a week weigher although I am going to make an exception this week because it'll be two calendar months for me on the 8th so I'm curious. I had big losses in my first 4 weeks and smaller after that. i tried to calculate when I'd be on refeed but that's been blown out of the water so I'll just take it week by week now. The losses are wonderful and I'm feeling so much better.

Great to have you on the forum.

x

Hi suzie
Good luck with that family get together. I must say I agree with Lucy lou, people dont notice what you eat. sometimes in a social situation I will make a point of getting into a conversation away from the food- noone notices your not eating and its less tempting for yourself. Make sure you relax and enjoy their company!
good luck with the weekly weighing!

The others are right, Suzie, no one notices what you eat. I go to restaurants and take mouthful sized chicken and vegetable 'nuggets' with me, which I eat off my lap, don't order anything. No one sees me eat, and I've had the same sort of questions as LouLou after the meal, even from the people sitting opposite and next to me.

Good luck for the weekend. Stay strong. Being prepared for any eventuality and knowing how you will deal with it is one of the secrets for success.

Hey Suzie,

Great going so far! .....

I too have taken my food everywhere with me and most ppl are too worried about what they are doing to see what you are doing.... and if anyone said anything to me it was usually to comment on how well I was doing sticking to the plan. The be prepared motto is definately the way to go.

Default Think I did okay...

Well we had the family lunch today and I think I did okay. Having said that though I did deviate a little with the fruit salad, I had fruit that I know I wasn't supposed to (grapes, pineapple, strawberry) just a small portion, and I do feel a little guilty for that. Sounds so weird feeling guilty about eating fruit....

I'm excusing myself just this once as I am still doing the pre cohens for a couple more weeks so figure I'm not 100% with the program yet anyway - not that I would make a habit of this. Is that a lame excuse?? oops.

I completely stayed away from the fattening desserts and other dishes, just had some lean beef from my curry. And I wasn't really tempted to be honest. When I am on the program for real I wouldn't deviate for the world - it will be so nice to have my personal diet on paper to follow. I'm just flying by the seat of my pants for now and pray I'm doing the right thing.

I am pretty happy with myself for my efforts today though. It was quite confronting actually, watching people piling copious amounts of food onto their plates then go for seconds and thirds - then a couple of desserts or 3. I thought holy crap did I use to eat like that?? I was pretty put off by it really, I mean good on them they aren't on a diet, but I was actually starting to feel sick just watching them down it like that.

Another thing I noticed was that normally after we have a social lunch I feel like a train wreck. Tired, headaches, crabby and just want to sleep - today this didn't happen and I think I know why........the carbs! My hubby fell asleep in his chair and I said to him "it's the carbs" you go up on a sugar high and then crash hard.

That's my babble for now. I'm weighing myself tomorrow, bit nervous but looking forward to it. I just have to keep telling myself if I lose 1.5kg a week I will be happy. Rome wasn't built in a day you know......ahhhhh.

Well done for today, Suzie. It doesn't take long to realise how much others eat, and how much we used to eat.

While you are pre-Cohen you don't need to bother too much about being exactly right. As you can't be Cohen perfect without your own plan, the idea is to cut out the carbs, and cut back generally on quantities, plenty of protein and eat with low calorie vegetables. If you are doing that, you are doing the right thing.

Default Thanks AJ.

That has made me feel better about my fruit salad, thanks AJ.

Well, I weighed this morning and I have lost 2.8kg in week 1 on pre cohens so I am really happy about that! I had my eyes closed standing on the scales just praying and was so pleased when I looked.

Now, just think if I didn't have that wine on Monday night I may have lost more......hmmm no more wine for me!

Doin' a dance now

Congratulations suzie, that is great! I bet you are really inspired now to get goin on the program! good on you for doing so well at the family get together. I bet noone notice what you ate - in my experience most people are more concerned about what they are doing themselves! Keep up the good work!

You know Suzie something that I have noticed about a lot of peolpe who do not have a weight problem is that they naturally seem to regulate themselves. They will just have small servings of food or limit themselves to small serving of dessert or abstain. No on challenges them, they just respect their choices. I guess this program is teaching us to do that very same thing.
I find when I am offered something I shouldnt have I just politely say no thank you and no one quesions. Or I say I am full couldnt eat another thing and noone would try and make you feel uncomfortable. No one else gives it another thought, they dont know the internal struggle we may be having - but isnt it great when you can experience these gatherings and not even be tempted!

I totally agree with you there Louise. I think it only becomes a big deal when we make it a big deal, like if someone offers us a piece of cake and we say "oooohhhhh I really shouldn't drooooool, I'm on a diet" yeah, people will see you really want it and say "it's okay one piece won't hurt, go on". But if we say "no thanks I've had enough", casually then noone would bat an eyelid.

i think ur right suzie the bigger deal we make about things in our lives, the more we draw attention to it and ourselves. We just need to get into the head space that this is what we eat, this is for us, deal with it and move on. Great effort with ur loss so far. ouise is right most people are more concerned with themselves than what others are doing. Maybe we should not fatter ourselves so much.......thinking everyone is watching us !! ha ha
I will stay tuned for ur loss 2moro, goodluc
