Just wanted to throw in another vote for "Weight Loss for Food Lovers" I'm really enjoying it at the moment, although I think it's better for people on maintenance rather than people still doing Cohens!

I managed to borrow the Beck Diet Solution from the local library. If it is good for me, I will buy it for myself.

Hi!

I went nuts on books while I was away just recently.

I bought 6 books... beck diet solution, 101 things to do before you diet (oops a bit late, but it is still relevant), secrets of a former fat girl, shrink yourself and 2 others that I can't remember the names of... hehe. Oooh yeah, one was 'nice girls finish fat'.

I have read the intros of them all, and I am excited to read each and every one of them... On the plane trip home I was reading secrets of a former fat girl... which at the beginning was a bit irrelevant as it was all about exercise... but now I am up to the more 'head' intense stuff and it is very interesting. It's funny how alone we feel in our thoughts, then suddenly you read something that spells out exactly how you have been feeling and you think 'gosh, maybe I am normal after all'. haha. Same goes for this forum too, I suppose. hehe.

That's all. I will update more on the books when I get home.

Yay, good, Divine...

The former fat girl one focuses more on exercise, especially at the beginning and the writer is a bit against dieting and esp restrictive diets, but don't let that faze you, I am up to the sabotage parts, and it's a nice read.

I can't wait to be a former fat girl!!

we should be aware that all of our behaviour is caused by our beleif system. That is, no one can make you do say think or fell anything you dont want to. Your beleif system is rather well embedded of course due to the long history of societal influence as well as your upbrining.
This does not absolve you of responsibility for your behaviours, it just explains it.
DO YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS AND, THUS, YOUR BEHAVIOURS.

I bought Secrets of a Former Fat Girl based on this. Arrived yesterday, finished it this morning.

A very good read.

As you say, it startes with exercise, but the whole point of the exercise was to get her feeling positive and good about herself. This diet being so great/fast does that for us.

I also found the bits about thinking "It's Not an Option" helpful. All those times people offer you things you can't have, tell yourself "INO".

And appreciating that we're NOT like other people, so we do have to be careful, and that being a "Former Fat Girl" is aboiut how you feel about yourself as much as what you weigh.

Recommended.

I also bought "Confessions of a Reformed Dieter" which I'm reading next.

Laura, I have recently read the Gabriel Method. I am using his visualisation CD to motivate myself, and I also have a copy of the Paul McKenna CD's I can make you thin. Again the visualisation are the bits that help me. With the Paul McKenna ones there is a visualisation that helps you get over foods that are your true weakness. My weakness is chocolate cake, and I complete the visualisation, now everytime I think about chocolate cake I feel sick because I think of steak and kidney pei or lamb fry. Yuck. This is what I am using to motivate myself. Thee are other concepts in these books that do not promote the Choens way of life so I am ignore that information.

Hi anyone reading this! I just purchased a new book on Monday - just published May 2010 and quoted in a magazine on Monday as "Oprah Winfrey has quit dieting after reading WOMEN, FOOD AND GOD BY GENEEN ROTH - An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything . Oprah said I have come across something so profound that now everybody has an opportunity to win!"

So i bought it at Big W Australia only $17, in my local small town in S.A. I cant put it down, it is actually profound, about loving our bodies now, about being more fully present with who we really are and has lots of practical ideas on how to transform our lives in every area not just food etc.

I believe its very compatible with the Cohens program as it deals with getting to our ideal weights and staying there and how to manage that so diets then become a thing of the past instead of losing and gaining the same 10kg or more for 10, 20, 30, 50 years. Its about making friends with the right foods in the right amounts rathen than compulsive eating to numb the too muchness of life.

It covers how for many of us, we think once we lose the weight then we will be happy and that for many (like me), when i got to my size 6, my 21 BMI, i was still unhappy with me. I am now happier at size 10, BMI 24.8 and with Geneen Roth's help, i am willing to join Oprah and ditch all diets for ever. I will update this account after 4 weeks and see how its working for me LOL! Anyway, i recommend it for men and women even for the weight loss part of Cohens, its full of magic and amazing stuff! I am reading a book called Finally Thin by Kim Benson. Pretty good and motivating as the book speaks of the story that we more or less have before starting a diet.

Hey Pandora

I picked this book up over the weekend - Geneen Roths 'Women, Food and God' wow she hits the nail on the head time and time again....

Not that she even really talks about god - she only talks about how anxiety and not 'trusting ourselves' with food is about letting go...and uncovering the emotions and healing that lie deep within....

Good stuff....I loved the book and applying the techniques as we speak...

Much more pain and sorrow to release....

Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you all know of a great new book I've just finished and will be using in my journey in the weeks ahead. It's called 'HYPNODIET' and it's by Susan Hepburn. You may have heard it - it's the woman Lilly Allen credits for dropping three dress sizes.

Anyway, she basically advocates healthy eating and heaps of water (which we do on Cohens anyway) but I have REALLY enjoyed her focus on the mind games/emotional side of overeating. She states there is a time in our life when we switched from eating like a baby (knowing to stop eating when we're full) to when we began to eat for comfort... and we need to delete that point in our memory and think of food as 'JUST FOOD!".

I know this may sound far-fetched for some, but basically you listen to her 'hypnosis cd' every day while you want to lose weight and it helps to visualise and focus on the slim person we want to be. I was sceptical but in the last 3 days I have woken up feeling great - i don't feel huge hunger pains and I am super keen to exercise - I even have an appointment to join the gym this arvo! It has just totally made me feel and see things in a positive light.

I found it on ebay for $20 and it was free shipping to australia

I've loved it so thought I'd share in case it helps any of you guys

Hi all - have just finished reading this book Retrain Your Brain, Reshape Your Body and have to say I found it awesome. I think this will be the thing for me in terms of moving forward and living a comfortable co-existence with food. The book focuses very much on what's happening in your brain where food is concerned as well as easy, practical strategies for getting on top of the demon. So much of it struck a chord and made me go aha - that's me and what I do and now, why I do it. They say sometimes understanding is halfway there. It did confirm one thing for me - my pleasure arc is all about food and my poor little brain just needs to be totally re-educated! There is a recommended diet at the back of the book which is Mediterranean based but the diet element was really a very small component of a worthy read.
