Default Advice on South Africian travels please

Just booked and paid for our travels to Africa next year, so excited. Booked early as I am climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in July while hubby does a safari. We are then going to Zanzibar (anyone know of nice "beach" accommodation for 3 nights, staying in Stone Town for 3 nights as well) before heading south, first to Victoria Falls before flying down to Johannesburg on 31st July. Here is the part I would love some advice on - what to do next as we don't fly out of Cape Town until 16 August.

At this stage, I am thinking we will fly onto Durban, pick up a rental car and make our way to Cape Town - just over 2 weeks. As there are a few South Africians on the forum, I wondered if anyone can suggest any "must do's/must see's" along the way. As we are farming folks, we would love to see some arable land/farm stays etc. We do do "cities" but really prefer the rural/nature holidays.

Any suggestions/comments most welcomed
many thanks
Winterboots

Well Winterboots...Cape Town will keep you more than busy for two weeks! We have two magnificent coasts! I think you'll be right on time for Whale season in Hermanus...a trip up Table Mountain a must! Cape Point you have to experience...then I really don't mind if you miss the rest of the city as long as you do our wine routes MAGNIFICENT!!!! Also if you a keen you should fit in one township tour.
You can just google and I'm you will find lots of tours and accomodation. You know what you like so it is best to explore the wonderful world of the web!
Sounds like you have a fantastic holiday planned!

Hi Winterboots

A coastal drive from Durban towards Cape Town sounds amazing - you'll past through the Eastern Cape; onto the 'Garden Route' where the sceneries are out of this world - George, Knysna, etc. Look up Storms River and Tsitsikamma for the most beautiful hiking trails and national parks.

Then when you enter the Western Cape, you'll find Hermanus like Jilly Vanilly mentioned, then Agulhas - the most South Point in Africa where you'll see the two oceans meet. And then onto Cape Town...

Winter-boots. My heart lies in the Lowveld. The two weeks between Jo'burg and Cape Town, will be a great opportunity for you to explore the Lowveld. Start at Dullstroom, travel to Sabie, Hazyview, perhaps spend a few nights in the Kruger national park, and then see Nelspruit, White river and the surrounding areas. A good place for accommodation is Safarinow.com. We have a 4x4 shop, therefore I can really recommend the Bushveld as a nice get away. Hope this helps

Thanks everyone for your advice. I will have fun googling your recommendations and making travel plans. From what I have seen and read so far, we are going to such an awesome holiday however am worried about the wine - one of my weaknesses
