Question Ostrich..meat or chicken allowance?

Hi..need some help. I never really thought abt it until today. I have been having ostrich as part of my poultry allowance but i realised that even though it's poultry, it's actually considered as 'red' meat...so...do i weigh it as part of my chicken or meat allowance??

Talking Count as chicken

Hi Fair Rose!

Never fear, you are right. In my book from the clinic it clearly states that ostrich is part of the poultry section and should be weighed as such.

Good thing too, because on my diet, that means a little more for me!

everyone has a differnet blood analysis and therefore we are given a program to suit our INDIVIDUAL needs and types......therefore all programs have the same foods allowed just different quantities depending on the DR's assessment of the bloods....

Thanks, I never even thought of asking if oistrich is chicken or meat, sort of assumed it was a red meat and belonged in the game meat section.
The list I got had chicken, meat & game.
Does anybody know about partridge, pheasant and venison?

Thanks, Jacqueline

G'Day

My meat protein list is:

Red Meat:
* Beef
* Veal
* Kangaroo

Poultry:
* Chicken (breast only)
* Turkey (breast only)

and various Fish

I feel left out! No Ostrich or Game on my program! Us Aussies have been shortchanged!

fair rose - you will have to ask your consultant to make sure that you don't deviate by putting the ostrich in the wrong paddock!

Cheers
Kristine

LOL Kristine...I don't think it really matters anymore. It was listed in my poultry section though so i won't go on any technicalities
Btw....maybe we can swap some roo for ostrich?? Ostrich is yummy....Very tender and actually tastes more like meat than chicken(but the it's red meat after all) I will call it 'Freak' poultry
