Cohen Date: W8D7 Monday 23rd April
Today's Weight: 92.4kg (+0.8kg) BLACK MONDAY!
Total CMs (updated Tues.): 9.1cm week 51.5cm total

Breakfast: 9:30 am Yoghurt & Apple
Snack: 11am Crackers
Lunch: 2:45pm Turkey Soup & Crackers (homemade with silverbeet, spring onions, asparagus)
Snack: 5pm Crackers
Dinner: Fish Soup (homemade white fish & silverbeet & spring onion) PRETTY AVERAGE
Supper: Nil
Fluids: 3 decaf coffee, 2.5litre water
Deviations: Nil but cracker between lunch and arvo snack a little close.

Please ignore all my post of yesterday as I smashed back UP over the 20kg loss mark.

Will write more on why once I have my head around it. Suffice to say you can only stretch the rules so far. Clearly yesterday’s soup was not Cohen’s friendly and I am now paying for it.

Why did I eat the soup? Because I thought I could get away with it.

I could have said, may I have instead a green salad. Even if I paid more. But no, I had the soup and then thinking it was mostly clear and flavoured with tomato I had another bowl in some deluded justification is was not enough vegs. Where was the protein, it is the swirl of Parmesan cheese I said. Mostly fat that cheese. Essentially I used “silly logic” to bring about my own undoing.

I can only hope it is one off and in 2 days of 0.4kg loss I will return back to what I was yesterday. But that is three days gone to be back at square one. Ane I have my report to the clinic tomorrow. Would like to have had great rather than good news.

I can now really empathise for Baloo and his recent deviation.

Peter

Stick with it Peter. Both you and Baloo and going great. I am sure it was a full moon over the weekend as I had an ugly one too. Back into it now and have paid the price with feeling crap and an increase on the scales. But anyway as I said BACK INTO IT!!

Thanks for your concern.

Yeah, my wife gave me hug and I have thrown myself into work.

Best to simply ignore like a bad game for a footballer. What I do today cannot change yesterday.

I could be mean and say I am really glad it happened to you because that gets me back out in front in our little race. But I won't

Seriously, don't sweat it. I've replied to you in my thread with some details of what happened to me. Let me know if you have questions.

Peter,

I agree with Baloo...

Don't sweat the small stuff, and as we all know.... IT'S ALL SMALL STUFF!

You'll be fine, and like Edison said when someone asked him how many attempts he'd had to produce a light bulb and he answered a huge number. So, you failed xxx times?! He said, No, I just found xxx-1 ways it didn't work...

Now you know one way Cohens won't work.

Hi Peter, were all just human here. I admire the people who stick with this program and don't ever cross the line. Put it all behind you and tomorrow is another day. Stick with what you have been doing and you will get there in the end. You are doing just great and don't let Baloo get away from you.

I agree, just get back behind the Cohen line (which is very clear) and keep going. It isnt a race and there is only one winner. Anyway the gain will be almost certainly water load due to the salt in the soup and maybe some water that accumulates when you eat carbs (beans!) and hence gain glycogen in your muscles.

I can say to both you and Baloo that that 20KG barrier was a tough one to clear. Yet once past you can sail down to the last 5 kgs which sorry to say were for me quite tough! Asy is approaching the last 5KG so I will be interested to see if she finds it tough going or not!

Hi Peter

I noticed that you are eating onion twice in one day. Any particular reason for this? I was limited to no more than one tablespoon per day, so even one spring onion was more than that.

As we have discovered with Cohen's, even very small deviations can cause the weight loss to stall or even go backwards! The body is in such a delicate state that keeping it in that state is a delicate task.

Having said that, don't beat yourself up over this lack of loss. It all goes around and comes around. Just for the sake of mentioning it, it is 24th April (I finished 24th June, 2006) and I weighed 60 kilos this morning. So that's ten months stable weight.

Keep on keeping on, the results are well worth it!

Regards

Kristine

Not so much tough going, coz it's really second nature now. I must admit I'm almost *not* looking forward to having to work out what I'm going to eat myself!

I'm really (still) craving a cup of tea.

I've been hanging out for a cup of tea since day one. I just love cups of tea.

I bought myself a new tea cup about a month before I started, and I put it away thinking I'll open it when we get onto the farm. Well, on the weekend I was particularly hanging out for a cuppa, so I fished the cup out of the cupboard and unwrapped it. I've put it onto the counter in the kitchen and the day I finish the programme my daughter has asked whether she can make me the first cup of tea.

I can't wait.

Just wanted to say, I know I haven't varied from the plan (knowingly) while I've been on it, and it seems to me some people seem to think I'm some sort of amazing person. I'm not. Well, I don't think I am anyway. I was scared. REALLY scared. Scared of dying, scared of my kids being brought up by their lunatic father. That's what's made me do the programme. That's what's made me stick to the straight and narrow. Could you imagine how LONG this darned thing would have taken if I'd mucked around? I had 91kg to lose. That's NINETY ONE KG to lose. I know it's taken willpower. But all the willpower I need is in my children's faces. (sorry Peter, didn't mean to hijack your thread, but have wanted to say that for a bit...)

