Default Lessfatty's Diaries

Name: Less Fatty
Rank: Corporate IT Drone
Sex: Male
Age: 39
Status: Married, 2 daughters 10 and 7.
Location: Tokyo
Starting Weight: 123KG
Starting Day: 30-July-2006
Program: Cohen first personal diet internet program, US$226 for 12 weeks
Reason for Start: Absolutely hated the way I looked and my "boobs" stuck out and was feeling generally run-down. Enough was enough I was NOT going to turn 40 and be fat. I may turn 40 being stupid, ugly and poor, but I was not going to turn 40 being stupid, ugly, poor, fat and sick!
Also my elder sister has type-2 diabeties and if I didnt do anything about my weight I would almost certainly have "attracted" this condition

Current Weight: 92.7KG
As of : 29-Nov-2006
Avg Loss: 7.57KG/Month

Default Ready for Refeed

Wow I cannot believe it, today I weighed in at 91.9KG , so from Dr Cohen weight profile for me I am 1.9KG from my ideal weight and hence I could order and start the refeed process!

However when I look at my body in the mirror the answer is to ordering the reefeed is "No". I am simply not slim nor trim; quite a significant amount of belly fat and "boobs" remain to be lost. However the good news is old "spare" tire tummy has been completely deflated, I am starting to redevelop multiple "rolls" of fat rather than one huge one.

Dont worry I havent got distorted body image or anything; I think more or less I am now at the borderline between a "normal" weight range and being "overweight"; today my waist is 97cm...so still far from my goal of 90cm waist. The range of 76~88KG is considered normal from Australian and Canadian medical guidelines for guys 187cm tall, and I think the low 80's represent my ideal body shape, I dont really have a lot of rippling ripped muscles under my fat waiting to be defined.

LF, are you listing your crispbreads?

And, you seem light on fruit... Is that because you ate the rest at snack time and haven't included it?

Default mushi mushi i want sushi!

You've got me interested now...
Posting your meals and the like - with your daily weight loss - I'm considering it I think.

I guess the daily weighing goes against my belief, but I'd only weigh daily for scientific purposes good or bad - it's a good way to gauge loss compared to menu/intake.

Does anyone know a free online weight program where you can record your daily weight to track and graph loss?

Where are you from originally? Japan must be amazing, that's one place on my wishlist. To be immersed in the Japanese culture would be so much fun! (I think the Greek Islands are m next trip).

I weigh daily, I am not fussed if my weight increases because as sure as the sun rises in the east if I stick with Cohen I will lose fat every day and that WILL 100% certainly will at some point in the future register on the scales, I just look forward to days like today when my weight drops to a new low point.

I dont know any free online weigh program tracking, but it is a good idea to make one (if I had more time).

I am Australian but I have lived in Tokyo for 10 years. I dont mind living in Japan but to be honest WORKING in japan is not fun; legalized salvery would be close to the mark ...there are high commitment expectations and stupid work practices that as a westerner I find it very stressful to conform with.

Default noooo!

ewwwwwwwww you drink Starbucks?! gerrrrrrrrross! That company is an evil virus. Can't escape them in New York. Was a terrible shame to see.

Surely Japan has something better to offer! I can't belive SB has made it's way into Japan!!!

Western Australis is lucky. We don't have them. And I seriously hope we never do. Wouldn't mind a krispy kreme over here mind you

I would love to speak Japanese. I did it in primary school and picked it up really well. I adore the culture... the weird and wonderful.

Mmmmm you surely would have access to the best sushi! So what's the weirdest thing you've seen in a vending machine?!

If it's not fun, why do you do it? Do you see it being your home forever?

Sorry I know it's off topic - hope you don't mind.

I really like Starbucks, firstly and most importantly above all things; it is smoke free! Startbucks could serve black dirt mixed with hot water and I would choose it over other Japanese coffee shops that 2nd hand smoke heaven! Acutally a Japanese coffee shop eg Doutor is basically a place for smokers to rest (out of the heat in summer or cold in winter) and have a smoke, the cofee (which is crap) is just the payment/ticket to sit down.

