weirdly, i can relate

I dropped out of the 40s for BMI a few weeks ago and I keep staring at the number in awe.

Headspace must be sorted too, if you don't know the triggers then it is much easier to "fall off the wagon".

This low sugar/refined sugars thing has made me realise that my choice must be life long.

Good morning

Week 11 finished = 85kg (-2 kg loss) Total loss 19kgs (20 kgs left to go).

I've had a couple of really good weeks loss wise, one more good week and it will be one excellent month, here is hoping.

While I am enjoying every second of being an 80s girl again, I have to confess with every kilo lost I am getting tantalisingly closer and closer to being a 70s girl and that really excites me. I think if I got down to say 78kg and my body said "nope, I want to stay right here forever" I would be one happy gal.

It's been over 10 years since I weighed in the 70's. Wow..10 years. How did a decade go by without me managing to get my weight under control? It wasn't for the lack of trying that is for sure.

This week I've been focussed on (read obsessed) with fashion. It started with wanting to buy another pair of summer sandals (my dog chewed and destroyed my favourite pair a couple of months ago). After much trawling the net I decided I needed/wanted a pair of Clarks originals for their cute 70s vibe. They were discounted on their website....beautiful.

Now, this is where I get into trouble.

Instead of just purchasing them and getting on with life. I hesitated due to that particular style not coming in half sizes. By the time I was ready to make the purchase, they were no longer on sale. However, almost every other style was slashed to bargain bottom prices - to clear stock for a new season.

Before I knew it. I had purchased 5 pairs of shoes. Those summer sandals, two pairs of pumps (one black one flesh coloured) plus a silver pair of slip-on loafers and a tan pair of brogues (oxford shoes). Note: Hubby doesn't know about the last two.

This type of spending is very out of character for me. Of course, I try to justify it because they were almost all on sale, but the truth is I've spent the last 8 years looking like a frump. I will not spend another day being her - The frump. She has left the building.

I have also been hitting the Op shops! Op shops have become my new passion. The thrill of finding something awesome amongst the crap quickly becomes addictive. The smaller sized you are the better the shopping. It's also a nice child free break to my week, op shopping. What's not to love.

Today, we have my niece's 1st birthday. I will be seeing a lot of people I haven't see in some time so I am looking forward to getting a little dressed up for the occasion. I'm unsure whether I will eat before we get there or take my lunch and eat with everyone else. Social occasions are still difficult for me.

I worry that people will notice I'm not eating, or eating differently to everyone else. Usually I'm worrying about nothing as most people are too focused on themselves to really care what others are doing. Also, it's not unusual these days for someone to be eating differently i.e. gluten free, vegetarian etc etc. I have found the phrase "I just don't have a sweet tooth" comes in very handy when people offer me something sweet. It doesn't prompt further questions or offend anyone, unlike explaining I'm on an eating plan or I've given up sugar can.

Did I mention my 6yo (almost 7yo) and I have been hitting the roller-skating rink lately. Taking off 19 kgs has made all the difference, I'm a lot more confident and co-ordinated with skates on now. It's a great way to spend an afternoon or evening actually. I hope to do it a whole lot more, my 6yo loves it and I find it's a nice way to bond with him.

Well, as usual I've managed to fill a page with my thoughts so I leave it here until next week. Next week is the last week of school holidays, then we are all back to business as usual and life will get a lot busier. Changes to my routine are always threats and I need to tread carefully particularly in the first week until I establish a new routine.

Have a great week everyone. I look forward to reading all your diaries. XX

Loved reading your thoughts
Made me laugh with the shoes
I think you are on the mark about op shops
I can imagine the feeling on getting closer to the 70 mark cannot wait until I get near there as well
I am getting excited I am nearing the 80s
Cheers

Week 12 finished = 83.9kg (-1.1kg loss) total lost 20.1kgs (18.9kg left to go).

I am typing this post from my bed, it appears I have had a rather large allergic reaction to something. I have red raw hives and welts over approximately 70% of my body. I look a complete mess.

I've never been allergic to anything before in the past so this has come as some shock, literally, my body is in shock. Anyway, as I'm eating a a very restricted type diet at present with similar food day in and day out I feel almost certain it isn't something I've eaten. I have in the last couple of weeks really been into different types of mushrooms like enoki, king and shiitake but like I mentioned they have been fine for a couple of weeks now, it would be weird to suddenly get a reaction now.

(Ah-ha moment)

After typing the above paragraph, it did occur to me that the Shiitake mushrooms are a relatively new addition to my meals, unlike the enoki and king mushrooms. I googled them and sure enough if eaten raw or partially cooked (I lightly pan fried them) they can be responsible for 'shiitake dermatitis' which seems to fit my symptoms exactly.

Well there you go. I can't believe I've done this to myself. This will have to go down as an all time 'high point' in 'things I have done to loose weight'. Fortunately most people recover completely within (wait for it) 2-3 WEEKS! Good lord!

It does feel good to find a reasonable explanation though, and learn I'm not about to die a painful death. Phew!

