Doing well...I would think it is the bread... My consultant told me only 'crap' bread allowed wholemeal, white not seeded but either way bread is definately an evil (well I think it is)! Reason being to figure out if the body responds badly to 'normal' breads we generally eat. Are you weighing the bread? When did you have it? Mornings aren't good...but I would keep to the fruit and cut the bread for a couple of days.

I think the anxiety would have been about the periodontal appointment, Vee. It'll take a long time to cement the habits of not eating when you're feeling down, but you're doing so well! You've come too far to turn back and give in to those old demons now. Kick them in the shin!
Try a few days with crispbread and see how you go. It might just be a natural fluctuation in your weight, though, or caused by the anxiety you're feeling. Stay strong and keep smiling!

I am with Mette............stress is not your friend and having someone rummaging around in your mouth is never nice. Skip the bread for just a little while and see what happens. I suspect bread is the devil's own food. So I guess chocolate chip hot cross buns are out . Did Hexi mean that you are only supposed to eat crap bread?? or that only crap bread gives you the bloats??? I got confused. Take care of that skinny butt of yours Jo

The consultant said eat the 'crap' bread as then we know when we are in a situation with say a sandwich platter (common bread) then we will know how we react...

Vee, you're doing awesome! I do have a question (again)... You said you're all eating Burgen bread, yes? Now, I went to check online the ingridients and there are only 2 kinds (soya and wholegrain with cranberries) - are we even allowed either one of them? They probably are selling some just wholegrain or white? And - I got an interesting answer from my consulant regarding fruits. I wanna know why there are so many different rules from Australia to USA diet. (please, if this bothers anyone, let me know, I dont wanna be intruding here, I am just trying to clarify and find the sense in this...) Bread is a machine slice - somewhere between 30 and 35 g would be just fine. We always encourage people to split fruit and crackers throughout the day. Having too many crackers will trigger too much insulin and Dr Cohen says this will cause hunger and slower weight loss. We have checked with Dr Cohen, you may have 2 fruit at a time - but, it is best to split the fruit during the day because doing so will mean you are spreading your snacks more evenly. By doing this, you will be less likely to deviate from your program because you still have snacks to eat if you feel hungry. Perhaps the clinics in Australia were finding that either a specific client or that too many clients ate all their fruit in one go, ie: made one fruit salad and then ate it all say with yogurt in the morning, the clients then ended up getting hungry through the day, leading to deviations because they had not planned ahead leaving any fruit snacks for later. Hence in some circumstances, to help a client or clients, it would be better to take a suggestion and make it a rule. People are more likely to obey hard rules than kind but wise suggestions. So that kind of makes sense, doesnt it? Now - how when I checked BUrgen bread - one slice must have around 50 g, is that correct? On my last refeed I was having really nice bread I could buy in Europe...here in STates, everything seems crap bread or too healthy. Nothing simple. I dont wanna bake my own - too tempting. |

Day 7
Starting weight: 65.1kg
Today's weight: 64.3kg Difference: -800g Well had a lovely drop last night! Don't know what caused that. I decided to stick with the bread yesterday, because today it is upped to 2 slices and I wanted to see how my body would cope with that. On top of that, Saturday mornings I usually have a nice drop on the scales, so I shall see what happens. I realised I've not bought enough of the good fruits. What I did buy, son decided he wanted some too, so I ran out the day before yesterday. So I ended up have an old fruit instead of a good fruit yesterday and the day before. Will have to do that today too. Maya, here is a link to the Burgen bread I'm eating at the moment. http://www.burgen.com.au/range/soylin.aspx The slices are quite small so they do weigh around 30g each. Also regarding the different rules between Australia and the US, I think this bit that your consultant says kind of explains why Quote:

