Re: Contraceptive Pill
Hey Blaque
This is a very valid question as it is part of life so dont think it's weird or that you have to apologise!! I have been on the pill now for about 1.5 years and I was also worried about the weight gain side effect as the previous one I took made me put on 5kg's pretty much straight away. I spoke to my doctor about it and she recommended a pill called Yasmin that over a course of a year it is supose to cause a 1kg weight-loss. I have PCOS and normally gain weight at the drop of a hat but since being on this pill and cohen's have lost a lot of weight so I can 100% recommend it, AND it also helps to clear up your skin and stop preiod pain (which was incrediby painful for me). SO yeah go for the pill called Yasmin, I know a couple of people who are on it and have done cohen's and dont have any trouble with weight gain xx |

Re: Contraceptive Pill
hey chicks
ive been on the pill for years, i started with diane, then moved onto to yasmin which made me gain about 3kg in one week! i dropped that fast and am now on valette which is a low dose pill and ive been on it the whole time ive been on cohens with no side effects or negative impact on weight loss. spk to your doc and ask about valette as i know its one of the lowest doses and i def didnt gain weight with it. also my skin is perfect on it, which is always a plus! xx |

Re: Contraceptive Pill
I was on Yasmin for 2 + years and changed to Levlin ED about 6mnths ago. Yasmin had wayyyy too many bad side effects. Which have now all cleared up and I feel like myself again. Except my skin isn't as nice, but small price to pay.
Yes, yasmin got rid of some bloat and made my skin nice. But I also started suffering anxiety attacks, depression, bad headaches, crazy mood swings, intense boob pain, reduced libido, insaneeee-o cravings and almost non-existant periods. This began about 8mnths - 1yr after taking it. Never had any inkling of an issue with any of the above before, and haven't since stopping Yasmin. It took awhile but I finally connected the dots, changed to a different pill and am now 100% back to normal. Just be aware and keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary and discuss with your doctor if you think you need to change pills. Some doctors will dismiss you / try to prescribe more medication for the 'symptoms' - but if you feel it really is the pill you're reacting to insist on trying a new one and see or take a break for a few months. Some people react differently to different hormone combos/levels, so what might work for your friends might make you a miserable mess!

Re: Contraceptive Pill
Yasmin is recommended as one of the best for PCOS girls. it has definately helped my daughter who has PCOS just like her mum .. Lucky thing she is. Obviously It doesn't always suit those with no PCOS (and is very expensive to boot) so the moral is .. try and see which one works for you I guess. Like everything else it is a matter of which one works for your body!

Re: Contraceptive Pill
I've been on Yasmin for years for PCOS. Don't think it's affected my weight loss at all - then again I wouldn't know because I haven't been off it! I really like it - keeps my skin clear too which is a nice bonus. I think as the other gals have said, you just need to work out which one works best for you

Re: Contraceptive Pill
A great alternative (if you have had children) is the Mirena IUD, it has a hormone release in it and doesnt seem to make weight gain but for me it has been a saviour in stopping very painful periods....
Lasts for 5 years as well

Re: Contraceptive Pill
Ahhh I didn't realise Yasmin was so good for PCOS!! That's why it has been a dream come true for me I have had no ill side effects at all besides decreased libido (which sucks) but my skin is PERFECT now and I didn't put on any weight. I used to get lots of pimples around my jaw and mouth (PCOS related) but now it's all gone. I LOVE Yasmin and even though it's expensive it's worth it for ME, but I agree with everyone else- whatever works for you and what your doctor recommends is the best
best of luck xx nic |

Re: Contraceptive Pill
You don't even need to have had kids! I have been using Mirena IUDs since 2000 (almost at the end of my second one), when I was 18. I highly recommend it!

Re: Contraceptive Pill
Hey everyone..
I'm new to this forum, so HI! My name is Kristy and I have been on cohens going on 3 months, and I'm half way there...slowly slowly getting there. I was on Levlen which was not working very well for me so I moved over to Yasmin. Yasmin seemed to be fine for me for quite awhile but then for many many months I was spotting nearly all the time, and then I would have my normal period for about 4 days which would be quite light. I saw my doc and she changed me over to Microgynon 50.. which from what I can understand is a really high dosage pill. I have been on it for 4 weeks now and since then I have lost NO weight at all I had one bad week inbetween that so I was expecting to not loose for a week until I was all balanced out again etc.. but now it's been 2 weeks since I have been back on cohens 100% and I'm still sitting at the exact same weight! I'm going to give it a bit longer and see if it's just my body taking longer to balance out because it was quite a bad week for me... but if after 3 weeks and still nothing, I dont know what to do! I spoke to my consultant and told her I was thinking of going off the pill and she said that she does not recommend it while on the program because you're so fertile... but if this pill is working against me this much, what else can I do? My body obviously needs the high dosage pill, so I can't go back to Yasmin... argh! Anyone else on this pill or experienced similiar problems? Thanks for listening. Kristy |
