Default Salad Dressings

Hi Cohennites!

Was wondering what all you Cohennites out there use as dressings? I'm out of ideas and am looking for a little variety

Thanks!!

Well, that's a hard one, given we're restricted on oil.

What I like with spinach or rocket is a bit of sea salt and a bit of olive oil spray (I reckon if I don't' use the oil in the pan to fry, then I can have that on the salad instead). Trying to get back to the simple things. Must be good native and cold pressed extra virgin oil.

Or: put apple vinegar into shaker with sweetener, bit of freshly ground pepper and sea salt, maybe a drop of olive oil, shake well. Problem here: sweetener, as you would still be catering for your sweet tooth rather than training your taste buds.

As with all these things, I think quality is important. Everything (incl pre-made dressings) taste kind of nice with crap ingredients if you just add some oil and loads of sugar. However, that's why I like the simple spray of olive oil and salt mix the best. That's how Italians dress their salads, they don't really use balsamic vinegar all that much. So if all the ingredients are good, that will taste of summer. There are some lovely Australian Olive Oils around which smell and taste of freshly mowed lawn (I know this might put some of you off, but I think they are great).

I found even my family now really likes the simplicity of a spray of oil, and later, when off Cohens, a drizzle of olive oil with a squeeze of lemon, salt, pepper, done!

I sometimes take my mayonaise allowance - 1 tsp of low fat mayo and mix it with lemon juice (from fruit allowance) and
some salt and pepper. Can make a good colslaw type dressing. (You could even add a dash of diet sprite.)

It is nice on seafood and a nice crea,my tastes sensation.
