Default Things That Slow Down Weight Loss

Hi Everyone,

I just thought Id start a thread about what different people on Cohens may find slows down their weight loss.

This thread comes after a couple of weeks of pretty slow weight loss for me. I have done a few eliminations and have narrowed it down to it definately being cheese and also yoghurt. Must be the lactose or something in the dairy products.

Now that I have eliminated yoghurt and cheese, im getting consistant daily losses of between .2 and .3 and this is only a few days after quitting the yoghurt. Before, when I was eating the yoghurt, I was only losing .1 (if i was lucky) every second day or so.

I'd be interested to know of anything else that may effect others weight loss.

Nat

You know Nat....

I only just realised that my body did that after I began yoghurt too.....

I never made that connection before.... When I ate egg for bfast I lost much faster... Wow... Thanks for that..something to think about...

I notice water... If I don't drink enough water (which for me has to be 3.25 ltrs per day) then my weight loss slows.... any more then that it slows and any less than that...same thing....

Excellent topic Nat

Not enough sleep definatley slowed my weight loss right down - not that I did it fast or anything.

Getting used to routine, you know egg and veg for breakfast, chicken and veg for lunch, lean red meat and veg for dinner, cracker with meal , fruit in between.

I had to change the order of my measl to get a kick start, red met and veg for breakie, chicken and veg for lunch, egg for dinner.

I also found at one stage I had to exceed 5 hours.

Daily weighing!! Some days it will go up!!

Stick to the tape measure.

Cheese also slowed down my loss.

I stopped cheese except for my weekly allowance of Feta Cheese. Saturday lunchtimes were a nice healthy greek salad. They didn't seem to have any impact on the weight loss.

Yoghurt didn't have the same effect, I don't think. I might go back and review my spreadsheets to see if there was any slowdown after Yoghurt days.

hmmm.... my weight loss progress throughout the entire programme (apart from 1st mth) has been pretty moderate and i was having yoghurt almost everyday! not sure if this was the reason! however, i find having stewy stuff like beef stew could cause me to gain some weight... it's hard to pin point in terms of food. but for sure, the lack of BM and TOM slow weight loss...

I was slightly surprised to see that yogurt has a slowing down effect of weight loss. Hmm maybe I can try Mushroom Omelette for a change?

I have already eaten more than 5 1kg tubs of yogurt since January, so maybe I need a change soon too. But I like yogurt

If it helps - for my first month, I had neither cheese (well only briefly) and yoghurt and I think I lost a lot of weight (considering how much overall I had to lose). Went home, and replaced egg for yoghurt for breakfast, and also had some cheese (at least 3 meals for the week) and didn't lose any weight. Although I think there were other extenuating circumstances too like stress, eating out (although Cohen-friendly) etc.. but it's something to keep in mind.

I think I will go back to my daily egg for breakfast, and either chicken calamari or beef for my other meals because that was good for me.

what does it mean by egg for breakfast? Is it like just one hardboiled egg?

you can prepare egg anyway you want it. I usually have mushroom omelette or spinach omelette.. or if I'm feeling lazy, yeah I'd have hard boiled egg with cabbage or cucumber.

Divine - I didn't have any dressing then! I had no access to balsamic vinegar or low fat mayo. Wow, I was so deprived on my first month but I learnt to enjoy the taste of even raw cabbage! I did find some vinegar in the local store but it's the cheap kind that you use to clean out fish. I tried it on my cabbage and wanted to gag. haha.

But seriously, I used to avoid cabbage, raw or cooked before Cohen's. Now I enjoy it. I think I posted a recipe on coleslaw once.

Sometimes I mashed my egg into like an egg salad type (but had no mayo!!) and ate it with crackers (when I had crackers - I ran after a few weeks! They only have cheap cream crackers here).

Now, I have cheese, yoghurt (only two meals left), balsamic vinegar, etc... but need to not get too excited and overdo it!

Laura?? My programme says that curry powder is allowed - as long as you choose those without preservatives?? Yikes.

I was taking psyllium husk to aid in fiber intake, and discovered they slowed down my weight loss considerable, also if I drink too much water, ie over 4.5 litres that also slows me down. TOM brings everything to a screaming holt and even put weight on. I haven't noticed any problem with yoghurt though, and generally only have cheese once a week if that.

I have yoghurt almost every day and I think my weight losses have been OK. If they slow down I'll switch to egg, but yogurt is a damned sight easier in the morning.

Curry powder is allowed as long as it doesn't contain (1) fenugreek (2) anti-caking agent e.g. rice powder. I mixed my own as I couldn't find one.
