Thumbs up PrawnHead Soup

PrawnHead Soup

Recipe Description
Delicious prawn soup with a hint of chilli and a tomatoey taste.
Ingredients:
Green Prawns
Chilli Powder
Garlic
Coriander
Tomato
Bok Choy
Mushrooms
Celery
Shallots
Preparation Steps:
Peel the green prawns and put the heads and shells into water and boil to make a stock. Drain heads and shells out and use the remaining water as soup base.
Level of Difficulty:
Easy
Time Needed:
10 minutes
Serves:
1 meal
Instructions:
Chop a mixture of veges to use. I use garlic, coriander, tomato, bok choy, mushrooms (shitake) celery, shallots. You could also use cabbage or cauliflower or zucchini if you wish.
Put chilli powder into stock you have just made.
Add Veges - cook to taste. I don't cook for long as I like crispy veges.
Add green prawns - cook for about one minute until prawns cooked - don't overcook prawns - they will go tough.
Serve and eat whilst hot. Yum.

Hey Shanara. I've asked about making stock with a variety of proteins, including prawns and was told that we weren't able to consume... Is this wrong? Or maybe just another 'different strokes for different consult-folks'??? This sounds divine!!!

Was also told by our consultant here in Singapore that stock is not allowed. But this recipe really looks lovely!

I spoke with my consultant and she said it (stock) would be ok with that meal, but don't use it for any other dishes. I had it last night yum yum

I suppose its ok if you weight the prawns in their shells - what I normally do is that I take out the shells and weigh the prawns first before freezing them. So I can't use this recipe if I am using fresh prawns. Oh but wouldn't that be just probably 6 prawns to eat?

I made this recipe up after a post from Asy where she said it was OK to boil the prawn heads and shells and use them with prawns but it was not OK to use other proteins eg beef, veal, chicken to make stock. You also cannot use this stock with beef, veal, chicken etc as that would be mixing proteins.

Hope you enjoy. By the way I lost 60 kgs in 8 months and ate this soup several times a week - sometimes almost every day as it was my favourite for ages and I still regularly eat it now.

Enjoy
Shanara

OMG I used this recipe as a steamboat - I am lucky and managed to pick up some mini-steamboats a long time ago!!!!!

This is my new WOW DISH - the one that you bring out because it looks complicated but is sooooo easy!!!

Hi. We, in singapore was told not to use any stock (as said by divineparadise). I've a question, can I made soup with the shell and prawnheads at one go, then divide it out for use in many other prawn meals? In other word, I'll boil all the 1kg of prawns' shells and heads that I buy weekly, boil all of them at one go and divide the portion out when i need to cook my prawns. Is that ok?
