Default Anyone gain on refeed?

Hi pals,

I can't seem to recall seeing this in a thread. I understand that many of you in fact have lost a little more weight on your refeed programs and have ended up slightly lighter then your refeed start weight - which is great.

I am just curious if any of you out there had any problems with gaining weight on refeed? And if so, how much? To be honest I'm just a little freaked out by how much food you seem to get as the refeed program goes on. My consultant says you HAVE to eat everything everyday. But I am sure I have read in several diaries that you can, for example, introduce bread but not have it everyday they tell you to in refeed.

So yes just wondering if any of you have gained with the extra refeed amounts?

Thanks everyone.

Hi hayley

relax!!

I am almost finished refeed and haven't gained. In fact I am a couple of kilos under my refeed beginning weight. If you do gain a kilo then you just go back two days.

Actually i have loved refeed and so has my body and is my testimony to the fact that one can eat more and not gain weight. It just depends on what you eat and what you eat it in combination with. Refeed is a wonderful way to learn more about your body. For instance I found out I have to be careful when I eat blueberries - was fine with or near protein food - not on an empty stomach.

Hayley - many of us have this belief that more food equals more weight - less food - less weight. I have learnt that for me it is not necessarily true. I can eat quite substantial meals of fresh, unprocessed food and not gain weight. I intend to be careful of processed foods.

Have fun on refeed - and see it as an opportunity to relearn great food habits.

Shanara

Thanks for the insight Shanara. I guess I just thought it might happen to me because I have PCOS and never know how my body will react - I have major issues with trusting in my body. I was talking to my consultant today and she said she gained a couple of kgs on refeed. I am a couple of kgs under my lowest goal calculated by doctor Cohen so I hope this wont have any bearing either.

Hi Connie,

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am wondering also if the fact that i'm already below my target will have an effect? And also I am STILL not experiencing ANY refeed symptoms!! The consultant at my clinic said that when you order your refeed you have until your next blood test to start it. Is this what others have been told? I read somewhere we get about 6 weeks after ordering before have to begin it?!

Thanks.

I never said I didn't believe her. I just thought I could recall reading somewhere that we were allowed to leave it longer before we have to begin.

Hi darling Hopeful,

I havent actually even ordered it yet as I still have no refeed symptoms and do not know if my body is ready? The last thing I want to do is start and have it not be properly effective, especially after how far i've come! With no symptoms i'm not sure i've reached 'equilibrium.' If I am ready though, then I must be part of the minority who don't have any clear-cut signs. I havent been able to talk to my consultant lately either as she has been away opening the second clinic in NZ.

Hi Hayley,

According to some, you should not go above nor below the target weight given by Dr Cohen to start your refeed. If you are already below the targeted weight, shouldn't then you start your refeed with or without the symptoms? If you don't get any signs, then you should be jumping in joy because not everyone gets to the end smoothly.

Hi Hayley,

I think you should start refeed. For whatever reason, you're not feeling hungry, but that doesn't mean that you should go below the goal weight range set for you. It's been calculated with your health in mind and I would trust it.

My "ready for refeed symptoms" were a little ambiguous and could have been explained by other factors, but in the end, I've put my trust in Dr Cohen and begun refeed within the weight range he has said is best for me.

Don't wait until you're hungry - it may not happen, and then theoretically you'll be on the programme forever!

Flamie - yes in a way I am pleased that I am not plagued by symptoms, but then again when you have none its hard to know if your 'there yet.'

Yeti - Your right and I will trust in the program. Its more the lack of trust I have in my own body thats my problem! Ooh and congrats on beginning refeed and still losing!

After hearing from all you good people I have decided I am going to ring my consultant on Monday for a chat and order my refeed.

I am really happy with my weight at the moment (for the first time in how long?!) and am not going to go into refeed with the 'expectation' to lose any more. If I am the same weight when finished - then I will very pleased indeed. I hope I enjoy it as much as many of you have.

Thanks everyone xx

Hayley.

