Hi Rosemary

Thanks for popping into my diary and I am now catching up on diaries after my trips.

You are off to a great start. Well done. Isn't it great to feel the clothes getting larger and then to throw some out. How wonderful!

Rosemary I have a bit of a twist on the kids leaving home. When I was 16 home left me - yes my parents moved 500 kms away. I stayed to do my HSC at the same school. I joke now that they may have moved but I found them again - they should have changed their name !! I was only 16 but was very p[leased to be 'rowing my own boat.' Hopefully your daughter will be responsible and care for herself well.

Great to share the journey with you
Shanara

Default Thanks for all the support.

Thanks everyone for your responses. We have had heaps of rain and I have not been to work since Wednesday so I hope the road is clear tomorrow. I sure wish we could send some rain to all those poor people in Victoria with the bush fires. My heart goes out to them. I have tried to keep busy so I won't look for food while spending this time off. I have done some visiting friends and family but not too game to venture away from town with the heavy rainfalls - it just seems to keep coming down and just when you think it is finished it just keeps coming. The mighty Burdekin River is roaring under that bridge - quite a sight to see.

I have been checking my weight daily and I am a little disappointed that it is not moving much - some days not at all and I read somewhere on the forum that eating red meat can result in slow losses. Does anyone else agree with that? So I thought I might eat less of that as I have been having nearly one red meat a day to keep up my iron. So I had the dreaded tuna in springwater, so I drowned it with balsamic vinegar and then checked the time and I had to wait another half hour, so it actually tasted nice with the salad by the time I ate it. The thought of sleeping in is just not so much fun any more as today I stayed in bed and read for awhile and then got up and had breakfast at 9 so of course that meant I would not have lunch til 2, and then tea (dinner) at 7. Actually my mum must have been feeling sorry for me being at home alone and asked if I would like to come for lunch (but she said that she didn't know what to cook for me). She has the real Italian lunch every Sunday with spaghetti and roast so I really didn't want to sit and watch them eat that while I would eat nothing for another two hours. I will have to plan to eat with them and then I wouldn't feel like I was missing out on too much. I just couldn't face eating nothing while they were eating so I gracefully declined. She took it well considering food is a major part of her life. Both my mum and my eldest brother have diabeties so that was a big incentive to lose weight. I don't want to get that. By the way mum is by no means overweight - she watches what she eats for her sugar and she keeps her weight down as well. So she is very supportive of my weight losses.

Lousie - it looks like we will have to plan that get together next time you are in Ayr.

Thanks again for all the visits - I will try to visit all your diaries soon.
Cheers Rosemary

OOHHH Sunday lunch at Grandmas, I would have stayed away aswell It is really hard to watch other people eat like that in the early stages while you are setting a good habit for yourself.
The scales will move up and down...I guess thats why they do say to weigh monthly. Often I found with a quiet week that it was followed by a better week. Maybe the daily weighing is doing your head in.....I know I stopped doing it daily after the first few weeks. I had only a mere 200g gain one morning and it put me in a bad mood. Until I was ready to ride the daily weighing rollercoaster I kept it to once a week.
Also you could be surprised with your measurements.....kept taking them cause when the scales slow down generally measurements are going down.

Have a great day and I hope you get to Ayr today. Dad said there were over 140 semi trailers sitting in Home Hill waiting to get across!!!

Hi Rosemary, just checking in.

Sorry to here about the floods. Its not a nice time atm anywhere with the disasters happening. Victoria is getting it bad with the fires and hopefully we will have some cool changes with the weather here to help the poor families and firefighters who are being affected.

Hey I know your losses seem slow to you but I think that if we have a slower metabolism for what ever reason it takes a little longer for the our bodies to get into action.

My personal feelings about meat is that it is harder to digest and as I dont like red meat that much I keep it for just 3 or 4 meals a week if that. But Im continually changing my meals around has in my head I feel its keeping my body guessing and so far so good. No plateaus! Compared to others maybe my weight isnt has much but Im accepting that what ever comes off is good news.

I think you attitude and your losses are awesome anyway. Keep at it.

