Thanks everyone for your replies! Much appreciated!!

So pretty much i was told by doctor that it's a result in long term calorie defficiency, and although it will resume once normal eating starts after refeed here i am with a few months left to go till i get to refeed and goal weight

I've been told by some friends to come off the program, (i look like a chemo patient), but i'm stubborn and just want this weight off me. So i'm kind of in a lost situation at the moment.

My consultant just told me to see the doctor, so not sure what to do now.

To get to goal weight i have at least 3months left, but will my hair be completely destroyed by this time? (it's still falling out after every comb through)

Hey PW, I don't know how much this helps but according to my hairstylist, Humans change hair every 7 years. So the old ones will drop and replaced by new ones. Hormonal change also affects hair growth as well and quite rightly so since we are on cohen programme. You might want to change your usual shampoo and conditioner. Perhaps buy them from salon rather than those off the rack in the supermarts - use mild shampoo rather than the stronger ones. I've since dropped those meant for oily hair has my hair changes its texture and scalp no longer so oily. If it is still bad, then perhaps consider going off cohen for a while. I also notice that if I buy conditioner off the rack, I drop more hair than usual.

Default Hair loss

Hi Perthwoman

I am also in Perth

I am taking Blackmores Zinc and this is supose to help with your nails, skin and hair. I have been taking this since I started the program and it seems to help- I used to loose bunches of hair each time I brushed! I would also recomend washing your hair much less- twice a week as this has helped a lot for me.

Another Perth one here too.

I only had problems on refeed, throughout the diet my hair appeared the same. On refeed it started falling out heaps, mainly when I shampoo'd so I agree, if you can, wash less often.

the good thing is, it does get better. 8 months into maintenance my hair is finally back thick and glossy.

Hang in there.

So i'm hoping 2more months and i'll be finished, i could go longer but i don't want to as my hair is really bad, i'm hoping to just finish and do refeed at the high end of my goal weight.

8weeks to go, countdown!!
my diary dissappeared , oh well, i wasn't much of a frequent poster?

Thanks every single one for your help with this hard issue i'm having, i reallly appreciate it!!

HI Perthwoman

Hang in there with your hair. You'll soon ahve a skinny body and great hair.

Your diary didn't disappear - it is in the unverified diaries section. Link is here;

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5658

To verify your diary go to 'Quick Links' near the top of the screen and click on 'NYF Diary Request'. On that just give your Cohens number to Admin and your diary will be verified and moved back to the diary section.

Blessings
Shanara

Hi Joroma,

Not sure about that - maybe you won't be able to until Perthwoman verifies her diary.

Good luck with the hair. Perhaps a good heairdresser can recommend a good protein crema for your hair.

Only on refeed did I lose clumps of hair, when washing. Now it is still happening but not as much as during refeed.

I am nearly one month in to the program and I only have noticed positive changes in my hair - a bit shinier and I am not losing any more than usual.

I take the blackmores sustained release vitamins x 2/day, Blackmores hair/skin/nails x 2/day, Chromium x 1, fish oil x 1.

My consultant told me though that due to my lack of energy, that I should consider possibly changing to the neways vitamins that they offer at the clinic.

While I know hairloss may happen, I have lost hair before - while breastfeeding and when being extremely stressed...at least this time it's because I am doing something very positive for my body.

As I told a friend who refused to go on this diet due to the potential hair loss, I would rather be skinny & in control of my eating habits and wear a wig for a few months than be fat, have all my hair and be unhealthy.

Everyone is different though and that is completely understandable if some people don't want to take the risk of losing their hair.

Perthwoman - Good luck with your situation, hon. Maybe you could get a nice wig to wear in the interim if it doesn't look presentable the way it currently is? Hoping your natural hair comes back quickly for you!!

I'm no longer on my plan because I am pregnant, but with this pregnancy, I had been losing hair in clumps. I was really concerned about how much hair I would have left at the end of my pregnancy and after breast feeding. Anyway, after doing some research, I came across a fantastic shampoo & conditioner called Nioxin. I have been using it now for 2 weeks and I am losing less than a 1/4 of the hair I was losing before. Yep it is a little expensive, we paid $90 for a 150ml shampoo, 150 conditioner & leave in spray in a pack... but I have very thick, long hair and I use no more than a 10c piece size to shampoo and about the same with the conditioner... I am no where near through 1/2 the bottle yet and I have been using it daily.

