Shoe Size?
Hi everyone
Can anyone explain to me why your shoe size is one of the determining factors when finding out your optimum weight? Seems strange to me. Zammitt |

I don't really know, Zammit, but have assumed that it is an indication of your bone structure (heavy, medium, light), which would be a significant contributor to final weight.

Back again to do it all over again, starting from exactly the same weight as last time. My health is not good and my doctor is predicting all sorts of nasty things if I don't lose weight. It is an interesting question, especially as our feet 'flatten' out i.e. the arches fall, as we age.
I was always a size 6 - 6.5 until I hit my 30's, and am now somewhere around a 7 - 7.5 !! So, I also assume it's to do with bone structure... but wonder whether your age then also plays a role...??!!! curious !!

It's pretty much as AJ says.. bone structure etc.. The reason your shoe size may be bigger Ruby is because you have put on weight? I went up one to 2 shoe sizes when I put on weight & as I lost it my shoe size went down, as did my goal weight

Hi Faithy,
May be an obvious explanation (being overweight), but my feet didn't shrink when I was at 56kg (my current goal weight)!! I'm pretty sure that our feet do flatten out though - or perhaps this is a genetic quirk which only affects some, and not all...? Cheers,

Flatten out, maybe, Ruby, but that's likely to affect width rather than length. For them to be longer, our bones would need to lengthen, or more flesh on the toes and heels, as happens when we gain weight. I've just discovered I've dropped 1 1/2 sizes, and am back to the size I was when young. My feet are certainly flatter, I usually wear orthotics, but not longer.
