It has to do with making sure the protein is digested and on it's way out of your stomach before your next hit....well, that's what the clinic told me. It's to prevent protein mixing in any way.

Everyone is different Saf, and some people indeed do require a new program, but if your old one works for you then that's great.

We all have different needs and requirements for our bodies to respond to this program optimally, so it's a bit of horses for courses for us all.

Yes Collie, I agree everyone is different. However each time Ive re used my program (which is quite a few times) its worked for me so I guess Im a lucky one! Thank you Ciors, I also got told that at the clinic however I just wondered if it greatly affects weight loss...ive always waited 5 hrs or more, however it was just a thought.

Hi Saf,

and welcome.

I would think it is more to do with "staying in the zone" - which, of course, indirectly affects weight loss too. When people feel good, they stress less, and the weight peels off. Start stressing, and all bets are off...

Given, too, that some people find out in Refeed that mixing proteins causes them problems, the safe way to travel is to NOT mix them while on Plan. hence the 5 hour rule.

Talking Re: New members - welcome !!

Hi there everyone from a sunny South Africa,
I guess that everyone starts thinking about New Year resolutions this time of the year. I am no different but instead of thinking about a new year resolution I want to focus on a new me and doing something for myself. I stopped smoking about 2 years ago as a birthday present to myself. Since then I have gained some weight. I followed a couple of diet plans and went to gym 6 days a week. I managed to loose some weight but never gotten close to my goal. My sister in law followed this program and had GREAT success! My best friend started on the program but had huge health challenges and she had to stop. Reading all the post on the forum just closed the deal for me. We have one clinic in Cape Town which I will be visiting to start my program. As they say what do I have to loose??? Only FAT!! Looking forward to hounding you all with my questions and learning from all of you.

Welcome blommie. You'll love the support here. You should start a diary in the new diaries section. Great for holding you accountable and keeping on track plus we can all support you that way!!!
Good luck at the clinic!!

Hi Bloomie, good that you've already had someone you know do the program for inspiration and support too. If you can quit smoking, you can do this too (I quit 15 odd years ago lol) start a diary so we can all support you on your journey

Hi Blommie,

Welcome aboard. We have a number of your fellow countryfolk here. Do take a look (down the bottom of the Home Page) for the forum that is specifically for South Africans to talk together - in afrikaans if desired.....

Hi all,
Just signed up a week back and still waiting for my eating plan. I am so excited but nervous to begin my program! I have about 40lbs to lose and I do hope I can lose it AND keep my ideal weight once reached. You all have been very inspiring and I am learning so much just by going through the different threads!

Hi Southpaw, welcome to the forum. It is indeed an incredible source of information. Start a diary in the new diary section, read some of the sticky's for new members, they'll tell you how to get a ticker etc etc. just to assist you with the detox phase, I'd recommend increasing your water intake to about 3L and cutting back on the obvious carb, bread rice, pasta etc. good luck...let us know when you start!

Red face Re: New members - welcome !!

Good day,

I'm new and excited to be here. I'm from South Africa/Pretoria.

I joined Cohen in Sept and my 6 months is about to end in Feb. I'm so nervous. I was 92.9kg when I joined and I'm losing very slow. I'm now 80kg's and my goal is 65kg.

Tips of how to lose quick. I need to get to the re-feed program.

Cherish

Yeaa antoher SA person. I believe that Not2Much is also from PTA. Hang in there and like Ciors said follow the program to the T. I had a BIG aaahhhha moment yesterday when I met my consultant. She said to me that I need to treat the food on the program as medicine. So think about it. When we have flue we stick tot he meds prescribe to us by the DR 100% and what happens then? We start to feel better. I fully therefore believe that its the same with this program. If we stick to our meds (foods) as prescribed by Dr Cohen we will start to feel better = weight loss

Wink Re: New members - welcome !!

I am about to go for my blood tests and start the program after paying this week. I am MOST excited about this. What I like is the very positive feel through out this forum.
I tried another diet recently, protein only and holy crap I never stuck to a diet like I did with this other "un-named" diet. I gained 5, yes FIVE kilos.
Just what I needed, more weight!
Then I thought I would re-visit this Cohens as I was knocked back years ago. Due to gastric banding I had undergone. I have now been told since that was not correct. So realistically, I could have been all said n done with weight!
I had lost 70 kilos initially, however medication, stressful lifestyle and some extenuating circumstances had caused me to gain back 20kg.
So had spent some wasted time with the self loathing, putting myself down, bla bla bla just generally being an idiot about what had gone on. Some I could help, some I had no control over. Not shifting blame, at the end of the day, its about my own approach to life and it was poor for a couple of years.
Now, I feel pumped, excited, ready for positive change, I have come out of those dark times and refuse to live life feeling second best to myself.
Its a Kimmie (thats me ) kinda year I believe, I have allot going on, daughters wedding, major work projects and some more major travelling to do.
I am now single, and ready to focus on me. This is my promise to myself:
* I will focus on my health and keep it on track
* I will step forward into Cohens and stick to it without fail and I mean it!
* I will not date for one year whilst concentrating on ME!
* I have and will continue to enlist those that are willing to support me during this journey of self discovery and good health, I have awesome people about me!
*I will be kind to myself
*I will discontinue self loathing and putting myself down and learn to accept a compliment
*I will be a participant in life and all its wonders

ALL this I promise to myself, it is on my fridge.
One step at a time

Thankyou for listening

Kim

hello and welcome Kim, I think it's amazing that you only gained back 20 of your 70! many people gain more than they initially lost! You sound ready and raring to go, and that's a great thing for this way of eating. It can be challenging in some ways, and being mentally prepared to stick to it is a real bonus! However, if you have the mentality of 'just eat what, when and how I'm told' it's actually easy lol.

feel free to start a diary in the 'new diary' section....there's tonnes of information there to help get you started, and to familiarise yourself with what's coming up. You will find the forum a positive, helpful place, where we will all be ready to cheer you on, or offer hugs and support when needed...

A great tip that was offered to me before I started was to start drinking water, aiming for 3L a day, which I broke up into 1L before lunch, 1L before dinner, 1L before 9pm. Be prepared to become best friends with your loo! It will drive you nuts, especailly getting up during the night, but it gets better.

Be prepared for success, if you stick to the plan, it works...you will shrink before your eyes!
