You sound like I did 2 months ago...

Listen I saw the testimonials and thought.... "Yeah, right."

Here's what I had tried before...

weight watchers (lost 30 odd kilos all back on again)
reductil (appetite suppressant)
soup diet
lean cusines
Lite n easy prepared/delivered food
jenny craig
gloria marshall
personal life coaching
optifast
ultra slim


Not only did none of them work..... but each one of them worked to erode my confidence in myself and the weight kept creeping on...the scales kept going up and up and so did my clothes sizes. And myself esteem kept going down down down ....
I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me.....Why couldn't I stick to a diet?? I wanted to lose the weight so badly....why couldn't I do it?

I tried weight watchers again and the first 2 weeks I gained weight....despite the fact that i was exercising and following the plan...

I think that was when I gave up...

I went to the Cohens info seminar... I heard it all... and I kept thinking through the whole thing...

"Yeah right." "God, I can't live without bread." "I'm wasting $680."

I heard them say that willpower has little or nothing to do with losing weight and I thought

"Nothing works for me." "I don't know how I'll be able to go without chips/bread etc."


I promised myself a week.....I actually thought..." I can handle being miserable/hungry for a week."

I also knew that I had some appetite suppressants left in the cupboard in case things got too tough...

The first day was a big change..... and I was a little hungry to be honest, but only in the morning....
I didn't need the tablets...
The second day was slightly easier.... a headache and some shakiness in the afternoon...
I didn't need the tablets
The third day was easier still.... I wasn't hungry and I wasn't craving food...

By the end of my first week.... I went for a weigh in......

I'd lost 4.8kgs in a week!!!!!!

What??? really... but it was so easy? and no exercise...

Second week... I did the same thing... Kept the appetite suppressants in the cupboard waited to get hungry...waited for the novelty to wear off....Lost over 3kgs that week...

OMG over 7kgs in 2 weeks.... NEVER had that happened to me!!!

I threw away the tablets..... and all the optifast crap I had and got rid of the lean cusines in the freezer... I knew right there that I had found the answer!

It has been 2 months and almost one week....and I've lost 18.9kgs...

NEVER did I think I could...... I'm the girl who would eat 2 value meals from Maccas in one sitting... I would crave potato chips... I loved mayo and chicken on white bread.... I loved thick butter on bread... I craved these foods....

No cravings since I started.... Oh I've had hankerings for food.... but feeling like somehting and feeling like I HAVE to have something are two different things......

Oh and my age and weight? I'm 33 and my starting weight was 133.6kgs... Last weigh in I was 114.7...


Shrink me... this is the best decision you will ever make...and the last time you will ever lose weight...

I believe in you.... Hold on.... your dreams are about to come true!!!

Hi i am new to this.I started the program in november last year n i have lost 16 kilo in 2 months. my problem is i lost 10.5 in the first month n 5.5 in the second. I know that is still a good loss but i thought it would be the same ish each month. Well thats what i was told. I am eating the same foods so i havent strayed at all. i wonder if anyone else has come up against this.

sha22y, rest assured you are doing great. The loss in the 2nd and subsequent months are less than the 1st month. A loss of 16kgs in 8 weeks is awesome. For much of my programme I was losing on average 5-7 kgs / month. Keep up the good work.

Hi Sha22y,
You are doing really well, that is 2 kilo's a week! Which is great.
Try mixing up the order you have your meals eg: meal 2 or 3 for breakfast, meal 1 for tea- that can help.
Also try some day's without tomato & onion if you are eating these things- sugar in them.
I started in August last year, and am down to 74.5kg (loss of 36.5kg), with a few hiccups along the way, I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel! Just over 10 kg to go.

I have been reading heaps on this forum and have found it very interesting. I have just contacted Cohen's down south and have asked Bronwyn to send me all the information. It's funny I have been like you and tried (i always convince myself) the best diets / new way of life / lifestyle change / new eating habbit etc (I could go on) around.

