Unhappy Bump In The Road

Hi! I am finally writing my first post. I have been on Cohens for just over 4 weeks now and I have lost about 7kgs. I have been finding it really really good and have noticed positive changes, not just in my body, but in my attitude and coping skills as well. All came crashind in around me when I had a slip last night. A lovely neighbour bought my kids a huge box of chocolates for Xmas and I had a few too many. I didn't even realise what I had done at first and then I couldn't stop the train. What will this do to all my hard work and results so far?? Can anyone tell me???

Hey Hope, welcome to the forums!
Firstly congratulations on your loss so far, 7kgs is a great achievement, you should be very proud of that
And the chocolates, my opinion is this... don't let one mistake throw you off the rails. Beating yourself up about it generally doesn't help, I know it doesn't me anyway. You need to acknowledge the deviation, maybe look at what caused you to do it, was there a particular trigger? and then most importantly, get up in the morning, and go back to life on the plan as usual.
You might struggle for a few days, cause you're going to be going through a bit of a detox again after all the sugar, but, you can get past it no problems, you did it before when you first started right? so, too easy
Yes, it will have an effect on your loss this week, but, you can't change that now, don't stress over things you can't control, concentrate on what you CAN control, which is what you do next!

Like anything, the effect is individual -- but it's unlikely to really affect you for more than a week. Chances are it's just going to slow your weight loss this week, but once your body gets rid of the sugar and the shock it gave your system, you should be right back on track. The best thing you can do is not dwell on it, or beat yourself up over it -- yes, it was a bad choice, but it's made now. It doesn't have to lead to you making other bad choices. I mean, I have a slightly odd outlook on so-called deviations anyway, but the way I see it? They can work for you in a way, in that they help us to realise that one bad choice does not in anyway justify making another bad food choice just because "the damage is already done." No, it's not. The true damage comes when we use one bad choice to justify another, and really, that's how maintenance falls apart. So...basically? Just go back on plan and write it off as a learning experience. But do learn from it. Why did you end up eating it? Because it was there? Make sure you haven't got other things lying around. Because you were hungry? Maybe look at chromium supplements. Because you felt deprived? Time to look again at the reasons why you're doing this and what you can gift yourself instead as a reward for doing well. Because seven kilos in four weeks IS doing really well. Keeping the faith is hard, I know, but you can do it. <3

Welcome and congratuations on your first 7kgs!!
Put that bump behind you, learn from it and just keep going forward!
In my exerperience once you have one chocolate it makes it harder to resist the 2nd one, better to avoid them altogether, makes for smoother sailing!

hang in there, it's all worth it!!

Congratulations on your losses to date, Hope. As you've discovered, this really does work and you now know and understand the benefits it will bring to you and your family. I agree with Louise. Even one is 'a few too many'. If you resolve to be 100% and avoid the first one it's then easy to avoid having any more.

I think Clarice has provided a comprehensive answer to your question. As Mark suggests, don't dwell on this but do take heed of the lesson and next time you will find it much easier to avoid the temptation.

Back again to do it all over again, starting from exactly the same weight as last time.
My health is not good and my doctor is predicting all sorts of nasty things if I don't lose weight.
What else do I do? I help people make money and I help people save money. Please take a look at http://www.acnlinks.clancie.com.au/
Back again for the support. Still think the diet and the forum are the best ever, but too old to do it again. Now losing again slowly on maintenance diet. Ticker shows next intermediate goal only (5 kilos).

Hi Hope,

Well, for starters, you can now vote here :-

Second, you've already received GREAT advice from many special people - the only bit I wanted to add was to "check out the Back on the Bus" thread to get a clearer view of how the body works to cope when you "Fall off the Bus". It may well help you and your resolve. Here's the link:-

Hey, what a great learning already - that bad food doesn't have you feeling too good. A nice one to learn early, and should make Maintenance easier to handle too.

Go hard, Hope,

Koh

And me? I'm a tall skinny-ish bloke (BMI ~25.5) and have been this way forever, so I haven't faced (weight-wise) what you all have !!

Thanks to eveyone that left encouraging messages. It helps ALOT!!

I have just survived 4 days on holidays with the family. I took along my scales and was very organised and prepared and took my food where ever we went. It got a but tough watching everyone enjoying the local bakery and icecreamery, but I rewarded myself with a lovely necklace instead of deviating.

I am feeling tempted all the time at the moment, but with all the Chrissy celebrations going on that's probably not surprising.

Haven't weighed in for ages and can't wait until the office reopens.

Have a great Chrissy everyone and stay 100% Cohens!!!
