Default Negative Nellies!!!

Well, I need to vent. I just told a friend that I am going to be doing the program and she basically said it was a waste of time. She has another friend who did Cohen's and lost 25kg, but in the last year or so has put 17kg back on. So this friend says it's not worth it because as soon as you stop the program and eat 'normally' you put all the weight back on.

Uh, I'm sorry but as far as I'm concerned it's pretty obvious that you can't go back to eating the way we were before because THAT is WHY we became overweight in the first place!! It is a lifestyle change that is needed not a few months of being strict and then over eat the wrong foods again or of course the weight will come back!

I am kicking myself that I even mentioned it, should have kept it to myself. Unfortunately this friend who thinks Cohen's is a bad idea is also overweight and has admitted to having no will power and not even wanting to try and lose weight as it's all to hard - I think she just doesn't want anyone else to lose weight either which is sad I think. Some support would be nice.

I think I'm finished my vent now....ahhh serenity now.

I have found that people project their fears and insecurities onto you as they may feel that they would fail...and so like telling you that you will too!!
I have experienced soooo many negative comments from people about Cohens...I have found that I now tell alot of people Im treating certain allergies ...and have been put on a restricted diet by a doctor.
This is hard enough to do without people being negative! Definately save your money and do this.....you wont regret it.
Cheers

Ahhh Suzi!!! it sure does suck the big one.. even after people see my success 'some' will still choose to bag it out.. BUT it's usually the people who can't find the courage themselves .. take heart.. not everyone is like this & more importantly it's how YOU feel about it that matters.

Smile Ignore those negative nellies

Hi Suzi

Dont listen to them. It doesnt matter what you do in life there is always someone who will find something negative to say. Its your life and its noone elses concern but yours what you choose to do with it. I bet that person is probably jealous that she doesnt have the motivation to do something about her own weight, by criticising the program she is just trying to justify to herself why shes not soing something herself. She will eat her words when she sees you looking great and full of energy - then she might come and say "what was the name of that program again?

*HUGS* Suzi! I've discovered that EVERYONE'S an expert on diets out there. But I know how much the criticism hurts... just wait until people start telling you that you're too skinny But as Faithy says the most important thing is YOU. I've tried the 'snappy' sarcastic come-backs, but you know, it's just not worth it. Everyone is ready to change and grow at their own pace. You can't rush or convince someone just because you're already there and loving the changes. Keep doing what you're doing, smile and let it go.

Thumbs down It is your life..... you need to take control !!!!

I understand how hard it is ........ I had many knockers when I started and many who had watched me fail many times before and who were really negative towards the Program for all sorts of reasons.

I heard so many reason why it would not work in the end I suddenly realized that that was a cause as well of my being overweight. I suddenly realized that its more than just the Cohen's eating plan and weight loss ....... its all about taking responsibility for every single decision you make in your life in its entirety ....... regardless of what any one ....be it family, partner or child or a neighbor or friend may say to you.

You need to listen and then politely and with a smile tell them that its your body and your life and that you will call the shots at all times ...... and whilst they have lots of knowledge ..... not one of them has the same qualification as ..... yourself to judge your own needs and wants and secondly the Doctor COHEN who researched and wrote the program that you have chosen to do and when they can produce their qualifications - that they then can show you and that you will listen to their knowledge and that you will still make your own decision about your own body and your own life.

And here we are ..... and now the same people are telling me ...... "I told you that you needed to do something about your weight" ... I smile and nod and walk away !!!

Suzie, I find that responding with "but that's got nothing to do with the diet" tends to shut people up. Clearly, it's not the fault of the diet if people go back to eating as they did and put it all back on again. Most people seem to recognise that once it is pointed out to them.

Back again to do it all over again, starting from exactly the same weight as last time.
My health is not good and my doctor is predicting all sorts of nasty things if I don't lose weight.
What else do I do? I help people make money and I help people save money. Please take a look at http://www.acnlinks.clancie.com.au/
Back again for the support. Still think the diet and the forum are the best ever, but too old to do it again. Now losing again slowly on maintenance diet. Ticker shows next intermediate goal only (5 kilos).

Default Thanks Everyone

Thanks for all the support guys, that was really lovely of you all and I needed it today.