SureSlim
Tony Ferguson
Dieticians
Hipnosis
Reductile (which did help in conjunctions with some of the others alittle)
and probably a couple of others I have deliberately forgotten.
I could only ever loose 10kg and then I fall off the wagon - as they say.
You are the first forum that I have read that has made some sense.
Like you every time I didn't make it to "goal" my confidence dropped. My dress size got bigger and the ability to look at my self in the mirror diminished.
I like you couldn't work out what was wrong with me - I gave up smoking after smoking for too many years to count (still not smoking after 5 nearly 6 years), so If I could do that why couldn't I lose weight? Why couldn't I stick to it? I was desparate to lose and never find the weight again. My Mother (one of my worse - hardest critics) could do it and loved to inform me of the fact. I needed to do this for me and my kids. I had breast cancer 3 years ago (in July lump finding anniversary) and put on even more weight with the chemo, I survived that but still couldn't stick to any diet. I am now very close to being diabetic and also it is proven that exercise and weight lose assist in keeping the cancers at bay. Never want to go through that again. but still can't stick to a "diet".
Then I came across a lovely man at a training course I attended and he had lost 85 kg in something like 28 weeks and he told me about Cohen's. Well I went home and the next chance I got I looked it up to the net and then the next day rang. I know it is very similar to sureslim and till I get the diet etc I want know how similar it is but Bronwyn informed me It's the better.
I know hope & pray that this is the final one the one I can get over that 10kg barrier etc. I think this forum will help - I hope and as soon as I get a starting weight, tickler thingy, diet sheets etc I will start my own diary - which will also be a first for me as I have never added to anything like this before.
Oh my age is 42yrs & at the moment my weight is 107.9kg (and I am only 165cm tall) - I read somewhere in this forum that shorter people lose weight slower does anyone know why????Just my luck.

It is a bit counter-productive to conjecture just HOW quick you may/may not lose the extra, JM. Suffice to say that it seems Cohens has "cracked the nut" to provide THE QUICKEST way safely. Many factors affect one's weight-loss - age, sex, starting weight, "age of fat", etc. etc. There really are MANY variables.

I don't recall a "shorter people losing slower" post, so can't comment. So let me just say YOUR body will drop those extra Kgs at the rate that is right for your body. How fast? Hehe - well it seems MOST are able to lose from 1 to 1.5Kg per week (or a dress size per month). Will that be you? Hmm - hehe, you tell me once you are "on the road" - still 1 - 1.5 Kg per week is a pretty rapid way to put it behind you. Especially when you consider that (after the first "detox" week) things just seem to get better and better. Just be sure to be free of deviations (stay off the wine, etc.) to lose it as fast as possible.

Good for you on your decision, JM - I'm sure you won't regret it

I've been dieting off and on for 40 years, JensMum, and have lost count of all the diets I've tried. For the first time I believe that not only will I reach my goal, but I believe I will be able to maintain it. The food tastes great, tasty and healthy, and this forum is such a help for support and encouragement.

Started 11/1/08. Lowest weight reached 63.8 kgs on 10/11/08 and 40 kgs down. Thank you Dr Cohen.
Back again to do it all over again, starting from exactly the same weight as last time.
My health is not good and my doctor is predicting all sorts of nasty things if I don't lose weight.

Back again for the support. Still think the diet and the forum are the best ever, but too old to do it again. Now losing again slowly on maintenance diet. Ticker shows next intermediate goal only (5 kilos).

my starting weight and height are similar to yours (i am 166cm, and i have NEVER been thought of as short!!!)
i had a great loss for the first week and i continue to believe that i will lose my weight swiftly and safely and most of all MAINTAIN it FOREVER!

Hey Everyone,

My name is Tamika and I am about to start Cohen's and hopefully (fingers crossed) this is going to change my life.

Well a littlebit about me ...... I am 23, am married to a very beautiful man who I adore I am a midwife and well its really about time I become a new me.

I am currently hovering around the 100kg mark and have put on around 25 kgs since 2003 and have been increasing my girth LOL for probably the last 4 years or so. Not to dwell, however I had a few medical problems including some major bowel surgery and a few family emotional problems. I am a self confessed emotional eater and in those dark months/years food became my happy place.

I feel like I was ALWAYS the bigger girl in my group of friends, however when I look back at photo's now I think how lovely I looked back then - how funny how your perception changes.

My husband and I have booked a 6 and a half week around the world holiday in October and I have finally decided to do this for me aswell as I really want to be fit and healthy on our trip of a life time and then think about having a baby.

