highPRF's (Mikes) diary
Well I have been lurking for a while, so I guess it is time to come out into the light and say hi. I started the program about 2 weeks ago now and I have just been amazed at the results, so far I have lost 9kgs and 16cms, finally a program that I can see some results, it helps to keep me motivated. I guess I am alot like everyone else, you know, tried nearly every diet known, just about resigned to being big forever but not really happy about it etc etc. I had a friend similar size to me who went on the program and lost all his weight (along with blood pressure problems and pre-diabetes symptoms) so I thought why not give it a go. I have just been away on holidays for a week, which was nice, but also a bit of an eye-opener to me about my old eating habits. It took a lot of willpower but I am happy to report that I was DF. Being a larger person I never liked to call attention to myself, so the thought of asking for something not on a menu or done differently was inconceivable prior to this, we managed to go out to dinner twice while away and stay on the program. A little about myself, I live in Sydney, have 2yr old twins and a lovely wife so I have all the motivation I need to succeed. Finally, a big thank you to all who have posted their diaries and pictures and all those who offer support and advice, it really does make a difference to a lot of people, not just those who post ! Anyway, I look forward to the journey with you all to our happier, healthier selfs. Last edited by asy; 10-03-2009 at 23:02. Reason: diary verified -asy. |

Hi Mike,
Hehe - the way things started out, it seems to me like THIS post became a kind of "de facto early diary" for you. Apologies to the "old hands" - New You Forums With your diary now in place (here), I thought it would be nice to easily be able to "find" that other thread whenever you wanted to re-read your diary. Hope things are still cruising along for you. Koh

You wont regret this programme and welcome to the forum.. I cant say how much my life has changed and yes its a great motivator to loose the weight so quickly but knowing we are heallthy doing it..
You will be there before you know it. You will be running after those twins of you as a proud daddy (well you should be proud now I hope) but I mean about yourself. Its an awesome feeling to be healthy and be a good role model for your children. My family is loving it.. Just for a short time we haveto be df but guess what that will get us to goal so much quicker so we can just get on with our lives. have a great weekend and well done again on what you have achieved so far. Maria

Hi Mike
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like your off to a great start. 9 kgs already - great work!! Your twins will have to run fast to catch up with you. Bet your wife is proud of you. Mike well done on eating out and asking for your requirements. I feel it's important that we can still do the things we enjoy with family and friends. Makes us more able to integrate our eating into our life and be able to maintain the weight loss we achieve. Just noticed we have almost the same to loose - shall keep an eye on you. I expect you will loose it before i do - men tend to be faster but I am aiming to keep you close - not letting you get too far ahead! Enjoy your journey Shanara

Hi All,
Thanks for the warm welcome from everyone. Reb, thanks, yes the kids do keep us busy, but also provide lots of motivation. The trick to eating out is not to be afraid to ask for what you want. Koh and Michelle, thank you all seems to be rolling along well still. Maria and Shanara, I have been reading your diaries and I am inspired by your progress so far and as you say Maria it is only for a (relatively) short time that we have to be DF. I have found that whenever I am tempted to eat something inappropriate I remind myself not now but not never either. I have just had the busiest/hardest long weekend program wise. I had my mum's 70th birthday dinner on friday night, I did really well and asked for exactly what I wanted and the staff were happy to help. I have found if you are flexible enough with what you can have (ie meat, fish or chicken with green leafy vegetable) they can usually find something in the kitchen that will suit your needs. Mind you watching everyone get stuck into the cake and chocolate fountain........remind me again, what is that mantra everyone uses ?? So then on Saturday night it was my brother's 50th birthday and nearly my downfall, not by wanting something but almost by habit. Sitting at a party having a good chinwag and catch-up with people and party snacks on table, you all know the scene, chips, corn chips, dips etc Twice I found myself with something in my hand without thinking, but I showed great resolve and put them down !!! Finally, today was my wife's birthday, so we went out to a nice dinner (so glad she was happy to go to a steak-house !) and then we had friends around for cake, I enjoyed my orange and crisp-breads instead. All up I think I did pretty well, but I did learn to be cautious of habits and make sure I am aware of what is going in to my mouth and why !! Hope you are all doing well and drinking that water ! |

