Re: Dennyhorse - galloping to a leaner me.
Yeah your so right about gluten - most of us are intolerant to gluten but keep eating them cause we crave them - it's a vicious circle We just need to go cold turkey (like we do on the program) then viola - we don't "need" them any more!! I'll keep my eye out for that book - Sweet Poison did get a bit ho-hum. Another interesting read is a book by a guy named Rob Faigan - its can be a bit heavy but he talks about exactly what your natropath said - that our bodies just aren't designed to eat gluten. We are essentially hunters and gatherers - we never stayed in one place long enough to mill wheat into flour. When we did settle and start to farm that's when we started to gain weight. There is little to no evidence of fat cavemen!!! I'm hoping once I'm in maintenance to try a bit of Paleo/Clean Eating with in the maint program - I think there is a lot to be said for it!!! Anyway - I weighed in at my centre yesterday- 76.9 on their scales - 76.2 this morning on mine!!! Yay go me!! I celebrated by going to and getting my eyebrows waxed. I'm sure my brows where channelling Brooke Shield's. Mind you I've had a few eyebrow disasters in my life including losing 1/2 my left brow in the states, and having a threading girl thin them to the point of non existence.... It's all good now - they are back under control!!! So I'm aiming for 6kg in the next 4 weeks - I did 8kg in my first 4 weeks and I reckon that my body will slow down a bit now. BUT positive thinking and telling my fat to bugger off might help as well!!!! Cheers T |

Re: Dennyhorse - galloping to a leaner me.
Well done on the loss, huzzah! I'm really interested in Paleo too. Cohen's really is clean eating, but with a few more restrictions, isn't it? I really like eating caveman style, actually, it just feels right for me and my body. But damn these carbs, vicious cycle indeed. Hmmmm
Hey, my 'brows were the same. I had to grow them out after I also had about 0.5cm taken from the MIDDLE part of my right brow. My 3 year old could have done a better job, it was so terrible I had to have a blunt fringe cut (which was quite different for me and a bit fun). So right now, mine are channeling two very angry caterpillars facing off. Must do something about that... Skinny days x

Re: Dennyhorse - galloping to a leaner me.
Hey Denny and Foxy - I am totally leaning towards paleo eating for maintenance - seems very close to Cohens, so it makes sense to me, and I love meat. I think there are a few other paleo fans on here too.
Ha, and I have eyebrow woes too! Currently growing them back in towards my nose, as I had been plucking them too far for the last ten years - they are slowly coming back in, but are not the most attractive at the moment - think it might take another 6 months or so for them to recover. Gem Squash - I have never managed to find it! Search the recipe threads for "gem squash" and you should find something you can use it for. |

Hey Denny!
Yep I am jumping on the paleo bandwagon come maintenance!! I have always wanted to try gem squash but never managed to find any. Just remember to weigh after cooking... haha. That's literally all I know! hahah

Re: Dennyhorse - galloping to a leaner me.
Hey that's cool that there's a few of us Paleo ppl out there - we will be able to exchange a few reciepes later!! I think it is very similar to Cohen's and quite easy to work into life!!
Good luck with your brows McB - its so hard not to pluck or wax them isnt it!! I'm lucky that mine grew back quite quickly but it did teach me a lesson. From now on I'm only going to one of the Brow Bar places in Myer (they also have a shop in Covent Garden London with a really cute gay guy that does awesome brows but really I cant justify flying to London to get my brows done!!!) I had to ask my consultant what Gem Squash was cause I'd never heard of it before - much less seen it!! But I went to an Asian grocer yesterday to stock up on Free Range goog's and some more Swiss Brown srooms, and saw some Gem Squash there... My consultant told to boil them and weigh them cooked (ta for the reminder LD!!) but I didnt pay attention to how long cause I didn't think I would ever see them for sale!! I wonder what they taste like - I dont want to cook them and then they taste like crap!! They remind me of the Pig Melons that grow wild in my paddock sometimes!! |

Re: Dennyhorse - galloping to a leaner me.
I've heard amazing things about the Brow Bar, I should try it, they need a serious reshaping.
Paleo is the diet that also uses a lot of coconut milk/oil/cream, yeah? If so, I'm all over it, I frigging love all things coconut.

