To weigh or not to weigh.. that is the question!
I know I am very new here but I am curious to know how often everyone weighs themselves? I know daily weighing is not a good idea but it seems to keep me motivated... so what does everyone else do? |

Re: To weigh or not to weigh.. that is the question!
Hey there,
I only started weighing daily towards the end of the programme (before refeeding) but I found it not very motivating as weight loss wouldn't budge!! However, now that I am on maintenance, I find weighing every day keeps me accountable. |

Re: To weigh or not to weigh.. that is the question!
I weigh every single day and night. If I lose weight Im wrapped, if I dont its fluid retention and thats why they say only weigh monthly. You will find though that 95% of Cohenites weigh daily. But remember the proof is in the way your clothes feel and look on you.
Welcome aboard the Cohens train. Its a great trip. |

Re: To weigh or not to weigh.. that is the question!
I am the odd one out. I dont weigh daily and have no intention of starting to. In the past when I have gone on diets - not cohens- I weighed daily and found it very frustrating. With this plan I KNOW it is going to work so dont feel the need to validate daily and am happy to weigh in at the clinic once a fortnight. Of course, it is still early days for me and one should never say never!
I completely understand why some want to weigh daily and am not saying they shouldn't but know that for myself I wouldn't find it helpful. I kind of like that nervous anticipation of 'what will it be' and having to GO somewhere to get weighed. That probably just makes me seem 'weird', but I can live with that. Each to his/her own. Of course I am lucky too that I have a clinic only 10 minutes from where I live and I know that many here do not. |

I completely understand the anticipation of not knowing what you have lost... I think for the first week I might weigh daily and then weekly... lets see how it goes!!!

Re: To weigh or not to weigh.. that is the question!
I think for the first week u shouldnt weigh... u should try and hold off as long as you can! Then the drop will be so huge and you will feel amazing! I didnt weigh for two weeks when I started... got on the scales... 9.3kgs! I was gobsmacked and sooo motivated!
Now I weigh daily because I get to excited to wait! |

Thanks Laura.... it is quite exciting.. i cant believe i dropped over 3kg in 2 days.. kind of scary to think how much i must have been eating before for my body to react with such a loss!!!

Re: To weigh or not to weigh.. that is the question!
After 2.5 weeks on this, I find, for me, that I seem to lose weight more on a 2 - 3 day cycle, rather than daily. With a pause ONCE (so far) for 4 days where the weight did not budge but where I found I lost TWO inches of my waist and TWO INCHES OF EACH THIGH!!! That totally flabbergasted me (in a nice way, of course). So if I get on the scales and see no weight loss, I don't let it get to me cos I know the inches are melting away, and if I DO see a weight loss I am happy. Either way it is a win-win situation . But then, I am always an optimist and insist on seeing the silver lining in every cloud.
You CAN do it A71... and that amazing 3.2kg in 2 days is JUST THE START

Re: To weigh or not to weigh.. that is the question!
Hey, if you are in KL before July 10th, let me know, so we can meet up for a meal - I will take you to my favourite restaurant, where you can have a really delicious balsamic wild mushroom salad (minus the pine nuts) which fits perfectly with the Cohens diet!!!!
I am out of the country 10th July to 11th August inclusive, so I hope you do come before that!!!

Re: To weigh or not to weigh.. that is the question!
Hi Foggydue and well done on your great start to Cohens.
I don't weigh except for the Cohen's weigh in, and now the 6 weeks challenge I've joined. The only time I did weigh was a couple of weeks ago when I made a couple of mistakes and felt I had stalled. I think it's better not to weigh every day. If I weigh and get a bad result, it affects my whole day and even can affect my eating. If you weigh weekly or monthly it gives you an average weight loss for the period. AND I have a good old fashioned scale, so it doesn't pick up if I've put on grams! Much better. I can see from some posts that sensitive digital scales cause a lot of heartbreak! I've got a little sticker where my goal is and a little sticker where I'm at and just round it to the nearest kilo! |

Re: To weigh or not to weigh.. that is the question!
Hey A71 - I am one of the odd ones who only weigh monthly. I must admit part way through a month it gets hard as i start to wonder if it is working but I also realised that my emotions were too closely linked to what the scales said so it was not helpful for me to weigh any more frequently than what the good Doc recommends.

Re: To weigh or not to weigh.. that is the question!
hi there, I weighed every day for the first two weeks and then switched to weekly, now definitely weekly for the 6kg in 10 weeks challenge. But I measure whenever I need a 'hit' and as I read on the forum i put the tape out to my original measurements for the WOW factor..........

Re: To weigh or not to weigh.. that is the question!
Interesting (though not surprising) that everyone does it a different way. I started out weighing everyday, but found that after a trip overseas when I couldn't weigh myself I had been weaned of the habit. I also found that at the end of the trip I had lost some weight, despite eating whatever was served the whole week I was away. This diet really does work. A couple of months after finishing refeed the weight has stabilised and goes up and down within a range. I agree with what some of the others have said- the fit of the clothes is the rule of thumb, and much more effective as a regulator of food intake than the numbers on the scale.
