Thumbs down Re: Easier weight gain after Cohens??

Hi I'm back after a long hiatus. I completed refeed last year. Everything was fine until a couple of months ago when too many celebrations in the family made me forget Cohens maintenance guidelines and am ashamed to say , I hv gained 20kgs nw. What do I do ??? Go bk on my original programme ? Or get a new one ??
Feeling totally dejected and lost

Hi Sangi,

I wondered how you were going.... Sounds like you have going pretty darned well ... until !!!!

Seems others strike the occasional "until", so you are certainly not alone. Go have a read of some Maintenance Diaries, and even some Personal Diaries as we have several old friends back with us.

Get a Diary going once more, join in, and have some fun as you get back down again.

Re "What to do..." - it seems me that different people have different thoughts. I'll leave it to them to post you a reply with "What is working for them". I would think "back on Plan" is quite a valid option, since you have real weight to lose, and not just a couple of Kgs of "water weight".

Good luck, Sangi - and don't be a stranger

Koh

Hi Sangi, I've had 2 programs, and I'm using my 2008 (latest one). when I contacted the clinic in the past to get back on the program and if i need a new one, I was told try it for 10 days, and if you lose about 3-4kg or so, then it will work. I found the problem was having confidence that the old one would work! but if you look at from the "if it's not working, at least i've done the detox and I'm on the right track until i get a new one" (that is, if you do decide to get a new program) you'll be okay. Just keep in mind that it won't be easy - the first time round for me it was so easy, but it's been harder the following times. having said that, you can get back in the zone - often you need to work on your thinking, which for me at least is the problem.
all the best!

I used my old program it worked once my old head let it work. I had a few false starts.

Hi All....been a while since I"ve been on the Forum...mainly...yes, you've guessed it because I've gained weight and feeling miserable. I am totally down about it tonight and so glad I came accross this thread to see it is not just me going through this. I'm finding the more I obsess over it the worse my eating habits are getting. I've eaten like a complete pig over the last couple of weeks and have gained a whopping 4kg...purely by pigging out on Christmas goodies, morning teas etc. I am busy reading my original Cohen's guidelines again (Started my programme last September, finished it with a 32kg loss in February and now sitting on a massive 7.5kg over lowest weight). I am going to 'tackle' my original programme for 10 days to see if I can get rid of a few kg's before Christmas. I'm only doing it for 10 days as the rules state that we don't have to do refeed again unless we are on original plan for longer than 10 days.

I have found that if I go back on the original plan I can easily loose 2 - 3 kg's in a week...but oooooooh dear... it is sooooooooooooo hard to get back into action with so little food.

Will keep an eye out for this thread and will keep you all posted.

Cheers

Hi Kokko,

Seems to me like you've caught it before it gets TOO out-of-hand, so good for you.

As a maintainer, you have several tools in your toolbox - not just Plan....

Why not check this out :-
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6408

Now, that thread was initially written for those who SUDDENLY gained weight (i.e. water weight, and not true fat) but the thread got some seriously good input re the whole "maintenance" side of things from many contributors.

Have a read and see if using early/mid Refeed amounts might be better for you to cruise back to where you want to be without being hungry. See, if you only had one tool in your toolbox, and it was a hammer, then you'd see every problem as a NAIL. But you have several - Plan, Refeed, Reset, cut desserts, exercise, etc.

No such choices on Plan - but as a maintainer, they are all there for the taking (and using ). And maintenance is all about "trying stuff" to see what works best for YOU !!!

Let us know how you go - did you ever start up a Maintenance Diary? (PS - I forgot to mention a Maintenance Diary as another "tool" - and many on here use theirs to very good effect.... )

Hi Everyone!

Sorry for being MIA for quite a while. I have been very busy with my new job (not exactly new now after nearly 1yr +++) plus lots of family issues and personal issues.

With regards to the topic, yes, I do find it that it is so much easier to gain weight after cohen. my body gets so sensitive to any carbohydrates that it will instantly cause weight gain.

I am ashamed to confess that I have gained back most of the weight that I lost. It is mainly due to lack of determination to resist temptation as well as stress management issue to use food as a solution.

It has been a long journey since I started my new job and the stress in work plus family was something that I never thought it will get to me. In addition, I has a little relationship thing going on which further complicate my daily emotional ups/downs.

I just did my annual healthscreen yesterday. My health has been good but the doctor has once again highlighted that I need to lose some weight. I have decided to go back to my old plan for a week or so and see how the results are.

Hi Koh...was hoping to get some inspiration from you again !! I've read the link and yes, very helpful. I reckon I am yo-yo-ing a bit. I tend to go back on original plan for a day or two and by day 3 I am starving and give up, so then whatever I put in my mouth I reckon converts into FAT ! Sooo, I will be going back on plan for 2 days, then I will be going on refeed quantities, say start with day 5 for a day or two, then day 8 - 10 for a couple of days, then day 14 etc... Just to get my body back into the rythm of eating Cohens friendly food.

Fornight - I suggest you read the suggested thread by Koh...there is a section on stress. Hope you can also get back into the swing of things and get back on track! Good luck.

Hi Koh and NGU,
Thanks for the insight and encouragement. NGU as per your observation, I'm going back on my original plan , from tomorrow. If I manage to lose 3-4 kgs in 10 days, I shall continue with it. Otherwise I will hv to go fr a new plan, hopefully I don't hv to go down that path.
It had been "all" or "no" for me. Once I start on carbs, I can't seem to stop. So the second time around, it is going to be " zero" carbs for me .