I have only been doing the 'prepping for Cohen's' for 3 days now but I feel better already! I think carbs really don't agree with my body anyway so I'm not missing them at all.

I shouldn't have but I weighed myself this morning and was happy to see I'd lost 1.4kg in 2 days, I don't want to make a habit of daily weighing though as I get discouraged if I go up at all and I know that will be the case sometimes.

Once again, thank you for the support and I am soooo determined to do this no matter what anyone says! But for now I think I'm not telling anyone else, my head is in a good place now and I don't want to lose that!

Cheers

Suzie

HI Suzie

Ive had exactly the same from some people. Everyone knows someone who put the weight back on. It makes me all the more determined I am never going back to the same eating habits as before. Never want to hear "I told you so"

My close friends and family have all been 100% supportive and thats all that matters.

This programme works, the weight comes off quickly eneough to keep us motivated and the support of people on this forum gives us the tools to create our own maintenance guidelines when the time comes.

The knockers only make me stronger.

Suzie I dont tell people as I figure what I eat is a very personal thing. Obviously my partner knows. Even with him I didnt go into too many details, but he has been good and asked what I can and cant have so he doesnt lead me astray. If someone notices I just say Im watching the carbs, but dont bother going into details. When Im offered things I just say no thankyou. I figure if I say Im on a diet they are more likely to try and puch things on me. I went to a barbeque the other night, everyone was asked to bring their onw meat so that was good. I just had my meat and a bit of salad - no one noticed the things I didnt have. I prefer not to bring attention to my diet and the truth is many people are careful to eat healthy anyway so they often just think that is all your doing.
I told one other person I was on a diet, but didnt go into any details except to say I want to look fabulous when I turn 50 (not for 2 years) so they just thought that was a nice goal!
If people ask why Ive lost weight when it becomes more obvious I may say then, as usually then they are asking because they want to try it too!

I have barely told anyone that I am doing cohens, i hate the "it wont work" and all the negitive advice people seem to enjoy off loading. I believe it is all down to the fact that they are possibly jealous, jealous that your actually doing something quite positive, something that has the power to truly invent you in all areas and they feel insecure because maybe you'll become better than them or you might "out grow" them or it reminds them that they too need to do something about their weight/health and they are struggling, for some reason alot of people cannot handle "change" and as a result all sorts of insecurities etc pop up. Its sad we get like that really, we tend to celebrate peoples short comings and failures rather than their positives - especially when it comes to losing weight. I've only choosen to tell the people I know will be pro active in helping my on my cohens journey i have no time for the crap that i know others will be quite happy to dump on me. And hey what is this forum for really - 100% positive support!!

Thumbs up Hang in there and DO NOT let others discourage you, GO FOR IT, IT WORKS!

Hi SuziQ & everyone else that has ran into KNOW IT ALL insecure fairweather friends. A true friend would say Great! and give you unlimited support with your decision!

Remind yourself who you are truely doing this program for and it is yourself and not these insecure so called friends.

This is my second go around on Cohens & I know this program works and people are so much healthier after losing alot of weight.

Sometimes people try to pull you back down to their level when they think that you are going to better yourself and you have a tremendous fantastic group that totally supports you and your decision here.

Go for it Girlfriend.....Be that healthy skinny person that has been crying to get out of your body, I am and almost lost 40 kilos this time around.

I had the best ego booster the other day....my self esteem went over the moon, I was able to get into a Size 12 and over 6 months ago I was in a Size 26......bloated, on alot of medication, miserable as heck with myself and my decision to go back to taking care of myself has been so rewarding this time around, only taking half the medication I was, able to walk up a long flight of steps, not out of breathe all the time, able to move around so much better now than when I carried that other person around with me(small one now)....just so much happier all around. hehehehe I just love it my husband refers to me as his skinny wife and I still have 13 kilos to go....Now he is proud to be seen out in public with me and not ashamed as he was I bet when I had let myself go so bad with the added weight...

I'm doing the program for myself and no one else....and I feel terrific for it.

Yes there will be alot of sabotage from all directions but please keep true to yourself and don't let them get you down!
Remember we all believe in you and I know you will do very well, so keep up the good work....Hubba Hubba soon to be skinny girlfriend...

Take care til next time!
Jooz....on the Sunshine Coast, Sunny Queensland....
