Cool Night Sweats

OK.. NO I am NOT menopausal.. had a test done etc so this is NOT the reason I am having night sweats..

When I eat carbs, THAT night I wake up in a horrid sweat.. I mean to the point that my PJ's are drenched & so is the bed.. I don't have this at all if I eat just Cohen friendly foods..

Any ideas as to why anyone? Does anyone else experience this? Perhaps it's a question for my doctor.. It's weird as & annoying as hell.

I have the last few nights, not from eating carbs though.
Just thought my bed was too warm?

Weird

Interesting that one. I am on HRT and thought my dosage had to be increased AGAIN. But now that I have read your post, I think it is actually just since I have been off COHEN per say, and eating carbs again. I wake up drenched as well, and it has been quite cold here, I need warm PJ's and more than one duvet at night. ( We are currently running at about 4deg C at night ( 40deg F)
Coming to think about it I have been tired at night again, having to have a nap before I start dinner..the evil carbs yet again. Weight has been pretty stable but I suppose that will not stay like that if I don't turn on brakes with Carbs!!!!!
I will keep a close eye on that one and this thread. Will let u know. Thanks for making me feel less old ( even if it is for a while)

Yeah it is weird Shell.. cause I could be cold, freezing cold too, but I'd still sweat really bad..

Bibabs.. it's extremely odd.. I haven't had any carbs all week & NO night sweats.. My consultant mentioned that she was going to send an email to Dr Cohen probably next week & ask him what he thinks... It's no coincidence, that much I do know.. I've been making notes of the days I eat carbs & the nights I suffer with night sweats & they all match up.. it's the almost burning sensation under my skin that concerns me the most.. will let you know if I learn any more.

OK I have a bit of a theory here.

Having PCOS I know that excess insulin acts on the pituitary gland and causes an excess of testosterone production. This could affect the way your hormones function and create menopause symptoms in you as you are sensitive to it.

High carbs can produce a lot of insulin and maybe it is acting on the pituitary and causing a mini menopause as you have been off carbs for so long.

Just a theory based on what I know of carbs, insulin and testosterone.

Default its not just you gals !!!!

Last weekend in Toowoomba I froze - back 1 kg on Monday then on Mon Tue Wed & Thurs - ate all sorts of stuff - cheese nuts and dried figs - then chocolate - Thursday and extra fruit - this morning up 3 kg - but woke up on fire and I was so hot I thought I was sick and had a cracker of a head ache - showing a bloated and pot belly - so today 100 % Cohen s - Day one stuff back 500 grams tonight so not real worried - I was playing and enjoying but testing - but very hot this morning - no sign of flue etc so similar - it must be carbs - causeing body to "heat up"

or just the male version maybe - but I was very hot this morning - full on sweating like a fever - my wife was cold and I thought she had the electric blanket on - but it was off.

Smile Simplistic eating !!!!

This morning I have lost 1.3 kg overnight - I also drank 6 liters yesterday and got up 5 times in the night - you can jam the carbs.......... up a hollow log !!!!!!! I am enjoying my second day of pure plan ......... I missed it .........only 24 days off it but its a real pleasure and good to just go back to the simplistic side of life really.

I can't agree with you more Andy... Day 6 for me without them & I'm feeling awesome.. I'm still craving them a bit but it's getting easier day by day.. I just can't afford to give in to them, even a little.. there's no such thing for me.. even a little turns in to a massive binge.. plus being up all night sweating & having that burning skin sensation.. the other thing I remembered is that when I eat them my glands in my throat swell.. so I feel all fat in the throat.. LOL.. not so nice..

I'm sticking to the plan during the week, with an extra piece of fruit & maybe an extra crispbread & then on weekends I'm doing various different days from re-feed, till I feel more in control.. not only on the scales but in my head too..
I also seem to be suffering just a little from the burning sensation under the skin.. each day it gets better, but if it doesn't go completely in a week I might have to see the doctor about it.

This is interesting Faithy. Yesterday I had too many carbs and not enought vegetables. I didn't have dinner because I was so full (from chips and potato cakes!) Last night we went to a friends and I had a glass of wine and nothing to eat because I was so bloated.

Today I felt like I had a temperture and headache. I know it wasn't the wine because I only sipped it over 3 hours.

I have also had a night when I felt really hot during the night and actually mentioned it to my husband because I normally feel so cold. I am not sure what I had to eat that day but now I am thinking too many carbs could have been the cause.

