Hi again

Hope you are all doing well.
Here are my stats for week 5 of the challenge.

START: 1/2/10:
76.9 kg
8/2/10: 74.1. - Loss 2.8kg

15/2/10: 72.2 - Loss 1.9kg
21/2/10: 71.2 - Loss 1kg
2/3/10: 70.3 - Loss .9kg
8/3/10: 69.9 - Loss .4kg (I was certain last week's deviation would catch me out)

Total Loss: 7kg

Trying to have an extra good week but anxious about a birthdy lunch this Thursday. Impossible to take my own meal - so will have to ride it out. I can have chicken and salad - do't HAVE to have the bread, pudding AND birthday cake too. I don't know why I always feel I have to eat it all to 'prove' to my friends I am not dieting!!! I am sabotaging myself!!!
Ho hum......

Have a great week all.

Cheers
Jade

Thanks Laura
It was a good week, but I'm not getting excited because I've gone backwards in the last two days lol. This serial weighing thing really is a killer. I'm just going to smile and say "Oh **** it. It'll come off when it wants". Well I'm going to try anyway

Well, Here are my Stats For Week 6
01/2/10: 122.4
08/2/10: 121.9
15/2/10: 120.3
22/2/10: 118.8
01/3/10: 117.2
08/3/10: 115.3
15/3/10: 114.7
Loss This Week = 0.6 kg
Total Loss = 7.7 kg

Pretty disgusted with this week's result. I do wish someone could actually explain why 4 out of the 7 days this week I showed a gain, 1 day no change and 2 days I went down. I understand fluctuations and don't want to be told not to weigh myself every day. I would just like to understand how one can gain 4 days out of 7 when following such a strict regime. If I'm retaining fluid, shouldn't I take tablets for that? I have before. I would love to ask Dr Cohen some questions, but we have NO line of communication with him. I get nothing from my clinic other than, "don't worrry" or "don't weigh yourself, let us do that", or "it's different for women". Nothing in those statements actually helps me understand so that I don't get depressed, angry or frustrated. Right now I am frustrated, espectially since I can't get a reasonable answer from the Cohen's team. If not for the forum, I think I really would be a screaming heap right now.

Hi

Well today is the end of the challenge.

My states
Start weight 76.9 kg
Current weight 69.1 kg

so 7.8kg lost.

I am very happy with that and have decided that I actually don't think these challenges are particularly motivating for me as they can put more pressure on you when there is nothing you can do to lose weight faster. I also think it is a bit unrealistic unless you are in your first month...
I think the Mango Challenges are better really as it is all about staying deviation free.

Congraulations to everyone on your losses. Did anyone make 10kg?

Jlou I coudn't have said it better myself. I do feel pretty upset with myself and not terribly motivated right now, but I will remain deviation free. No more of these kind of challenges for me. I'm better off just plodding at my own pace and not expecting things that may not be reasonable for me.

emjay,

It's rough keeping one's head in the right place when we invest in something that has a strongly recommended method of execution. I was a serial weigher as well. But in my case, I'm a purely analytical type of person and I knew, due to my research prior to ever signing on the dotted line, that if I embarked on this journey it would be successful. I also knew that there were reasons WHY Dr. C advised certain things. Things like why we can eat green capsicum but not red or yellow. Certain yoghurts and not others and a myriad other admonitions. But, the way I looked at it was, I was spending a lot of money for his 25 years of research and I was going to allow his programme to do its magic. But, while I didn't follow the admonition about serial weighing, I also knew I had already lost the weight, and the end result would show itself if I but followed the dietary portion of the programme 100%.

I found out that things like exercise are not good for instance. Too much exercise can cause the body to start storing food as fat rather than the free burn that the programme creates. The low caloric intake of food is just above the starvation level and the food types/quantities/spacings allow the various chemicals contained in those foods to create a mind fooling situation that allows the serotonin to tell us that we are actually satisfied and not to go into starvation mode. Too much exercise can disrupt the fine balance. Too much exercise you say? Walking can be considered a form of exercise. So can housework. Any "physical" activity is exercise. What is exercise? The exertion of the muscles of the human body. Any strenuous exercise can cause you to burn more calories leaving not enough to maintain your systems at a minimal level. So, what happens? You stop losing weight while the body trys to store up energy. So, between that, TOM, normals ebb & flow of the female body, Dr. Cohens advises only to weigh monthly and measure weekly. The ideal goal is not a weight but a size. That is why you have a range for goal, as each individual is different, their final "size" will be relative to the height/shoe size but their final weight can fluctuate due to other things like skeletal mass or original muscle density.

