Exclamation Hi!

Just wanted to let you know, I am starting my 4th week today and drinking 2 Liters of water, and one more liter combo of coffee/diet pop a day and my bladder is used to it. I wasn't much of a water drinker or diet pop drinker before the diet.

The first two weeks was running to the bathroom all the time!

Good luck to you!

Post Bowel movement question

Hi guys, Ok i know there has been alot of posts on this topic however i don't know if this has ever been addressed.
I don't want to go into detail or make this graphic. But i want to know if anyone on this program experiences quite ALOT of 'pain' when going to the toilet every 4/5 days?
I don't know i just feel like my body loses touch with the feeling of going so that when i do go it just hurts alot more.

Perthwoman, maybe you have developed hemorrhoids and that's causing the pain. Perhaps get your doctor to check you out, or just go to the chemist and get some ointment and see if that helps. I haven't been bothered for years, so don't know much about treatment these days.

Also, it would be worth taking some psyllium each day to provide a bit of bulk.

Back again for the support. Still think the diet and the forum are the best ever, but too old to do it again. Now losing again slowly on maintenance diet. Ticker shows next intermediate goal only (5 kilos).

Perthwoman, I agree with AJ about the Psyllium husks. Since taking that everyday (about a level tsp) I've had no problems with constipation . I put it in my evening meal so I can't taste it.
Cheers

I mix my psyllium into my morning yoghurt. I'm still using it. However, there was a suggestion in a post last year that it might slow losses down, have a look here: http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthr...light=psyllium. I also took senna tablets, particularly towards the end of the diet. On maintenance I stopped the senna, took a couple of weeks to get back to normal BMs. Others have used senna tea to ensure regularity

I know this is probably an embarrasing topic, but I am sure there is someone out there who can shed the light for me. I have never had a problem with constipation before, so dunno what signs to look for. I have been on Cohens for 7 months now, without a problem and am 15kgs from goal (lost 43kgs)
#2's havent come knocking on my backdoor for 3 days now, which is highly unusual, and I am wondering if this belly pain and incredibly noisy southerlies are a sign that maybe that is what is going on? What can I do about it if it is? I havent started eating any differently than I was for the last 7 months, so if this is the problem, why now?? I have read all the way through this post, and have been eating mango every day recently (sometimes twice a day) I have had some psyllium husk, but it didnt seem to make a difference.

I am having quite the oppossite experiance....going but loosing alot of water but every day is different (sori! - TMI). I used to set my clock to it every morning.

This is a very important thread - any naturopath will ask this as the first indicator of where your body is at - what're your bowel movements like and what does it look like! Chinese Medicine will also focus on your movements as an indicator of your overall health.

I guess for us, alot is happening in the digestive tract from one end to the other & the food we are eating has changed. I just imagine it is a big broome - sweeping it all out!

Just keep the fluids up!

On this issue, try drinking one or two cans of Diet soft drink and/or chew chewys (extra) as it contains Phenylalanine which is a chemical which seems to make you go.
Warning ........ do not drink too much and it will make your need to go more urgent.

hope this helps

Default Bowels.... again (and laxative)

Dear all,

Apologies if this topic has been discussed time and time again (have already read the previous threads on BM)

I am used to regular bowels and find myself in a tight spot with hardly any BM for 4-5 days in a stretch. Understand from the clinic that BM 2x a week is completely "natural". I was recommended to have 2 tablespoons of metamucil for 3 days and then senokot on the 4th day and repeat cycle.

I need to try that but I have tried just about everything else - eating kiwi with husk (didn't quite work for me), psyllium husk, senakot, etc. The only thing that works wonders for me is senna tea leaves (a packet of senna tea leaves) - it sends me running for the bathroom but I was really concerned about over-reliance of the body on laxatives (may that be senakot, senna leaves, blackforest tea, etc)

I spoke with my doctor earlier this afternoon, and he advised me to take Lactulose. Unlike other laxatives, it is very safe to be taken on a daily basis. It is made of synthetic sugar, and the beauty of it is that the body will NOT absorb any of the synthetic sugar.

I have sent a request to the clinic to check with Dr Cohen on this particular laxative. Was wondering if anyone has ever come across this before?

Thought I'd just give everyone an update - Lactulose is allowed on the program. My clinic just rang me back with a big OK from Dr Cohen.

It's totally fab as it's something that is really safe to be used on a daily basis!

That is really good news for a lot of people as it just give them another avenue for relief. Some work for some people while other just don't quit do it. This gives another safe option.

Manisha,

the bleeding is most likely due to an anal fissure which is caused by a small tear in the sphincter or an inflamed hemorrhoid aggravated by you pushing to pass a stool.

Using something like the durolax liquid which is non dependant and works as a stool softener would be your best bet. It is safe to take every day without getting reliant and is Ok on the program.

You may like to see your doctor as well as there are several topical creams you can use to ease any discomfort caused.

Make sure you drink your 2-3 litres of water as well as your body will suck moisture back out of a stool in your colon if you aren't getting enough water.

try googling it manisha ... not sure it is called durolax there, so try for lactulose syrup and see what you get.
