bean sprouts are from green beans right? I know that the only two beans that are more protein than others are black beans and soy beans.

I agree with Flamie.

bean sprouts are a starchy vegetable, so I would expect they could make you hold fluid in a similar way to carbs

Fortunately, as a long time gout sufferer I don't have to worry about that. Not allowed in my diet anyway!

But yeah, starch = carbs = bloat!

I think Mung beans are carbs beans. I don't think they are carb free.

Ok, interestingly, I read this somewhere, so correct me if I'm wrong. There are 2 kinds of carbs, 1) carbs from rice/flour etc 2) carbs from beans. Apparently, the body doesn't absorb as much carbs from beans than carbs from rice. In fact, carbs from beans is supposed to be good?!?!?!?!

Bingo! This explains a lot. I just didn't connect bean sprouts with beans/starchy carbs. They seem so far removed from starch. I have been eating them a lot. That's another thing out the window on maintenance for me. I was eating them in soups etc instead of having pasta or rice, when it sounds like I may as well have eaten the pasta or rice. Thanks for this folks. cheers, cate