Hope that things get to normality up there with the floods. Stay safe!

Hi rosemary,
Like you i think i have a really slow metabolism and i know in the past i have lost very little weight day by day or even week by week so i made a conscious decision on this program not to weigh in any more than monthly. I started 2 weeks ago and will have my first weigh in 2 weeks at the clinic which i will visit monthly. I find it actually really takes the pressure off as i am sure my emotions would be on much more of a roller coaster if i weighed regularly.

I live in Western Victoria and we were fortunate that we only had a few fires over this way. The toll of the fires is unbelievable. I feel so sad for those families who have lost family or who are still waiting to hear whether they are alive.

It seems so bizarre that you are struggling with floods. I hope you are ok up that way.
Jeannie

Hi all,

Jen you are so right about Grandmas cooking. I will take my measurements in the next few days and see how they are. I will have to try to not get on those scales every day but it is hard.

I finally got to work today, took me ages just to go through the mail and attend to emails. But was more interesting than staying at home. I am definitely not a desperate housewife....... Wouldn't mind their figures though. LOL The amount of semis in little ole Home Hill was amazing. Lets hope the water does not come up again.

Maria - I think I will have less red meat meals and see how I go. Our floods are so minor compared to those dreadful bush fires.

Jeannie - Glad to hear those fires are not near you. Yes I probably have got a slow metabolism. But I am still pleased to see those kilos drop.

Nothing much to talk about with my foods, only I am still determined to be totally DF. I went and visited some friends up the road yesterday and they of course bought out the alcohol and the nibbles. Saying no to alcohol was easy - I just sat there with my water but the smell of the salt and vinegar chips was getting to me. I was wishing the wind would blow the other way and take the smell with it...... But I got over it. And they all knew I was on the diet so they would have teased me anyway. (In a nice way - that keeps me on the straight and narrow.) Thats what friends are for.

Well, time to get back to work. Cheers Rosemary

Those salt and vinegear chips can be a bit tantalising, good on you for resisting. I wont be making it through Homehill tomorrow, If you wave at about 8am I may be flying over you head! I decided even if I could have made it through tomorrow I may not have got home at the end of the week so I opted to fly! Hopefully we can catch up on my next trip. Keep on the plan and I bet you will get a nice drop really soon!

Heya Rosemary

I eat quite a lot of red meat, pretty much every night - and this week I'm 400g UP from saturdays weight - dunno what thats all about, maybe I should cut down my meat too.

I have found that taking a bit whiff of what ever is driving me crazy either puts me off or satisfies me. Today I spotted the container of chocolate freckles and I got the heart race thing - so I opened the container and took a huge sniff... Oh they smelt so good, and that was enough, I put the lid back on and went on with my business.

Stay strong! x

Good on you for not submitting to the salt and vinegar chips Rosemary. Its such a major hurdle to overcome when you pass up temptation like that. So well done to you!

I am also not eating much red meat this week. I am hoping fish and chicken might induce a bigger loss this week.

Keep strong!!

Hi Everyone,
Louise - shame about the timing but we will find a day when we can meet - I am keen to talk as I think you have done SO WELL - I can't believe how much travelling you do and still manage to control your weight. You are a great example to us all.

Sam - I don't know if I could have stopped at just wiffing the chocolate freckles...

Daffodil - interesting about our feelings with the red meat.

Sam & Daffodil - I am going to eat less red meat for awhile and see if it does make a difference. It will be interesting if we all compare notes.

I have been getting through the days totally DF but I do admit to some tempting cravings for chips and peanuts but there are none in the house anyway... Not that I would partake.

Hubby gets home tomorrow and then number two son comes home for two weeks on Thursday so I will be back to cooking "normal meals" as well. I don't mind - after the week on my own I enjoy the company. I have so enjoyed the lack of dirty clothes to wash, fold etc. I do not create much housework on my own. After a day at work I love coming home and seeing the house in the same condition that I leave it in the morning. So although I miss the family I don't have to look far for the advantages. I think those few days off due to the flooding was driving me crazy so its not all bad.

