I don't exactly have an answer as to WHY I am doing this a second time round as it was all in my control and I bascially blew it and put it all back on plus some =( I started binging out on bad food again, going out drinking with friends etc etc just all the bad habbits that I have left behind when I started Cohen's crept back into my life once again. I have always had a struggle with my weight and am slowly learning that if you binge out after doing so well the outcome of putting weight back on is what happens (slow learner I know haha)

So here I am again... going well so far I havn't felt like im missing out so much this time so I believe my habbits are slowly being curved into the good ones! Last time I was a stay at home mum with my new born boy which I had the temptation of food being at my hands when I was bored at home while bubs was sleeping etc. Im now working part-time and finding that just bringing my lunch with me and no having anything else at my fingertips alot easier =)

Are there many of you from CHCH New Zealand? Be quiet cool to come across a buddie with about the same amounts as myself to lose =)

Short answer, Christmas Day. I figured it was just one day so it wouldn't hurt. That was 2 years ago and i am now 5kgs heavier than my cohens starting weight (and I'd got to within 5kgs of goal too).I don't think I can try again as I have liver problems and it states that this is one of the exemption categories. I've tried so many times but can't get through one day.

I am enjoying reading this thread, thanks for starting it is interesting reading why others are back on the 2nd time round.

For me it is like a couple of others have said, i felt deprived by the time I finished and thought that now I had gained my goal I could eat what I want and would be able to keep control of it. I did not obviously and that is why I am back. I lost 39kgs the first time around with a coupld of planned deviations during that round (i.e I was booked on a cruise before signing up and so went off plan during the cruise and then planned of going off for christmas) took me a little over 6 months because of the deviations. I think the deviations probably messed with my head because when i went back on being 100% deviation free I lost the weight I had gained very quickly so thought I would maintain control.

I would gain a few kgs and really did not want to go on plan again and deprive myself again that convinced myself I could do it without going on plan, I actually would loose a little bit but go back to where I was and that gave me a security blanket as well thinking I am maintaining and lossing a little without committing to much. ha ha what I fool I was.

Then I started having problems at work and I also had a 21 year old that had to go through 3 months worth of chemo and doctors appointments etc that I really did not worry about myself, I finally started thinking about myself again and had gained 29 or the 39kgs I had lost. I knew then it was time to take control and so here I am. Still have some dark patches but fairly well got my head in the right place. hoping I will be better at maintaining this round

Wendy

sorry and in answer to your question yes it did go back on quickly, but I don't think it was particularly quicker than when it went back on after doing weight watchers

I'm back on Cohen's for attempt #58. Started in Sep2009 at 125k, deviated xmas day at 98 or 92k (can't remember) .. then didn't quite get back on the bandwagon. Now back at 120k and hate it. Started Cohen's again (using old menu) about 5days ago and feeling much better for it. Will stay on it this time as a guy at work is at similar starting point so we are motivating each other. Wish me luck!
I'll get my diary back up too!

Well guys I'm back on for the 2nd time around as well. I started last year, went ok for about 4 weeks and became ill with an infection in a cracked tooth. Because of this I couldn't maintain the plan as I was on medication and just couldn't eat properly. I managed to stay at the weight I had gotten down to, I had only lost about 8 kg's, but I had lost all motivation to keep going. It all started to fall apart soon after as one of my children were injured in an accident and required surgery and a lot of care for about 4 months, I am an emotional/stress eater so I started back on the old bad habits. After my son recovered I started full time study at University, so combined with sitting all day in front of the computer and really bad food habits I gained weight + more. I reached my highest weight ever of 82.2kg's and at 153cm tall I am very overweight. I had a serious health scare myself where it was thought that I had a brain tumour, since that scare and reaching the ripe old age of 40 I decided that enough was enough. I needed to take control of my life and address all of my bad habits as I felt that my health was at stake and I had a clear picture of what my life was going to be like if I kept going with the lifestyle that I had comfortably became used to. I started the program again on the 9.08.12 at a starting weight of 82.2kg and am on day 13 today. This time my motivation is higher and I have stayed on track 100%. Today I weigh 77.9kg (on my doctors scale) as I needed to be weighed for medication purposes. I have lost a total of 4.30kg's in 13 days. I am using my old program from before as I just can't afford to purchase a new program, it seems to be working well at the moment and I am hoping that it will continue working through my journey. I have approximately 27 kg's to go, so fingers crossed that all goes well. I just thought that I would share my story with you.

srl72, you sound precently similar to me, I'm 154 cm, and my top weight was 81 so know where you're coming from. This is my first time on Cohens, but I was just a bit freaked out by all the second time rounders, so just wanted to know what the cause was for most. Thanks for sharing.
Have you started a diary? Would love to follow it if you do and see your progress. I started Cohens on 78.6, and last weigh in was 72.3 (I'm on Week 3). If you are interested, my diary is "riccadonna's diary", feel free to pop by and say hi!