One of my earlier theories was I may have exposed myself to some toxic chemical by way of trying on some clothes stored in the garage - like abandoned
weed spray which was next to the clothes bag. You see, now I am 20kgs down I feel the need to change outfits at least twice, sometimes 3 time a day. I am still in complete awe that I can even fit into these clothes again. It's like I need to get in as many wears as I possibly can to make the most of it. (Yes, I'm aware this is totally abnormal behaviour, but I don't care). But the thought of poisoning myself via this abnormal behaviour was a little hard for me to take. I feel I can almost certainly rule out this theory now. (My doctor didn't feel it was a plausible explanation either.)

So, that has been my week. Full of ups and downs this one. All I can say is 'Don't eat raw Shiitake mushrooms' I know I never will EVER.

Take Care everyone.XX

Congratulations on 20.1kgs gone Donzie - that's amazing. I hope your allergy symptoms disappear quick. It sounds painful. I had a really bad time with allergies last year but this year thankfully so far everything has cleared up. Yes I will definitely steer clear of those mushrooms. I don't think your behaviour is abnormal. The weight loss is so fast on this and it's so awesome why wouldn't you want to do that

Sorry to hear about your allergic reaction Donzie - it really sounds uncomfortable. I hope it clears up quickly, especially now that you know what's caused it.

I can just imagine you trying on all those smaller clothes now that you've lost so much weight! Isn't it a great feeling to be able to put clothes on and they feel comfortable, even a little loose when before they were tight and pulling where they shouldn't?! What I'm always surprised at is how we seem to lose weight in different areas and then we put those lovely clothes on as a smaller person but the clothes are just hanging and sagging say around the bum but the top will still fit perfectly. I remember getting rid of some jeans last time I lost weight as the waist was a good fit but the bum and legs were so loose it wasn't a pretty sight at all!

Enjoy your new/old clothes while you can - before long they will all be too big for you

Well done on your loss! That so exciting!

Oh Donzie!

how awful having a reaction!

I can relate to the clothes thing, my jeans look hideous at the moment on me. I have taken to wearing my workout legging (baggier) but they still look better than jeans!

I too am rummaging around to see if I haven't worn anything i need to before they get too big!!

Keep being inspirational!

I'm SO FRICKiN ITCHY!

It's driving me crazy. Day 5 of the dreaded shiitake rash and I think the welts are subsiding a little now, but the itch is doing my head in. I can't seem to stay asleep at night either, TOO ITCHY!

Each morning I have continued to jump on the scale and I'm going up up up. It must be fluid or something as I haven't deviated at all, just cannot wait for this to be behind me. It is honestly the most unsightly rash I have ever seen.

I feel so fortunate to have worked out what it is because had I not I would be stressing like crazy that my kidneys or liver were about to pack it in. In fact I would have taken myself off to hospital and by necessity fallen off the bus well and truly by now.

So far this week has been the complete opposite to last week. Clothes and fashion are the FURTHEST thing from my mind. I can't even bare to do my hair right now, yep you guess it, TOO ITCHY!

I did venture up to the supermarket yesterday evening, first time I've been out of the house since Friday, I kept my head down and avoided eye contact with everyone - didn't want to frighten the locals.

Hang on need to ITCH. Ahhh........

Honestly Shiitake mushrooms should come with a warning. Do not eat raw or this can happen.

Wow! That's a serious rash Donzie!! I knew it was bad, you said so, but seeing your pics makes it more real! You must be so uncomfortable! Are you able to take any antihistamines?

Sending you healing thoughts.

I hope you don't have to wait the full 2-3 weeks. That looks unbearable. The weight gain is probably related and will go down a lot once you are better. Sending hugs x

Donzie,

The increase your seeing on the scales will be an inflammatory response linked to the welts. It'll all come good once its out of your system.

I grew up with food allergies and eczema. I recall a doctors words of wisdom that as your skin is the largest organ in the body and so is vital to our immune responses.

Horrible as it feels your body is in overdrive, using its most efficient systems to heal you. I hope you get some relief soon.

Week 13 finished = 84kgs (+.1kg gain) total lost 20kgs (19kg left to go).

I'm still alive!

Firstly, I want to say thank you to everyone who stopped by and offered support, it's been a bit of a miserable week (at the least the first half of it was) and I appreciated your comments a lot.

So 'Shiitake Mushroom Rash' is behind me now. The welts and spots have subsided leaving only the lightest mark of their existence, they are still a somewhat itchy, but nothing like before. My skin is still a little rough to touch but it's only been 8 days so I expect it to continue to improve over the next week.

I don't have a lot to report this week. Most of it was spent locked away behind closed doors.

Time to start catching up on others diaries.

Take care X

Well done on completing 13 weeks in such style Donzie and yay to the end of the rash! You certainly had a week out of the ordinary! I'm sure when your body has fully recovered you will be back to your normal losing cycle and with less than half to go I bet you're feeling truly motivated.

I'm excited to see this next part of your journey