Hi Peter
I know it can be disheartening when you know your performance is because of the choices you've made. Just think - if you didn't make the choice to have the soup you wouldn't have benefitted from the learning experience that you can now apply to your eating plan.

I did the same with cheese - I can't say no and find my will power to allow myself to deviate from quantities and eating it more than 3/week a pain in the butt. I am having my last cheese meal for lunch today - I will enjoy it and say goodbye to eating it.

The message here - don't beat yourself up about it. Go with the process and just observe your behaviours and thoughts and try not to judge (easier said than done). In the grand scheme of things it's only 3days of your life.

cheers
amanda

[Cohen Date: W9D1 Tuesday 24th April
Today's Weight: 91.8kg (-0.6kg) GOOD TUESDAY!
Total CMs (updated Tues.): 4cm in a week 56.75cm total

Breakfast: 9:00 am Yoghurt & Apple
Snack:11:45am 2 Crackers
Lunch: 2pm Cohen Burger: crackers with beef burger, lettuce, tomato, onion, zucchini
Snack: 5pm crackers
Dinner: Chicken Stir Fry (chicken, garlic, onion, silvebeet,)
Supper: Orange
Fluids: 2.5litre water, 3 decaf coffee
Deviations: Nil

A big thankyou to all how replied to BLACK MONDAY with support and advice.

It seems Less Fatty was right and it was a water issue. I had never considered that. When you go the toilet so much it is hard to believe any water is still inside!

But I have learnt my lesson and will work diligently to beat the 20kg wall! I feel I am so close and look forward to being in the eighties so much that a few weeks of pure cohens is not that hard.

“Don’t sweat the small stuff” should be my signature.

And today is measure time so the latest CM is above. A weekly loss of 4cm over 5 days but 5.6cm when counted over 7days

Peter

Your comments are welcome Asy and not a hijack at all. Infact, I feel very blessed that so many here have responded to my setback when others appear to have much greater problems.

I note the onion comment Kristine and re-read my book. Onion and tomato are my favourite food on and off Cohens.

Hey Peter,

It's interesting to me to read about when people deviate - we all know we shouldn't. We're told that it can set us back up to a week. Then we get disheartened when it does?? I know that when I deviated I thought to myself it can't be that bad surely... It was!! It cost me at least 4 days to just get back to the weight that I was when I deviated. But I too have learnt from it and know now what it will cost. And I too thought I could get away with it!!

In a way I'm (kinda?) glad I did. I think I just needed to test the theory and see how my body reacted. Now I know I can keep going safe in the knowledge of what will happen if I step out of line again.

It is also so not fair the whole men/women weight loss!! I've got about the same numbers as you - start weight 113kg and current weight 92kg. BUT I started a whole month before you!! 26/01/07 *******!!! (said in kind hearted jest!!!!)

Don't let Baloo get in front....... (Sorry Baloo!!)

Cheers

hmmm, you're only 1 major deviation away. Scary. I can feel your breath on the back of my neck.

Business trip to Sydney May 7th. Should be an easier one to manage than the others as the business dinners tend to be at steak places, like Kingsley's. Lunch should be fine with a Subway on every corner or a deli that can make to order. I'll need to do everything I can to stay ahead !

Hi All

Minime: Yeah it is great being a guy on Cohens. Must be all the protien linked to muscle thing.

FYI I had my fortnightly clinic call tonight. Karen ( adviser) usualy checks my diary so there is no way to hide but she has been busy so did not know about yesterday. I prepared for the worst.

However she was very happy and says I am flying. She thought I might have eaten chocolate or some thing really bad (with easter). NO way, I wouldnever do that! In fact I dont really enjoy chocolate that much. Cheese on cracker or with eggs that another story.

Karen agrees it was probably the salt content and resulting water retention. So I am unlikely to have the four day lag as others have had.

Watch out Baloo, Peter

I dont know what is sadder? that we are both online at 11:30pm or that we are such weight loss fanatics! we need to post. Anyhow good evening from Aussie.

When in Sydney: If you are anywhere near Central Station go down past Lee Street past the Mecure Hotel. It becomes Regent St. Left hand side going south and opposite the Mortuary Station is Bountiful Burgers Cafe. 5 minute walk.

Looks boring , hole in the wall but really great. Ask for Marion or Peter (owners) and tell them you want Cohens Chicken Salad like they make for Peter from BDM. They make it 120g steamed chicken on fresh shredded 120g salad of lettice, cucumber, tom, onion. Garnish with S & P and vinegar. Costs $8 and yummy. Good long blacks as well.
