Default Re: Vitamins and Minerals

Just to add to my last post - i started taking multi vitamins, minerals and olive leaf extract - all good stuff - but at week 10 I have stopped to see if it changes as far as me and weight loss. I can defiantly say the colour of my urine has changed and is not as yellow as it was - I have never been into supplements for a few concerns - such as these few and lots more here -

Are they what they say they are ?

In an affluent country such as Australia where our vegetables quality, quantity availability and low cost - is second to none -do we need them or not ?

I am not sick and the quality of good food on Cohen's should cover everything ?

The human race got by without any supplements, a lot less medication and medical knowledge for a few million years - why after 80 years do we need them more so or is it just slick and conceiving and mind conditioning marketing !!!!

Who checks the quality of the products we buy - especially overseas - do they put the ones that fall on the floor in the bottle as well !!!!

Would not each persons body require just a little more or less depending on height weight sex and genetic make-up - does one pill suite all over the age of 5 years 12 years and 80 years of age.

and the list goes on ...................... and on .........and on.

happy popping and don't forget the poll only goes for 7 days so vote early and often !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend who is a dietician had a look at the plan and said "Serioulsy I would add a calcium tablet, you are not getting enough" other than that she thought it was an excellent weight loss plan..

I must have good bones or something......I don't take extra calcium but according to my blood test it is at a real good level. On the high side of good. I was concerned about that since we don't get to drink milk and the aging process.

Hi Everyone,

I've never taken extra vitamin and mineral supplements (except when I was pregnant) and I fully agree with Andy.

Since starting Cohens I take the minimum vitamins necessary for the program - 1 multi vitamin a day (extended release they say)and 2 calcium and magnesium tablets a day (1/2 dose in regards to whats recommended on the label). I make sure I take them in the morning because if I take them after midday, I find I cant sleep at night.

What I have been finding is that my long hair is thicker, shinier and more luxurious than ever and my finger nails have never been as strong as they are at the moment (no need for acrylics anymore). I always used to have really weak soft nails but now my nails are actually strong enough to open a can of drink with. Hubby says its all the extra calcium Im getting.

Oh and my skin is clearer than ever - but Id say thats the combination of really good beneficial food and the water Im drinking.

Thats my experience anyway.

Nat

That's great to hear that from a dietician, I mean, WE know it's good, but sometimes dieticians think otherwise.

Don't the multivitamins have both magnesium and calcium in them?, mine do and the less pills I pop the better. I take 2 in the morning (they also have glocosimine added) and 1 fish oil seems to be working a treat on my skin

I hear that zinc can help the skin if we have alot of weight to loose.

Not sure if anyone knows more about that.

Cheers

Default Which Multi Do You Take?

I need to buy some more multivitamins as I am almost out of mine. I was taking the pluravit 50+ as this is what my clinic recommended, but it looks like they have been discontinued . My programme states that the multi one chooses must contain calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc and chromium, but it must not have any more than 5mg of B6.

Most of the multies I have looked at contain no less than 50mg of B6 and they all seem to be adding things like grapeseed oils and berry extracts to them which I would assume are a definite no no.

What multivitamins does everyone else take. Is there one that is "Cohens approved" so to speak?

Thanks
Kylie xx

Hi Kylie,

I take a brand by the name of Fusion health it is a Multi vitamin & advanced mineral, also Flaxseed oil capsules.
It contains everything i need.
I just bought mine from the chemist.
I was prepared to buy the ones that Cohens sells, but after speking to my clinic she told me just to go to the chemist or local supermarket.
They are so much cheaper.

I hope this helps

Cherie

Just a quick note on this, this is what my clinic told me .................Note: all of the blackmores multivitamins have a blue label now.

Alternatively if you are unable to get the vitamins above you could use Blackmores Blue Label Multi Vitamin and Mineral and Natures Own Calcium and Magnesium. You can get both from Coles and Woolworths. We suggest these because they have no substances that will interfere with your body chemistry while on the Program.

I am assuming it is the sustained release based on what is here and not the womens vitality multi, which is what my hubby bought for me and I have been taking all week, may be why my loss is slow ...... have I been deviating unknowingly???

damn it!

Well the clinic just got back to me and the short answer is yes. Sharon assured me it isn't a big issue but it would be if I continue taking them so I will change them today. Sharon also stated that they will change their paperwork to avoid confusion in the future, so that's a good thing.

Will be interesting to see if anything changes.

Hi ConnieK
I also had both the named in my hand and wondered which one to buy. The Sustained Release is for women and men opposed to the womens multi - which looked better to me as I recall. Anyhows - I ended up buying the sustained release and tis fine I think. I also take one Omega 3 and a few Nails, Hair and Skin (Blackmores) too. Also my hubby has been contracted to build the new Blackmores in Syd. He's had a lot to do with the quality control - process engineering stuff?? He reckons they're a good company with really high standards.

regards
Kylie

The issue with B6 as was explained to me is that some people can get hungry with higher amounts.. if you find you dont get hungry then it's more than OK to take them. They are harder to find, the ones with lower B6.

how funny.

cohens was originally a fertility diet, correct?

well when i was pregnant for the second time i had severe mornign sickness. gp's suggested i take maxolon for nausea control but advised me that this can have some nasty side effects for bub.

so i rang the aboriginal birthing centre in alice and they advised me to take B6 which i did and the nausea was gone in a few hours.

not sure why i am adding this, but it is interesting.

Herron Multi only has 4mg of B6. I was looing at the Blackmore sustain release but put them down again as it had more than 5mg of B6.
