Default Exercise and (no) weight loss - link to an excellent article

Hi folks

I mentioned some time ago an article in the magazine of the Weekend Australian, and apparently it was in the New York Magazine as well, here's the link:

http://nymag.com/news/sports/38001/

It's fantastic!

Right on, Shell !! Bump indeed !!! This is GOLD (and a wake-up call)

I think I'll add a link to THIS thread from the "to exercise or not" thread.

I've often wondered HOW someone 30Kg or more overweight could even CONTEMPLATE exercise. How much more pressure on knees, back, other joints, even the heart, would there be?

So much SAFER to use this program (Cohens) to get the weight off, THEN exercise for health. First things first.

I spent one winter power walking 3 hours a day for 3 months and lost 0 kilos. I always knew that for me exercise had nothing to do with weight loss. Thanks for the link.

That is incredible. After years of grinding in the gym, and four weeks on Cohens, the relationship between food/exercise/weight is clear to me now...we have to undo decades of brain washing.

I calculated that to achieve my losses since my Cohen weigh-in through exercise alone, I would have to do three and half hours of stairmaster A DAY, if I wanted to lose thru exercise alone!

HI every one, well i once was an exercise nut and loved it. It used to work for me when i was younger. When i was 30 and had put on weight i remember doing a 3 month body blitz all exercise and i worked so hard every day, stuck to it and you know what i did not lose 1 kg. Nothing worked for me until i did Cohens and i was amazed that other than taking my dogs for a walk i sat in the chair not doing much exercise and i lost 13kg. Wow.

But i have to say now 2years later, that i do love going for a walk, it makes you feel healthier just walking in the fresh air, i just got a new treadmill but i am going to used it but not until i lose at least 5kg

I want to lose the weight that i have to lose and then do exercise just for my mind and to make me feel fit. Also to tone up.

Well that is my plan - here is hoping it works quickly.

Gary Taubes, the author of the linked article, is very interesting. Has anyone read any of his books?

What I'm interested in, is could you follow an eating plan similar to what he recommends post-Cohen?

He had an article in a recent copy of the US version of Reader's Digest. I was intrigued, especially as I started Cohen's.

I'm down about 37 of my 60 pounds and starting to ponder maintaining my future weight.

It was certainly a fascinating read - I think I understand a bit more why previous attempts at killing myself in the gym were fruitless!

Hi Collie,

It simply means "to make a new post, which brings it off page 7 or 8 and onto page 1, so that others see it again".

Rather than typing all that, we often just say "bump" - as we bump it onto the front page,
