Re: Panda's Diary
Wow thanks everyone for your enthusiasm.
MUM: Love the jumping beans!! Yes I've actually lost enough to show on the ticker now - that little runner is going to be able to take on the bumps and hills in the sand a lot more easily now she's a bit lighter! Thanks Giddyupgirl nice to meet you! Louise41 - amazing that I felt I had stalled - got a shock when I weighed myself. There's just one thing I'm wondering if it helps. Anyone seen that "JON" guy who advertises all over the internet, he has a six-pack and holds up his old pants which are about three times wider than him? I remember reading his book and he suggested drinking a lot of water at night and not eating anything after an early dinner. As I'm a bit slack on the water in the morning, I've started drinking about 1.5l of my 3l at night. Who knows? But I think I'll keep doing it. He also had this CD you were supposed to listen to to "retrain" your brain about food, but I never heard it as I always fell asleep! RORA - I agree with you - awesome weight loss. I can't tell you how many programs I've tried and got virtually n othing after four weeks! Thanks. C-Jaye - I've joined the water challenge. Thanks for putting me onto that. |

Re: Panda's Diary
Panda even when you fall asleep during those hypnosis tapes the message still gets to your brain, even if you dont know what it is. I will be interested to hear how your new water strategy goes - I hope you arent up all night at the toilet!

Re: Panda's Diary
Can't believe already done 6 weeks of Cohens.... although in some ways feel like I've been on it forever. Got over the blimps last week. Lost 11cms yesterday in my weekly measure. I guess last week was one of those weight loss weeks with no measurement loss. Maybe this week has been the opposite - size loss but maybe no weight loss. I'll wait till week 8 for my weigh in.
I'm becoming a bit of a chewing gum addict though - I'm going to have to nip that one quickly! |

Re: Panda's Diary
Yes - I think you are right Panda - I find this pattern as well: weightloss week, then size-shrinking week, the weightloss week and so on. I think it makes perfect sense - the body gets some weight out of itself and then takes its time to reajust its shape...
It's just that we all measure our success mostly by the weight coming off part I'm trying to learn and appreciate both processes! You are doing great! Have a beautiful weekend! |

Re: Panda's Diary
Thanks Kenga - you have a good weight loss weekend too! I can't wait to be over the half way mark and trying to get down into the 80's. I think I've been able to lose the first lot quite quickly because I put it all on last year due to an injury. Once I get back down to 90's it will be more of a struggle because that's weight that has been there for a while.
Kenga, I notice you have very well thought out goals! How did you set these? |

Thanks LGS> I've been on plans where you don't see much difference quickly - and this is MUCH better. You are getting to half way mark - brilliant, you must be excited about that.

Re: Panda's Diary
I've been adding a bit of onion to my eggs and stir fries this week - really adds some flavour - it only takes a tiny little bit.
Feels like ages away till the next weigh in - 11 days to go! |

Re: Panda's Diary
Good morning Panda, I am in awe of you waiting for your monthly weigh in, good on you.I am a nutter about weighing and because I am doing that I only see small changes instead of getting the thrill of waiting and seeing a big change.
I am away for a few days so I will "see" you on Thursday. Have a great week. |

Re: Panda's Diary
Good morning Panda - I hope you are enjoying the glorious sunny morning.
My goals - well, first I wanted to get to under 70 hence the 69.5 goal, then I know that it will thrill me to bits to be under 65 - that's why 63.5, the other two are close together because I think that it will take me a while to go from one to the other but I want to acknowledge my success, and the last two - my measure for real success is maintaining the weight long term - I've lost many kgs many times, I know I can do the losing, it's the maintainng I'm not so sure about. You take care & see you soon! |

Kenga, thanks - good luck and I might set some myself. It really helps when you can see that you are making progress doesn't it. It's a glorious Sydney day. Think we'll head off with the bikes, kids, picnic, dog, crackers and sprite zero and make the best of it! Have fun x