Well done
Hi Mike,
Welcome to forum, you have done absolutely great.!!!! Congratulations. I think the hardest thing on this diet is not to be tempted to taste test when you are cooking, its just a natural thing for a woman to want to do after she has prepared a meal. BUT i guess we will get use to that. My husband is very supportive and a real sweetie and he is only too pleased to taste test, so thats cool All the best Cheers Col |

hi everyone,
Well most of the way through week 4 and I have noticed that my weight loss has slowed down this week, a little bit disappointing, but from reading alot of other diaries I'm sure I will lose cms this week instead.I don't want to use the plateau word yet as it seems too early for this to happen surely? I have an exam at work on Sunday so I am sure the stress of that is not helping either, along with little sleep as the kids are going through a restless period at night (again). Col - I hear you about cooking for others, especially when we are trying to encourage the kids to eat different vegs etc and I am not eating them! To stay motivated I'm reading a lot of diaries and trying to be proud of my weight loss so far. Anyway, stay well and hydrated (I just read an article that suggests that over 50% of the american population is dehydrated and don't know it, they mistake it for hunger and eat instead of drinking water!!) Hello Mike, guess this is the first time I'm dropping by your diary. Just realised that we are at about the losing point / weeks. I'm into week 4 day 5 today. I started on 23 Feb. I must say it is so fortunate to be a guy...you guys lose weight way faster than us! Nonetheless, congratulations on passing the 10kg loss mark. You'll soon get to your ideal weight in no time and prolly 2-3 months down the road, when you re-read your own diary, a magical glow will light up your face ! Onward and Downward sizing!

Hi Mike,
Speaking of taste testing food!!!! Today my husband Ray, made Mettwurst, and Herb&garlic & Cheese Cabana, and tomatoe and onion cabana. He makes it all with his own ingredients, so we know exactly what is in it, and i tell you, when i could smell it smoking away in the smoker it was just to die for!! When they were cooked he proceeded to cut one and tell me very proudly "Wow! this is the best batch ever that i have made"! Then he looked at me and realized i couldn't have any!! God Bless him, the look on his face was priceless ...hahah, but thats ok i guess there WILL come a day when i can have a very small piece. The sacrafice is worth it . I have a quote i have used for some time "There is always a light at the end of the tunnel., BUT, sometimes we have to run down and light it ourselves" and losing weight is one of those times. Cheers Col |

Hi All,
Well another interesting week has rolled by and the weight just keeps falling off. You have got to love this "diet". Still weighing myself every other day, but not stressing about the results anymore, as KOH suggested "I have just let go and enjoying the results". I am sorry I haven't written for a while but I had a quick trip up to the states and back. Any forum members have any suggestions on how to deal with time changes and international travel (very quick trip type stuff) ? I have a problem of running out of time in the day to eat 3 meals, so quite often I am forcing food down and trying to stay awake for the 2 hours after before going to bed. Any suggestions on how to handle this from shift workers? Big news is I am now down at least 2 pants sizes. I had to go and buy new jeans in the States as my old ones kept falling down at the most inappropriate times (crossing roads etc) !!! First time in about 20 years that I have actually had to go and buy pants smaller than the ones I am wearing, what a fantastic feeling. As you can see from my ticker I am now down to 101.6kgs, I am so looking forward to being under 100 and in double figures. I will have to shout myself to some reward, haven't thought of what yet, but I'm sure something will come up. Hi Flamie and Marc, thanks for stopping by, I appreciate your comments and look forward to following your journeys. I stop through Singapore about once a month so I will have to get some pointers off you for good places to buy salad type meals. Stay well. Mike |

Hi Mike,
How DID you go? Quote:

Edited later:- I'm pretty sure it is when timezones get "squished together" is the HARDEST to take - so, that would be when you are flying from East to West wouldn't it? Maybe it is simpler to keep YOUR WATCH set to the same time - and eat when the hours have passed. Specially when it is a "quick trip"..... It's mind-boggling stuff, Mike, as I'm sure you have found. If there is a "next time", maybe try going West to East - I believe it is kinder...... (Have I got it right? Hmm, not sure....) Still, the news seemed pretty good about the new jeans - wear the hell out of 'em, Mike, 'cos they'll be history in another 6 weeks or so Rock on, dude - and keep that smile on your face - you are doing fine, despite the "timezone problems", Koh

Thanks for your thoughts KOH about the travel, I have a lot of trips coming up so I will just have to try my best and see what happens.
To answer KOH's question, the end of week 4 and I can claim a 12.5kg loss overall, so I am stoked, all rolling along nicely. Mike |

Well it's been a long week, but I can at least say I am still with the program. I had a quick trip away to Japan and had problems getting the food I needed, my Japanese (all of three words) didn't help me, but I still managed to eat similar to the program. The worst thing I am finding right now is that when I am away the weight loss slows down or stagnates, so I guess I will just have to be patient and persevere.
So I am still hovering just above the 100kg mark and I am so wanting to bust through the barrier. The new jeans I bought the other week are now a little loose and I am on the last hole of my favourite belt, so I guess I will have to go shopping again soon !! My biggest problem now seems to be that my work can't supply uniform pants in time with my weight-loss, I will just have to order every second size on the way down I guess and just keep tightening the belt ! |