I am glad you have decided to start refeed. I think you should have your refeed ordered asap as you are going very low. Your BMI is 20.3 and that is getting close to underweight. Some on here who have held off too long have had problems maintaining this and have set themselves on a cycle of learning a bit more about their body.

Is it possible for you to contact your clinic today to have refeed ordered? You still have control over when you start but I think you need to have to available asap.

Hi Hayley,

I wanted to share these words from Asy with others who might not have caught the post before - here:-

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showpos...7&postcount=11

Asy is famous for her "two out of three" comments - and this one is worthy of consideration. It applies particularly to those who are "unsure when to start" as they drop lower (goal and below) - as you are Hayley.

MOST times, that "eat a horse hunger" makes the decision - but, what if it doesn't come?

THERE's the answer - from the Goddess herself

Shanara - Ohh no! I hope I don't have any problems maintaining! That thought did cross my mind as I have noticed there are a few who problems with bingeing etc. I really hope I don't go through anything like this as I feel like I was in such despair before Cohen's. It was never a matter of me not being able to stick to a certain way or eating or diet plan - it was actually the fact that I would eat sensibly and work out a lot and NOTHING would happen.....oh actually, I tell a lie - I would GAIN weight. I'm sure the other women with PCOS know where i'm coming from. I am aware of my BMI but recently I have read that it is a BMI under 18 that is underweight? It may be considered different in different countries but previously, I too thought it was anything under 20. Like I said, my intention to go a couple lower was really only on the condition that I wasnt ravenous and just to have more room for fluctuation on refeed and maintenance. Thanks for your concern and I am definately going to order it Monday.

Koh - I do recall reading that post from Asy at an earlier date but thank you for bringing it to my attention once more. On the upside of things, I am hoping it may be a blessing in disguise that I am not a very hungry person. I hope this will perhaps work to my advantage in maintenance and that I will not experience the bingeing and cravings for sugars that some others have experienced from time to time.

xx

Default Stopping refeed halfway through

Right so I am about to begin refeed after chatting to my consultant tomorrow.

After reading carefully through my program I noticed that it said if you gain 1kg from refeed start weight, wether it be overnight or a little each day, you have to repeat the previous 2 days and that if you actually have to go back and repeat the same 2 days twice, that you stop refeed at that point as that is the only amount of food your body will handle before beginning to gain weight.

Because I am almost 2kg below the lower end of my goal this concerns me a little. Have any of you actually not been able to complete your refeeds for this reason? Because I am a little lower then goal, does this rule apply to me? For example, if I gained a couple of kgs I would be in the middle of my goal range. Sorry if this is confusing!!

Thanks.

xx

Don't be concerned, Hayley - what happens next is that your body will determine where it wants to be.

Quote:

I can't recall any - but I'll leave it to them to confirm/deny - and that includes those that went "lower than goal" - there have been a few that did this.

The rules are there to protect you from your thoughts Let your body tell you what it needs, and listen to it. And yeah, if you did gain that much, twice, it gives you a good idea of the amount of food that is sufficient for YOU.

Good luck with your refeed Hayley

Thank you Koh,

Your very right (as per usual). I sometimes have a bad habbit of assuming the worst. Hopefully I will make it right through my refeed like all the others. I would hate to have to stop halfway and only be able to eat minimal food to maintain my weight. I STILL have to talk to my consultant before starting though but she never phoned me back today and I really need to get started already!

I'm such an over-analyser!

Hi Hayley,
I don't think you should worry - I haven't read about anyone putting on a kilo twice during refeed...

I started refeed at 65.5, then lost a kilo over the course of 10 days, so dropped down to 64.5, then put on a kilo so I was back to my start weight of 65.5 with two days left of refeed. I decided to drop the bread and carbs for a day, and I've lost 500 grams. With one day to go, I'm at 65kg, 500 grams less than when I started. I was worried I'd have to go back two days for a reset, but I lost it just by cutting the bread, which I'll do again today. Easy to do!

I'd wish you good luck, but I don't think you'll need it. you'll be fine!!
