Thanks for this post Koh, I have been feeling very guilty about getting on the scale every morning, now I feel a lot better. So far so good, I see daily losses. I am a realist though and know that it won't be down every day and may even go up on the odd day. But knowing that I'm not being totally bad by doing this helps. xxx

How about those that DON'T make it (because they were missing the "boost"). Let me explain it this way :-

Anything new is exciting, but it can also be scarey !! So, if that scareyness can be diminished, isn't that good?

For mine, I believe that any NEW journey needs EARLY affirmation of it's success. If only to ADD to the resolve of those taking their first tentative steps....

So, for you newer people, I reckon you should jump those scales early on - here's why :-

1. Seeing REAL results (good ones) can BOOST your resolve so much !!

2. It confirms that you are doing things RIGHT !! And, if not, you get to resolve the problem without losing a MONTH before you find out that you are doing something wrong !!

I ache for those who might've given up too early by "trying to stick to the rules" - harrumph, rules are meant to be broken, especially if they restrict YOU on your journey !! Break the SCALES rule rather than the food rules though - it might be ALL you need to hang in there.

The monthly weigh-in is desired IF you are the kind of person who needs to see losses DAILY to remain "up". Daily and even weekly losses are not guaranteed - over a month, though, things remain surprisingly stable.

Despite all that, an early affirmation that "This is working" can help new chums to hold fast against their own minds (and sometimes the rantings of others who are not overly supportive).

So, new people, jump those scales early on (5 to 10 days in) - and give yourselves a boost to your resolve

Koh
I agree with you. im on day 5 and have lost 3.5kg and is definately motivated to see.

Hi all,
I've just joined up to Cohen's this week, and I'm starting my programme on Monday. I'm excited, but to be honest now that I've done it I'm also a bit scared. I think it's just nervousness over what may or may not work for me, but I'm really excited to start my new life.
This forum is really helping me, so I've now joined and hope to keep hearing lots of insprirational things!
Well done all on what you have achieved so far.

Hi

Im Emma and today is Day 11 for me and I too have been unable to resist daily weigh-ins ! Every morning I tell myself to wait a few days to see better results on the scales but just cant help myself . Been finding things hard over the weekend ( mainly due to spending too many hours at childrens birthday parties where there is endless cakes and horribly tempting goodies) and seeing my weight loss each day seems to keep me going to just get through each day.
Hoping that writing in my diary and reading all your messages will help keep me going as this is so hard ( as i expected after years of been addicted to coffee 'n cake and daily serves of ice cream).

Hi All,

I have to agree with Emma, I've been told time and time again not to weigh daily, and have had a few ups and downs (more downs than ups) but seeing the scales go down just that little bit every day is incredibly inspiring- I find myself not wanting to deviate to ensure that I see it go down again tomorrow morning.

I think that when my weight loss slows down, I will go to weekly weighing, but until then, the scales moving gives me that little bit of an extra boost when I'm surrounded by my favourite things (donuts, bread, coffee and beer).

Hi Emma, and Flutterby,

Hey, if it works for you, then it's all good. But then, some times the scales WILL go up too - nothing to do with deviation, but it "just happens", even when you are being good.

As long as you can hang tough when that occurs, then cool.

Mostly, my message was designed to confirm that "things were working" early on, without waiting for a month before "putting things right".

Of course, if you choose to weigh daily, that's fine, so long as you can handle the "ups and downs" which may/will happen. Stay light, happy, and excited while you "get well", and all will be fine,

Koh

Hi Koh,

Thanks for the wisdom, I'm definitely prepared to see them go up. I imagine that after my first month or so, weighing daily won't really be a necessity.

At the moment, where my tastebuds still long for the taste of sugary, fatty mini heart attacks and my nostrils are inundated with tantalising, chemically enhanced smells, the easiest way to avoid the 'Screw it, just one won't hurt' mentality (which has been the downfall of EVERY other diet I have tried) is to know that not only is this diet easy, but I am seeing measurable results immediately.

But, as you have said, eventually they will go up for no reason. I am totally prepared for that although I can see myself being a weekly or monthly weigh-er before that time arrives

Hi Everyone
I have just had my blood test and paid for my program, which I will hopefully get tomorrow or Thursday. I'm feeling a bit apprehensive - I've done so many diets/programs and had varying levels of success, but one thing is always the same - the weight comes back on. That was one of the things that attracted me to this program - that the weight shouldn't come back. My doctor actually suggested I check this program out and I'm really hoping that this will be the one for me (fingers crossed). I'll be honest, I'm not great at sticking to diets (especially ones with lots of restrictions) - I can cope with eating every 5 hours and drinking water - but I'm not an exercise person (at all) and I worry that not doing any exercise will slow things down for me, but I guess I'd rather that then go hard at it for 3 weeks and then lose the motivation because it all got "too difficult". Anyway, enough raving on from me. Hopefully this will be the start of a wonderful, satisfying journey with a fantastic happy ending - keep your fingers crossed for me!!
Cheers
Coo

not doing exercise is a requirement of this program
if you feel like exercising- go and lay down until the feeling passes
i assure you the only exercise i get is getting out of bed in the morning
stick to it 100% trust the program, it will work
cheers

there is a lot of info about it but basically
aerobic exercise will burn muscle not fat
heavy exercise ( weighlifting) will increase hunger- you are more likely to a/ deviate and b/ gain weight
Dr C has not built exercise into the program as you do not have enough caloric intake to deal with extra exercise. If you exercise you will disturb your hormonal balance, in particular your hgh and insulin balance will be disturbed and weight loss will be disrupted.
on a personal note ( non moderator) i know that people say exercise makes you feel good- due to endorphin production. heres the rub- endorphins are produced by the body as a natural painkiller- if what you are doing causes this effect shouldnt you stop and, if you need to get this effect what is different from when you were useing food to the same end
cheers

I have been on Cohens now for 7 days, was naughty and checked my weight today, i have lost 2.5kg, im happy with this and it made me feel like i was doing the right thing - not deviating or weighing myself at all for the last week (apart from maybe not drinking enough water).

Im going to hold off weighing for the next three weeks if i can.

Come on Nessie! You can do it!!

Make sure you drink plenty of water, it will help! I promise! And also, use up ALL of your allowances- like crackers/fruit/even your soft drinks... it really does help... then you get into the zone and it's easy peasy!

Best wishes for your journey! And you should think of starting a diary- it's heaps of fun! And people will cheer you on and give you encouragement left right and centre!

That's great Nessie It really does get easier after the first few days.

Most people do get headaches... it's just your body detoxing from the sugar and whatnot in your system. It passes... and remember you can have pain killers to help get you through the detox stage. It usually lasts for about 3 days.

Good luck,

xMissy

Hi Nessie, firstly welcome to the Forum, and you've got a headache - great news - it's working already - your body is getting those toxins out!! Take some pain killers, plenty of water and as much rest as you need. It will pass I promise............

And when it does you will feel good and your programme will become second nature - please don't look at it as what you can't have anymore but what you can have..... your health, increased confidence, increased self-esteem and lots of other good things.

Ask your questions, vent your frustrations, get the support and encouragement you need right here, we are all on your journey with you! And be nice to yourself what you are doing is hard at times but so worthwhile.