So if you're desperate like I was, look into it... it really is fantastic. They have a website too, just google Nioxin.

Hi Jamanoha,
Which system (that's what they call the different types) are you using, I've found it but there's a few different systems. I'm having a problem with hairloss at the moment.
Cheers
Michelle

Not sure which system, but I am using #7 for medium/coarse hair, chemically enhanced hair, normal to thin looking hair. I have the Cleanser (Shampoo), Scalp Therapy (Conditioner) and Scalp Therapy Spray.

Hi Perthwoman,

I have just started refeed but like you my hair was falling out way before refeed including a bald spot on my part line - hmmm, nice!!!.

Only last week I was told to use Organic Pure Virgin Coconut oil (get it from Health food stores) and to rub it through hair and scalp. Make sure you wear a towel on your head to bed. My hair now feels amazing and I have been using the coconut oil on my hair as well as all over my skin and face.

Best thing about it........ I smell like a chocolate crackle!!!!

Have a look at Shell's posts on Coconut Oil. It is really quite amazing (and not very expensive). Once I finish refeed I will also be cooking with it.

Good luck, Tanya.

I have been on the programme for nearly 8 weeks now. In the last 2 weeks I have noticed that my hair is softer and shinier. I hope I am one of the lucky ones as I already have very thin hair! Would not like to lose any.

Just my 2c worth.

Roxy... I think that most people find the issues with hair loss arise when they're close to refeed or during refeed.

I was wondering if my hair loss could have been attributed to the fact that I stopped Cohens after 13 weeks and was also pregnant... I put it down to the pregnancy more than anything.
For what it's worth, my hair loss has basically stopped now and my hair is looking fantastic, even though it is in dire need of a cut.

Hi guys
i have nearly completed 6 weeks on this program and have lost 11kgs. I am happy with the weight loss but scared now from the comments you guys have made about the hair loss, dry skin etc.
so far i am not experiencing any of these, thank god. I was thinking, maybe if we increased our fish oil/flaxseed oil tablets and used a good moisturiser, would this help out & would it make the weight loss slow up? If i find my hair starting to fall out, i can tell you now i wont last much longer on this diet. I would have to say this diet is the hardest to follow then any other diet. I am willing to stick it out til 3mths but if i find i havent lost enough weight or i start to experience anything like hair loss etc, i wont be sticking to it. I know on other diets like weight watchers, u can lose a kg a week so if thats all i will be losing on this diet & suffering from hair loss, for me......its not worth it.

Talking Re: What they don't tell you - hair loss & other medical issues.

Hi Kylie1980

It sounds as if you are already giving up and just because of comments. You must realise that this is a life long commitment with a program that works. I don't know how much weight you have to lose but the few negatives that go with the program far outway the negatives that go with obesity, including death. I have been on the program now for 8 weeks and have lost 14kg. No other diet has ever worked this well for me, and I have been on them all. I am finding the diet very easy to follow and all cravings have gone. The only time I am hungry is about half an hour before I have to eat. Are you eating your fruit and crackers inbetween meals? This is very important and cutting them out won't help the weight fall off faster.

You will find doctors who don't agree with the diet but that is because they are doctors and have not studied weight loss like Dr Cohen. This method of weight loss has been used for many years with obese people and proven that it works. I had leg pains in the evening but slow mag sorted that out. I drink my omega 3 everyday and 2 x centrum every day. I feel and look great and receive a lot of compliments. Even if my hair does fall out I will still stick to the program. Hey, I can buy a wig and do my hair in the evenings and then sleep longer in the mornings .

In the end it is your choice and I suppose the program does not work for everyone, although I have not really read about anybody who has said the program does not work for them. If it does not work then it is the person that is not following it correctly. Anyway that was my 2c worth. Good luck and I hope you continue on the program and don't give up. It will be worth it in the end!!

I've lost over 22kg in 12.5 weeks. Haven't had any side effects like hair loss etc. Don't understand why this diet would give you dry skin. My skin has never been better, so many people have commented on my complexion, and I never thought I had bad skin to begin with. But if you now compare my before and after photos - I do not look red/blotchy anymore. I'm sure it's the water, it keeps me constantly hydrated and that can only be good for your skin.

This is the best dieting programme Kylie, don't let a few negative comments based on someone's INDIVIDUAL experience put you off.

COLLECTIVELY, you can see what people really feel about it.

You've done very well, please keep going, you'll be glad you did.