Re: Dennyhorse - galloping to a leaner me.
Yes it was the Benefit Browbar at Myer - they were wonderful ladies there. I also bought some waxy stuff to fill in the gaps on my brows and some super dooper mascara that makes my lashes look like falsies! Best part is that even though the mascara is not waterproof it stays on when I sweat!! So cool!!
I'm in Perth LD - I need to figure out why my city etc is not displayed in my profile!! Yes - I so want to Squash to taste like pumpkin but I'm worried it will taste like shite!! ATM the squash on a plate looking pretty in my kitchen!!! So I had a good weekend food wise - just stuck to the plan. I took Caz's advice and made Zuchini Fritters for breaky both mornings!! YUM!!! I added a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg to a bit and that one tasted like a pancake. I reckon if you had a sweet tooth you could make up syrup with sprite or some of the sugar replacement tabs.. For lunch today I blitzed my chicken with some fresh basil, coriander and parsley from my vege allowance - added some garlic, ginger, smoky paprika and then fried it. I ate it with lettuce and I reckon it tasted a bit like Sany Choy Bow. Def need to make that again. I haven't stepped on the scales since Wednesday BUT I had to go shopping for a pair of shorts to wear around our property as my current pair are too big... handy for when your busting to go to the loo as I could just pull them down over my hips - but really not a good look. Anyway I found a cheapy pair a cotton on in size 12!! Holy crap - and they look super!! Too good really to bum around the property and mow lawns etc in but at $15 who cares!!! Yay to smaller sizes!!! I hope every one had a great weekend! |

Re: Dennyhorse - galloping to a leaner me.
Awesome work Denny! Go the new shorts! I have a great pair of shorts that fit me in August, but I had to wear them with a belt and the waistband all bunched together when I wore them in the garden yesterday (I am still looking for a similar pair in a smaller size as they look so awesome - too good for gardening really).
Oooh, I have zuchinni fritter often for breakfast (is totally my fave) and I had never thought of adding cinnamon or nutmeg to it like you would to french toast (mmmmm french toast), but you could totally do that I bet! Will give that a go next time for a sweet breakfast (I had it this morning, but just with a little salt and cracked pepper). |

Re: Dennyhorse - galloping to a leaner me.
Hey guys - add a bit of nutmeg too.. and if your clever a syrup of stevia or sprite would go down a treat. Baked apple and or mango too Caz would be super - I think you have to not tell yourself it's Zuchini.... Mind you Zuchini doesn't have much flavour so it can be swayed either way.
I gave in and stood on the scales yesterday. I was feeling fat - like a great big hefferlump! Its funny how over a couple of days you can go from feeling lean to feeling fat, and its to TOM... I reckon my body feels slim when it has a good loss and then gets used to that feeling and so feels fat.... is that weird?? So - according to my scales I've lost 10kg!! Yay go me!! In celebration of my loss I lashed out and bought an Airfryer!! After reading all the yummy reciepes that LD and McB have been making I decided to treat myself. I bought it home and tried it out cooking my lunch- YUM. I had chicken (titty lol @ McB) that I coated in garlic, chilli and ginger powder and some zuch and some lettuce... I cant believe how juicy and yummy the chicken was!! I should have left the zuch in longer but I was so hungry that I couldn't wait!! Then I did and apple with cinnamon, nutmeg and sprite zero - OMG so yummy. Now I'm as full as a goog and reckon I need to spend a couple of hours digesting that feast on the couch watching GOT's...... The weather is a bit crappy outside so surely the horses don't want to be worked???? LOL I'm off to a quiz night dinner tonight at a restaurant down the road (Valley View Foxy!). My friend is organising it and its a buffet dinner with a beef roast as one of the dishes - so I'm not going to BYO I'm going to try and have a Cohens meal socialising with my friends. Hence my yummy lunch - I've had my treat for today so now I only need to eat to keep functioning!!!! I also have a big weekend with our State Champs - I didn't enter as the weather can be way to hot this time of year here - but I'm working there stewarding. So I'm all organised to take my packed lunch etc!! Looking forward to it!! Anyway - have a super weekend every body!!! |

Re: Dennyhorse - galloping to a leaner me.
Well done on the big 10 Denny! That must feel so good. I reckon your theory is right about how your body adapts to that fat feeling. I know when I drop, I am feeling smaller and slimmer, then a few days later I feel fat again. That happened last week so I was really surprised that the scales had dropped considerably because I felt so blobby.
Haha, I haven't been to VV for ages. We must know a mutual person, though Perth and especially the horse world is pretty small so I wouldn't be surprised! Have a great night out, enjoy, you deserve it!

Omg the cinnamon nutmeg sweet pancake version of the zucchini hashbrown is delicious! I added a powdered sweetener to the mix before i put it in the pan also, so it was nice and sweet. Totally a Cohen substitute for sweet French toast....specially if you add some stewed or baked fruit!
Thanks for the suggestion! Congrats on the big 10, and have an awesome Cohens weekend! |