Re: Panda's Diary
Have fun Mum - "see you" Tuesday. I have stepped on the scales a couple of times when I think it's not working and I'm a bit bluesy! Usually reinforces that all OK. BUT I've found from a long history of trying to control my weight that weighing all the time plays games with my brain. Something like this "oooooh, I'm down much more than I expected/should be, so I can have an extra bit of thiss....." And then what happens?
OR "oh no, it isn't working, I may as well give up and drink the whole bottle of wine...." and the thoughts that come from that. I think my brain is my worst enemy in weight control. For that reason, I'm happy to leave the managing to Cohens and just follow instructions. I measure like a nut though - hard sometimes to leave it till Friday, but at least it is a change from weighing! One thing I realise though is that in this 8 months or however long this takes to get to refeed and maintainance. I have to change a few habits in relation to weight. It HAS to fall into the background and not be a main focus. I have to do everything to keep the insulin balanced as the program does so that I don't have sudden carb cravings for no reason. And if I find that happening, I have to cut back immediately to stop it. Even now, I'm finding that I have little spells where I need something and drink sprite zero or chew gum like a mad woman - and that does trigger a need for more, just like sugar. Got to stop that. I realise that it kicks in when I haven't had my vitamins or chromium or water. So presumably it is within my power to keep it under control. WEll, great to get that off my chest - onwards to a lovely day. |

Re: Panda's Diary
Hey Panda
That sounds exactly like me the other day. the feeling I had which I pin-pointed was that I felt as though I was missing out on something. I was at the shop and the lady infront of me was very skinny, had a serve of hot chips and gravy and some fried chicken. If she can eat that, surely I can too. Now in the past I would have not been tempted, but because I am on Cohens I felt the "urge". So i bought a serve too!!!!!! Then I paid for them walked outside and chucked in the bin. My reasoning???? I'm not going to eat well all week, then have my hard work go down the drain. It felt really good - apart from the weird stares of others for throwing food away. |

Re: Panda's Diary
That's funny LGS and soooooo good! How strong you are. But yes, must have looked a bit odd to everyone around.
I've worked out something else which your hot chips incident made me think of - each week we were spending more on takeaway - now I'm cooking almost every night for the family. AND I stopped off for coffees outside, ate and bought lunch on the run, drank a couple of glasses of wine a few nights a week etc etc. When I add it all up - I reckon I'm saving about $150 a week! Seriously. So I've worked out that first five weeks was repaying the Cohens fee - now from week 6 I'm going to keep a mental tally! I reckon if this takes 8 months I'll be over $4000 ahead!!! |

Re: Panda's Diary
YAY Panda, great work on the chips, I had someone just about beg me to have a hot chip one lunchtime (oh go on, go on, go on, just one chip) so i took one and threw it away too, only to get "what a waste of a chip"!!!!!! My answer "what a waste of a week" surprisingly no more offers of things that I don't have in my lunchbag......

Re: Panda's Diary
"I have little spells where I need something and drink sprite zero or chew gum like a mad woman - and that does trigger a need for more, just like sugar."
Hi Panda - my understanding is that our bodies react the same way to artificial sweeteners as they do to normal sugar - a little bit does trigger the desire for more. I have soft drinks very, very rarely but gum every day - more for the chewing sensation than the sweet taste, I think. Why don't you try to have a piece of sweet apple when you get the next little spell? Yes, you are right - the best time to work on our habits and how to change them is during Cohen's. I see it in a way as managing a chronic desease - it's never going to go away, it will be part of my life forever but it does not have to be the FOCUS of my life and if I'm capable of managing it correctly it will be OK in a long run. Well done for the takeaway episode and thoughts! Take care! |

Re: Panda's Diary
Hi C-Jaye - it was lets get started with the chips! Credit where credit is due. LGS did really well. Hope I don't get into that situation, I might not be so strong.......
Kenga, interesting point on the sweetener - I didn't realise that. How scary. I think I have to go to chewing gum chewers anonymous and give it away! I will keep some apple on hand. Also water I guess would curb the craving. I'm also not wild on soft drinks because they aren't healthy. Also had a weird experience on coke zero. I was only having one or two glasses a day and really got the jitters. Very strange as I am a fairly strong coffee drinker, but this really upset my blood sugar. Thanks for the tip and the support. |