Hi Ricca, I don't think that there are any statistics but I think 100% of the second time arounders are peeps that didn't follow the maintenance guidelines.I think due to our make ups, it is difficult some times. I haven't bought a new size wardrobe in 3 years, (at times by thin clothes have gotten pretty tight) If people don't follow the maintenance plan and have blowouts/binges/eat processed non coheny stuff for a few days and don't go on reset or plan for the same amount of days + 2 to 3 days depending on the amount of bad food they have eaten, the weight comes back on, then many spiral and keep eating until they are second time rounders. I don't think that there is any higher return rate to this diet than to any other.

Hi All,

Tanks for sharing your stories, I'm really glad to see that I'm not the only one that hasn't stuck to my guidelines. Only in the sense that it makes me feel a little less alone in the weight gain.

My reasons for putting the weight back on are all mirrored here, not following the maintenance guidelines, feeling deprived from both food and social interactions, using food and alcohol as entertainment and emotional eating. Adding to that, just throwing caution to the wind after my wedding!

Wishing you all the best on your journey back down the ticker!

Hi there

I lost 31 kg on Cohen s and finished the re feed in December 2007. I managed to maintain my weight and keep it off for 4 years and 2 months til February when I got sick with a massive flu/pneumonia thingy . I lost 3 kg in 10 days so I was little under my Cohen's weight. Then I got better and piled on about 8 kg. So I decided to bite the bullet, so to speak , order a new plan and get it off before it went to 10 kg to 15kg to 20 kg before too long.

I have been on my new program for 20 days and have lost 4.5 kg...cheering !! This is the only way I could think of to stop the creep back of weight that has been the pattern of many numerous and varied attempts to lose weight since I was overweight from the age of 12.

So that is why I came back.]

Cate

Firstly, Im not sure if I am posting this right - it's my first time. I'm just wondering if each of you that are trying the program for the second, third time etc have had to pay the fee again? Last June I lost 12 kgs which got me almost to goal but I never continued on to refeed. I figure I could just use my program again to lose the weight but then I am stuffed when I get to goal right as I don't have my refeed program. I simply can't afford the $750 again but doesn't the entire success of this program depend on the refeed part of the program? I don't want to go through the pain to get to goal and then not know what to eat to maintain it. What would you all suggest? Is there enough info on the forum to get me through refeed/maintenance? Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi Scarlett

I am on my 3rd attempt. Second attempt I bought a new program, still didnt do refeed. This time Im using my 2nd program. When I get near refeed I will contact my clinic and they will give me an eating guidelines plan. Your clinic may do the same. I dont attend the clinic as Im not doing blood tests but I do keep in contact with her.

Hope this helps, Bron

I initially lost 35kgs - My uncle died of cancer, I had been looking after him before he died. My car got stolen, my job was made unbearable and I walked out and couldn't find anything else. These are not excuses, this was just what happened.

I ate back 29kgs. It was my comfort, my friend. I wanted to numb myself to all that pain so I ate myself numb.

I hear all of you and feel a bit of myself in there as well.

I know exactly why I'm doing this the second time....like most of you said, its because of not following maintenance guidelines.
Then I ask myslef why didn't I do it...it's just too convenient not to. Easy to buy food wen you're really hungry instead of cooking....ordering in etc, etc....

Also, I am an emotional eater and I ate whenever I was stressed, upset with someone, when things didn't go my way, when it rained and spoiled my plans, boredom, feeling sorry for myself...you name it. Basically whatever happened, I ate.
The only consolation is that I put on 10kg instead of the 20 on my first try, which in itself is a miracle. I believe that the first time around sought of 'fixed' my body and I kept imagining how hard my body must have worked to keep the weight gain at 10kg....So, I owe it to myself to get fit again, especially since I just celebrated my 40th.
Definitely need to wrap my head around the fact that food is not a fix!

The good thing there sasha, is that the 10kg of new fat will probably melt away fairly quickly, and well done for jumping back on program so early too! It's a funny thing that in maintenance we seem to think the rules don't exist, while on plan, most of us happily stick to the plan....changing our views that food is an energy source instead of a friend, comfort, safe haven, protector....well, that's hard!