Well, have to admit, a whole sandwich, with chicken and salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber) was sooooooooo filling and divine!! Put mayo allowance on bread as well! I'm so stuffed!!! LOL
I can handle that for lunch on a regularl basis I think. Now just to wait and see what the scales tell me it's doing to my body! Hey Jo, thanks for popping in. The crap bread is the cheap, pre-packaged, pre-sliced bread that you buy off the shelves at Woolies eg $1.29 a loaf. But I guess it encompasses any cheap bread, as they would all have preservatives in them. I know there are bakeries that sell preservative free bread, I think I'll look into getting some of that too to try. Gee, to think I was never a bread person, but am now loving it! How ironic! Bread was the last thing I was looking forward to eating after this programme. Hope you are all going well! Vee |

I am a total bread person, Vee... I simply adore bread. When I was little, I ate it so much! I only have few pictures of myself at early age and on EVERY ONE OF THEM, I had a little piece of bread in my hands.
I remember when we had to run to the shelter the first time during the war. My backpak was ready - the survival things AND a piece of bread. I will never forget how very important that was for me. A little, cheap bagel. That meant more than a blanket, flashlight...just pure simplest bread. My grandmother would always make me chicory coffee (we didnt have real coffee, you could only get it if you knew someone in store) with milk and we would dip bread in it. Oh, what memories... Now, whenever I get home, my mom makes me this same little piece of bread (yup, they are still selling it) waiting for me in my old room. I am so happy to hear you enjoying the sandwich! Hm...Maybe I should try it, too? I dont like mayo, though. That is the only thing I simply get down...just to think what it's made of...maybe mustard? Can we have mustard? I'm sooo happy to hear how you doing few days ahead of me, girl! Is your daily activity same as during the diet? I have this little fear in me I should at least walk more if I'm eating more, but I guess I shouldnt... |

Day 8

Today's weight: 64.0kg Difference: -1.1kg Dropped another 300g overnight, after having the lovely chicken salad sandwich!! It looks like my body is happy with the extras. Today I'm supposed to have 3 slices of bread, but I think I'll stick with 2 and some crispbread. I als get to add a "bad" fruit, so had some strawberries! Yummo, haven't had those in over a year! Am really beginning to notice a difference in energy levels. Feel like I have much more energy now and not so tired all the time. I think it's a combination of having the good vitamins, the magnesium and calcium and the zinc supplements that I'm taking as well as having more food now. From today I'm actually allowed to mix proteins as well, which means no more 5 hour rule as well as having combinations of protein sticking with combinations of chicken, fish or meat. I haven't done that yet, will do some mixing for my meal tonight. I popped into the Salvos today, as my jeans I got a couple of weeks ago are really too big now, so I went looking for some more that fitted. I'm still totally off the mark gauging my size, but I did mange to find a nice pair of Wranglers that fit and a pair of Lees that are a little tight, but they will stretch a bit as you wear them, so got them anyway. Thanks for visiting Mette, Daffodil, Rose, Hexi, Maya and Yeti! Mette, the sandwich was DIVINE. Had it again today. Just loving it! Daffodil, thanks, you are doing such a great job! Rose, refeed land is fun, and exciting and very very satisfying!! Thanks for the info Hexi, wasn't sure which bakery it was. Maya, maybe I'm enjoying the bread because I've learnt to appreciate quality rather than quantity on this programme and the Burgen bread is definitely quality! I'm also very excited as I got all my Geneen Roth books (3) and cds (2) today! Can't wait to get right into them! Thanks again for putting me onto her! Yeti, refeed is so exciting, and also such a triumph! Oh yes, nearly forgot! I had to pop into the chemist to get a script filled for my son, and I bumped into one of the doctors I've seen from my doctor's surgery. I haven't really seen her in over a year, and she did a double take and then stopped to say to me that I'd lost a lot of weight and that I was looking very good, and how had I done it! I told her Cohens, and I could see she had never heard of it. She went on to say well done, I'd done very well losing all that weight and getting to where I am now. I felt really good by her acknowledgement! I guess it is a huge achievement to do the whole journey and see it through to the end! I'm giving myself a lot more credit for doing so well with this!