I am considering going out to Dysart to visit my sister. My workplace is involved in drilling water bores and selling and maintaining pumps etc so needless to say with this current weather situation the business has not been busy so it will be easy for me to take some time off - but not sit at home this time. I will go with my husband when he goes back to work because his work camp is not far from where she lives. He is actually doing two days extra next shift so it looks like I will leave Sunday and return the following Tuesday night. Of course she has the net so I can still visit the forum (can't go without that) but I will not have my bathroom scales for nine days - might do me good..LOL (I plan on packing my kitchen scales of course). I intend on taking an eski with some prepared food so all that should not be an issue. I am looking forward to catching up with her and her family.

Thats all for now, Thanks everyone, cheers Rosemary

Hi Rosemary...

I like to think there is nothing more we can do to speed things up if we are following our programs BUT I sorta think that when I stick with white meats like fish and chicken and drop out the red meat it comes off quicker...

I think sometimes it is coincidence though....but give it a whirl if it makes you feel better

Hi Rosemary - I have just caught up on your last few days of diary entries. Congrats on the losses so far. I can't believe I missed your first goal - now below 85kg - WOOHOOO!!!!!

Congrats!

I am glad that the only inconvenience from the flooding for you has been some time off work. Have fun at your sister's place.

Rosemary after cancelling my Ayr appointments for the second time in a week I told them Id ring them back when the rain stops! Lets hope that will be soon, I think we have had enough for a couple of weeks! Has plantation creek gone down yet? I think it a good policy to keep away from those things that tempt us, but I must admit that like Sam I have taken a lot of enjoyment out of the smell of things that once I would have just eaten. I bet you will have a lovely surprise on the scales afte a 9 day absence!

Default Week 4

Hi all, Lost another 1.1 kgs this week and I am pleased - another amount to add to my total. Getting closer to that next goal. As I said earlier I was a bit concerned that red meat was holding me back a bit as I normally had one per day and the scales had barely moved this last week by day 4, so I have stuck to fish and chicken for the last two days and the scales didn't move til this morning with 400 grams lost and the another 700 grams were earlier in the week. So that is something I will keep an eye on.

I had my lunch yesterday with my three close friends (we meet every fortnight for lunch) and it went well. We all work and only have the one hour to eat and talk, So we try to ring ahead and order and that was easier as I took my time over the phone and ordered my special request. I had chicken and the garden salad selecting the correct salads and balsamic vinegar (skipping their dressing). I didn't eat all the salad but the chicken portion seemed ok. And the scales were friendly this morning so I must have the done the right thing.

The only bad spot in the day was that someone took my decaf diet coke out of the fridge at work and I was looking forward to having that at the end of the day before I went and did some shopping etc. But when I went to get it - it was gone !! NOT Happy Jan !!!! So I am on the hunt to find the culprit. I am the only woman in the workplace so the men have to answer to me..... And today is pay day and I might just forget to pay the guilty party. Heehee - No I am not that mean (I might just deduct the price of the coke plus stress......) mmmm

I probably won't have time to visit diaries today. Gotta go now and prepare lunch for hubby and me (He actually works some days at my workplace when he is home) and have breakfast before 7.30. I am off to the movies tonite to see "the curious case of Benjamin Button". I have been looking forward to this for awhile - I was worried I was going to miss it as it was showing in Ayr when the road was blocked, but a friend and I are going tonite. Hope it is as good as I expect.

Lets all stay DF, Cheers Rosemary

1.1kg Thats great Aunty Rosemary........you are doing so great!!! I am so super proud of your D free status!!!!! It is so much easier to stay D free. It has been harder than I though to get my head back on track after deviating at Xmas but I am finally back in my zone.

You will have to give those little cousins of mine......that are soooooo super cute the biggest cuddles from me. Have a great time in Dysart. Aunty Majella is a great supporter of us so she will be great to be around so you can continue to be D free!!!!!!

Enjoy the movies...Mel has seen it and she liked it.....I think she liked the chance to perve on old Brad Pitt more

Have a great day
Love Jen