Therefore, when I go to a Doctor cause I have a ailment, I trust the doctor's advice and don't go out and get a medical degree to understand why. I pay him for his knowledge. Same here. Dr. C is not a PhD doctor, he's a certified MD and cardiologist. Therefore, I trust him. (yeah I know, there are quack docs out there - I don't use them - I do my research first).

So, if one does not follow the instructions, they may well experience frustrations. Some can be serial weighers with no problems. Other, like yourself, apparently, cannot without letting it mess with your headspace. Try using the weekly measurements method as a means to gauge your losses (in size) as opposed to kilogrammes. You are already at goal in your mind (or you should be). I was. And the programme was just the process to get there. I thought mine should have been only 3.5 months but it took 5 months. But guess what! I got there and literally became a New You!

Try just accepting that the programme works regardless. Take a look at Annabelle Joy's Diary. She was up and down almost on a daily basis, she & I started 1 day apart but she had more to lose. She averaged between 1 & 1.1kg/week throughout the programme but she was up & down all the way. She may even still have her spread sheet attached at the end. Mine is attached in my signature. Give the programme a chance and accept that our bodies often have a mind of their own but the programme will work if we but let it.

Well thats it then SMS I'm NOT DOING ANY MORE HOUSEWORK!!!!! LOL.

1/2/10 - 85.1
8/2/10 - 84.3

Hi SMS,

Thanks for your post. I understand the diet and the reasons why we eat what we're eating and trust me exrecise is the furthest thing from my mind. I am sure I'm allergic to exercise . I don't even walk that much as I have some Osteo Arthritis in one knee and walking at the moment is actually pretty painful.

I do know the reasons for not eating red capsicum, lamb etc. Lamb I only know to some extent because I'm actually allergic to it and the reason for that is because it has a different protein from all other meats, so between that and it being a fattier meat, I assume are the reasons we can't eat it. Capsicum for instance as it ripens more has more natural sugars in it so green is best. I am not in any way questioning why the foods we eat are on our list. I too trust the diet and Dr Cohen's reasons.

I understand that as an Obstetrician he has done an awful lot of research into infertility and hormones (a sufferer myself and many years of treatments and hormone injections every month) and made some discoveries about hormones, our bodies, imbalances and obesity. I greatly admire what he has done and discovered.

I do accept that the program works. I don't understand why my asking some questions about fluctuations in my weight has caused such a furor on the forum. I was not comparing myself with anyone. I just wanted to find out if there were any possible answers to my queries.

I am drinking 4 litres of water a day at the express instruction of my clinic. In fact Sharon was rather adamant that I should have at least 4 litres. I do add Celtic salt to my cooking (not directly to the food on my plate, way too strong a flavour). I have a history of fluid retention going back many many years and have taken Lasix for it in the past, so was always warned away from salt, so it's been an eye opener to find out I now need to add it into my diet. My ankles, calves, kneews and hands have shown very obvious signs of retention and still do now and I am still taking the extra salt as I aws advised, but it does go against my grain.

I am truly sorry if I have caused problems on the forum and I think it'll be better if I don't ask any more questions. I did think that supprt was the idea. I feel rather like a naughty school child that's been put in her place right now.

I'm not really sure what else I can say, other than I am happy I've lost 18 kilos (very happy). I also know what average means, but I also understand that taking my initial weight loss in the first week or two into the equation is a little unfair right now as the loss was dramatic. In the last 6 weeks in this 10 kilos in 6 week challenge, my average has been 1.2 kilos per week, which is nice.

I will post this in my diary as well as that's what it's for but all I was doing was asking some questions and for the most part getting wonderful support.

Michelle,

There is no reason for you to feel chastised. We have all had misinterpretations of various things in the programme in the begining. A lot of us have received incorrect information from a couple of the clinics, both in Australia and here in Singapore and in Europe as well. Often people (consultants) like to play 20 questions and end up telling clients (us) things that are their interpretation and not what Dr. C said. The water things as been discussed here before and even Dr Cohen at one point was contacted and his reply can be found here: http://newyouforum.com/forum/showpos...46&postcount=6

There is no harm in asking questions. We just get concerned when information is put out there that is patently incorrect as we are afraid that others may well pick up on it and think that it's the way it is supposed to be and possibly do damage to their health that was avoidable. Please have a read of the link supplied and well as mcphysc's thread The Science.....http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9840

As we say up here, relak lah (malay for relax, no harm done)
