Re: After Cohens
yiou can't have what you want, not every day, not unless you want to end up back where you were - in my case no thanks! Your last day of refeed is your amount and type of food, and your maintentance guidelines give you some strategies to deal with having the occassion treat. I find protein stops the hunger through the day and helps me to use my veg and carbs (when I have them). Quote:
Just my two cents worth.

After cohens- can you eat normal deli sliced meat
HI every one
Just wondering i always make my chicken salads with proper chicken fillets now but i am wondering after finishing refeed do you all get sliced deli meat for lunches. It will be cheaper but just wondering if it is okay and still good protein. I will still get other but thought easier for lunches having sliced meats. Annie |

Re: After cohens- can you eat normal deli sliced meat
I reckon yes, BUT:
see it like re-feed: try it out in small serve, weight next day, do it again, weight next day, and if you put on weight, cut it out. Try again a few weeks later in a similar fashion. Your body will tell you if it likes it. Like my consultant found out that purchased muffins make her put on weight, home made ones don't. Or another guy I know said, as long as he sticks to yogurt in the morning and the 5 hour rule re proteins, he can eat nearly whatever he wants. watch your body, be vigilant, and experiment. Don't introduce more than one thing a day (or really for 2 days) and see what you body does. If no change, introduce the next thing you'd like to have etc. Katrin |

Re: After cohens- can you eat normal deli sliced meat
Hi anniem
You say it will be ‘cheaper’ but gram for gram that’s not so. A chicken fillet costs about what - $10 or $12 per kilo raw ($1 - $1.50 for our size serving) Ham costs about $25 per kilo, and if you are going to eat 100 – 120 grams of ham with your salad I would suggest that you will find that it is quite fattening. Other deli ‘meats’ are processed, meaning not all whole meat, but include cereals, a percentage of fat, and preservatives. Strasbourg sausage is not exactly quality food (yummy though it may be) and are you really going to eat 120 grams of Strasbourg or ‘turkey meat’ or liverwurst? If you go back to sandwiches, look at how much protein there is in a ‘ham and cheese’ sandwich – not much! Which means that you are then essentially eating bread with flavouring, not a sustaining meal and one which will trigger insulin, resulting in fat deposits. It may be a nuisance to be preparing salads, and may be a bit boring to think of what you could be eating. Nothing wrong with the occasional sandwich or pie, just not every day. Anyway, how much does an egg salad cost, or a tuna salad (tuna is usually about $1 - $1.50 per tin). There really is nothing much cheaper or tastier than that. If you really must, put it in a paper bag and pretend you bought it from the lunch shop. I take my lunch in a take away container (mainly because if I forget the container somewhere it doesn’t matter), nobody ever asks what I’m eating, and if push comes to shove and I don’t eat it, then there is not much wastage. And as kagiesen has suggested, try new foods carefully. I found that one curry pie per week was OK, but when I forgot to take lunch for a few days in a row I put on one kilo in a week, and the only change was those darned pies! Cheers Kristine |

Everyone that has done refeed - what is your typical menu now
Hi every one
Just wondering every one that has finished cohens and done refeed and that has kept the weight off can you let me know what is your typical day/weeks menu. Just so we can get some idea of how similar it is to what we eat now and how many treats or other things you do have. Thank you Annie |

Re: Everyone that has done refeed - what is your typical menu now
I feel it's a bit too soon to say what my "typical" day's menu is but I do basically follow the maintenece guidelines. I often have a glass of wine with dinner, have 4 squares of dark chocolate, with a cup of herbal tea, after dinner most nights. I either have yoghurt for breakfast (fruit yoghurt) or a 2 egg omelette, made with spinach, tomato & mushroom & grated Mozzarella or I might just fry the eggs, tomato & mushroom(olive oil spray) & eat it with Saladas(never toast-it's messy but who cares)). I never have carb's for breakfast. I have decided not to have milk at all because I now really dislike it. I eat bread rarely-sometimes take a sandwich bush-walking as it's very convenient & filling. I also have a dessert once a week after bush-walking when we go to a local cafe. Usually it's cheesecake. The cakes I find too sweet & rich. The walk is very strenuous(justification?) Cohen's do give you great guidelines for keeping the weight off. I think I will always have to watch what I eat, especially the carb's. When I have eaten bread the next day the scales go up so I don't need to be reminded to cut down. I actually don't like it much anymore. Occasionally it's the best of a bad lot of options when you're out. I never eat fried food as the thought makes me nearly gag.
Basically I eat the basic Cohen's with rice added, wine, dark chocolate, occasional bread, potato only when eating out. I don't ever feel I'm missing out on anything because I'm only eating the things I love. We eat stir-fries, curries, lots of fresh vegies, lean meat, fish, occasional lasagne, fresh fruit, yoghurt. I just don't eat junk, including artificial additives. I thought it was a great opportunity to change my "diet" altogether & also to get fit. I absolutely love bush-walking. Hope that's not too much info, cheers, Cate

Re: Cereal
I heard it causes you to want carbs then all day long. So maybe if you have your protien then it don't at all or as bad later in the day.