Secondarly I think generally the product is better than "most" shops serving coffee. I was in Western Australia a few years ago, I had 12 or so coffees lattes during that time (airport, resturants, shopping centers) and only 2 would have been better than Starbucks and another 3 about the same and the other 7 or so were made from cheap robusta beans by staff and vendors who could care less. The two coffees that were clearly better where clearly better for a reason...the shop owner made is living selling coffee and hence CARED about the product, I am very sure my coffee was made by the owner of the shop.

Starbucks business model of course is not actually about coffee, the talk and image is about "quality coffee" etc is just to create an image (image="self deception"); the winning business model is to provide a 3rd place; a place between work and between home in which a person can relax. This is why particularly for non-smokers starbucks is a hit in Japan and most big cities, it provides a place people can go and relax a little. If I lived in WA, I wouldnt be sitting around in a starbucks I would be at the beach, having a BBQ or riding my bike or drinking better coffee from a owner/operator coffee shop .

In regard to Japan.

I love japan and Japanese (I am married to one, and my children ARE japanese), however working in Japan a salaryman is very different.

Honestly dont look in Vending machines much...there is nothing I want that could possibly come from a vending machine But Japanese love vending machines. What I find is that vending machines are just everywhere, even in the middle of a country road you will find a vending machine.

Hi lessfatty

Congatulations on losing 32 kilos and achieving your Marriage Weight!

I'll bet you though you'd never see this weight again. How many diets, how many attempts to 'lose a couple of kilos' and whoomp! Suddenly, you have lost 32 kilos.

Lots of pats on the back for this.

But as you can see from the last week or so, deviations really do matter.

One mouthful of something - that glass of wine you shared with your friend a few weeks ago, for example, the body can tolerate.

But random meals plus sake plus more random meals, and your liver doesn't know if it's Arthur or Martha!

OK, so you're going on holiday. Holiday does not translate to Pig Out!

You have been on plenty of 'diets' before, and know how easy it is to excuse falling off the wagon.

Oops! Oh, well, it doesn't matter, it's holidays / New Year / whatever. Surely you don't want those 32 kilos back again? Not after all that explaining to Mrs Lessfatty?

Be care full of yourself during your holidays. You are worth being care full about.

Not long to go now, then refeed, then after a few months you will see that moderation is the key to that new, youthful, you, the one without 'man boobs', remember, the one who looks and feels years younger.

Have a lovely holiday. Don't pig out. Come back and finish the program, do the refeed, and enjoy the rest of your life as a slim, elegant person.

Best wishes,

Kristine

Thanks Kristine, I wil be carefull over the next 3 weeks. This week was interesting to have a few devations to see the effect, => big time water retention, which means my body DID NOT LIKE IT AT ALL, thus if had more deviations and had some starches....I am sure I will see rapid weight gain! There will be no pigouts even in Europe, but actually I found that a little bit more makes me feel very full, particular the rice I had at Sushi resturant. So a pigout now seems like one drink at a bit of rice. Mrs lessfatty didnt want to go if I was going to be fussy about every meal...fair enough, going to paris and not having a nice meal would be sad for her. I will just be flexible and try my best to fit my diet to the menu at hand.

So low starches, cohen breakfast.

I have even prepared just one meal to eat on the flight over

So only dinner tomorrow will be non-cohen.

Big day tomorrow, drive 80KM to tokyos airport which is in another state. Fly to London 14 hours, 2 commuter trains in rush hour to Waterloo, Eurostar to Paris, Taxi to hotel....But I will wake up with a view of the Eiffel tower

I just have a regular quality japan made soy sauce, it is not Cohen listed foods. I cannot say I noted any effect of having soy-sauce or not on my weight loss. I believe it doesnt have an effect on my weight loss, it is high in salt but also in the and precursor amino-acids Tryptophan which is very good for Seretonin production...so overall I think it is neither good nor bad in moderation. However Cohen diet doesnt allow it so I cannot recommend it as a deviation.