Something to monitor in the future.

Tuti

I have just realised something else, Carbs do not only make me hot and bothered, they also cause " restless leg syndrome" for sure. That is when you feel like something is crawling inside your legs, like on the bones, a lame uncomfortable irritable crawly feeling. Makes you want to shake your legs to get rid of it. Anybody else out there like that????

Smile on the outside or inside of your bone !!!!

Bibabs -----never ... but someone on a different forum board told me once it could be the hand cream or face cream you use that does that as well !!!!!!

......... just shake a leg !!!!!!!!!

Remember !!!!!!!! ........your on the outer now !!!!!!

Is it inside your bone or on the outside ????? of your skin.

Nice one Andy!!!
It is actually a REAL condition, and it IS called Restless Leg Syndrome. The feeling is similiar to when you ride a bike when you are not fit, and get off it. (That shaky feeling) just it is experienced closer to the bone ( not the muscle so much)

Thumbs down ...and not the face cream!!!!

........ well at least its not the face cream you have been using by the sound of that ....... and well I do understand that push bike feeling ......that sorta up and down thing .....when you over pedal......and all that.

All good - yes have heard of it and have goggled it but have never had it - luckily - sounds very annoying as well.

Hope it goes away for you mate and all gets better !!

Well I got my reply from Dr Cohen.. LOL.. heaps to say.. Sever insulin (carb) sensitivity.

So basically it's been suggested to me to either cut carbs out for a bit longer or add only small amounts & make sure they're low GI.. basically anything with sugar for me is a no no for a while longer.. I'm extremely prone to putting weight on VERY quickly with carbs.. I'm not talking 1 or 2 kilos.. I'm talking LOTS.. but it comes off just as quick as it goes on.. but the thing I DO worry about is my health.. it can't be good for my body to fluctuate SO MUCH between weights in such a short period of time.. so now it's up to me to take ownership of this & be responsible.. Having my insulin levels go through the roof from just one meal is NOT good for me..

Hi Faithy,

I have only been having carbs once a week and I have not missed them at all yet. LOL

The only carbs I am having is in the natural food I am eating-fruit, veg, yogurt (sparingly) eggs etc.

I am also trying other fruit other than apples, only having one (apple) late afternoon/after tea, to see if that helps with the weight because of the natural sugar, as I was having 2-3 apples a day!

DAMN THOSE CARBS!!!

Yip, I am still waiting for my reply.. but it happened again last night. I had biece of Lemon Meringue pie late yesterday afternoon, and oh boy, did I wake up drenched to the skin!!!! BAD NEWS BAD BAD NEWS that.
At least my weight gain is not that dramatic, but still the inconvenience, now it seems I sweat from sugar and swell up from wheat!!! what a combination.
And then we don't even talk about the effects of the face cream Andy!!!

This thread is so interesting as I too am sufferring from sweating at night and losing sleep. Normally I am a cold fish and have the electric blanket up but now it's low to off. Most nights I wake at 2am and often not back to sleep till 3.30. Doing wonders for my moods and tolerance at school and home!! Especially when DH is snoring contentedly beside me!!
I will keep track of foods and sweats too but have started taking herbal menopause gear as well as that helped prior to Cohen's. Mine I think is menopausal but maybe affected by carbs, especially alcohol.

Interesting that so many of us are feeling the same and in winter too. Maybe refeeds needs to be adjusted? A slower introduction of carbs.

Some food for thought.
About 4 yrs ago I embarked on an eating plan by Peter D'damo called Eat Right For Your Type. It is based on one's Bloodgroup, and specifies which foods are good or bad for which bloodgroups. This was more for general health than weightloss. Whilst on that I realised that I had a wheat allergy, which was one of the foods I was suposed to eliminate.
After about 2 yrs, I eventually stopped, because it just became too expensive and cumbersome. I promise you the effects of wheat on my body AFTER the abstinance was just SO much more dramatic than before. It is almost as if you react more violently after being without it for a long time.

I suppose it is almost like when you get desensitised for Allergens like bee stings etc. They introduce the allergen slowlly, and your body gets used to it, so I suppose the opposite must apply as well.
On Cohen we eliminate carbs for at least 3-4months depending on the individual. I believe that is long enough to clear the system, so when it is re introduced and your body does have an underlying problem, it is going to react more severely.
Just shows you COHEN taught us to listen to our bodies.

Ok now there is a novel for you to have read, hope I did not put you to sleep
