Default 2nd time around

Hi Everyone,

Today is the first day of the rest of my life and I have made the decision to go back on the Cohen's eating plan. After successfully losing 40kg two years ago I vowed I would never ever get fat again....two years later I am....so here I go again, I am disgusted with myself for letting this happen, how i loved being 62kg. I have been trying very hard every day and every day i have failed and today I hit rock bottom so I realise I need help to get back on track and also the will power. I know for my health's sake I have to do this and also to fit into all those lovely size 10, 12 clothes I have in a suitcase. I will be coming to this forum daily to try to keep me motivated and on track!

Hi there fatsonomore

Welcome! We are all here at the Forum to support each other - and ourselves!

When you get your ticker organised we can cheer you on, kilo by kilo, back to your lovely 62 kilo self.

First of all, though, it may be important to figure out HOW you got to be fat again. I am guessing you are actually obese again, not just a few kilos over goal weight? Have you put the whole 40 kilos back on? How long were you at 62 kilos before you started to gain weight, and how quickly have you gained the 40 kilos?

A bit of background would be good, as this is not about losing weight - any mug can lose weight - it is about being slim for life!

I am twelve months from completion, and am sitting at 62 kilos today, about 1.5 kilos above where I would ideally like to be but this is where I am. I 'have my moments' but generally eat very moderately now. The endless eating is no longer attractive to me, and big meals or heavy foods no longer appeal. I am confident that the program did, indeed, 'reset the dials' and that I can cruise between 60 and 62 kilos indefinitely.

So - please share your history with us so that we can learn and so that we can support you to achieve a slim life, not just a slim interlude.

Cheers

Kristine

fatsonomore, I'm a little puzzled by your comment.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your previous success. It's a shame that you have gained the weight again but I guess now you will be more aware of the triggers and why it happened. You also have the advantage of this great programme and your previous experience to get you back to 62kg.

I am all too aware of how easy it is too regain some of the weight after having completed the programme and refeed and the difficulty psychologically to get my head around Cohens again, but I will do it.

Good luck with your new journey and look forward to those skinny clothes again.

Lauren

fatsonomore I think Kristine's comment was in good faith.

We all can fall off the wagon. Look at my recent diaster on refeed in diaries. After burning through 35kg in 20 weeks I stuffed up refeed in days. I could say "well I am only 77kg" and so what but my logic is , if the diet works because I did it right ( like you) then the refeed works and I need to do it right as well.

If we acknowledge we made a mistake and try again it better than hiding it or not trying at all.

Welcome to the forum, Peter 14.7

Got to agree with the others. Kristine was offering a valuable insight here.

If you fall over, it's not just good enough standing back up again because you'll most likely fall over. Work out why you fell over, take some steps so it won't make you fall over again and you have a better chance of succeeding.

Welcome to the forum
My main theme for me regarding losing the weight is about controlling what goes on in my head. I have posted several times on this. I am losing weight but in order for me to do that in a sustainable manner and keep it off forever I have to deal with why I allowed myself to get fat in the first place. I know all about nutrition and what is healthy to eat so it wasn't lack of knowledge - it was using food to deal with emotional issues.

I knew that I had to learn to deal with things appropriately and I still battle my old habits every day. I literally have to take it one meal at a time. I have to undo a lifetime of conditioning for the weight to stay off in the long term.

I am so impressed that you have been able to lose the weight originally and now you are going to do it again. That takes a lot of courage because it's easier to throw your hands up in the air and accept being an overweight person for the rest of your life. To lose the weight again will require commitment and discipline - so you know you can do this since you've already done it.

The journey will be diifficult but rewarding and worth the effort. Please don't be offended by what Kristine has said - it is true that anyone can lose weight - the real trick is to keep it off for life. That is the real prize and the real achievement - that will be my biggest hurdle.

I would love for you to come back to the forum and don't shy away or be offended. I have so much to learn from you as you go on this journey. If you post about what you have learnt and continue to learn we can all help each other. Once you have worked out why you put the weight back on and design your life to prevent that from happening again you will be unstoppable!!!!!!!! I can't wait to watch how you progress.

Good luck and best wishes
Amanda