I have tried so many different "diets" including Weight Watches, Tony Ferguson, Reductil etc etc and somehow it just hasn't worked for me.

I also have just recently sustained a back injury and therefore can't excercise.

I am having my blood test tomorrow and hopefully everything will be looking up from there. I really feel commited and that it is time for all my excess weight to go. I am fascinated at how people loose weight so quickly and their body appears to snap back into shape with little or no 'wobbley' bits. I'm really looking forward to going on this journey!!!

Hi guys, I am currently considering joining the program and have been interested to read all your comments. I like the thought of a quick weight loss as I find this very motivational. I have tried sureslim in the past and this sounds very similiar. I am wondering if anyone can comment on what might make this different

Hi Louise,

I know there are several in a similar situation..... "Shell" is one who springs to mind, but I know there are many others (just can't bring them to mind right now). And there are some up your way (can't think of names - but hey, check out the "get-together" forum - I KNOW someone from up your way was posting, trying to find others in the same area).

Check out some diaries - usually in their first diary post, people tell you "where they are" so you can choose to read further when THEY are also "remote".

Or, start your own diary (if you haven't already) !! Mention in there about your situation (many read them, though don't always reply - there are so many these days). I'm sure that any others reading of your concerns re "correspondence" will chime in to help especially where THEY have faced the same.....

We are a happy helpful bunch - so jump in, then sit back and watch - I'm sure you will find many spring to help,

Hi Louise,

I didn't even meet my consultants till probably more than half way through the program.
They are 2.5 hour away from where I live.
Did it mostly through e-mails & phone calls.

I must say though. I was extremely glad I found this forum!
It has helped me enormously, when I couldn't in contact with my clinic.

So I would go for it!!!

Hi Shell,

I must say you have done really well, especially as you did it all from a distance! How often did you have contact? I keep thinking about it, then I think its a lot of money if it doesnt work because of the distance thing. Any other hints to ope from a distance that would help me decide would be appreciated, I've just started to reduce the carbs to start losing a bit, hopefully to get me a bit motivated.

Hi Louise

I think that if you really want to lose weight, then doing Cohen's from a distance will not be a problem for you. There are a number of people here who do it from a distance and cope very well.

My feeling is that with any diet or program you do, it has to be motivated by yourself. Yes, you can join up and have weekly meetings with some of them but it's not so much what happens week by week that keeps you motivated and sticking to the diet/program, it's a daily challenge. No-one can force you to lose weight. No-one can lose weight for you. You have to do it and do it for yourself.

For myself, I've started a number of diets including WW and none of them have been successful because the day to day challenge of eating properly was just too hard, it took a year to lose 10kg and cost more than Cohen's! I still had enormous cravings and as supportive as my family were they didn't really understand the emotional or daily needs of a serial dieter.

Now that I've found Cohen's I find it far easier to stick to the plan because I don't have the cravings! They are gone and the weightloss is so fast that it's very motivating which of course encourages me to stick to the plan. That said, I think the biggest help with Cohen's is this forum. We get this fantastic plan, which is still up to us to stick to, but this forum is so full of love and support and motivation that you don't have to wait a week between meetings for your next boost to be able to stick to the plan for another week.

This forum has hourly (even less time) help! It's full of people with success stories, advice, encouragement etc. and is really like your own cheer squad. If you hop on here when temptation looms or you have exciting losses to share you will find a heap of people waiting to cheer you on. Questions for your consultants are also generally answered here, long before the consultant gets back to you. 9 times out of 10 someone here will have had the same question or fears as you and if it's not already written down, someone will be only too happy to advise you.

This is a long post but I just want to encourage you that Cohen's is the BEST plan you could ever follow and this forum is the best support group. You just need to decide for yourself that you want to lose the weight and go for it. The fact that the consultants who give you your plan are a long way from where you live is a moot point, you will have so many more "consultants" here which will make your weight loss journey seem like a walk in the park. The money you spend on getting your plan is money very well spent!

Hi Louise

I too am a Distance Ed person! =) I live about 5 hours away from my clinic. I didnt meet my consultant till about 6 months in for me. I had spoken to her on the phone maybe once every 2 months or maybe more if needed. I had a bit more contact via email... but again it was only every now and then...it was more about me updating her on my progress than anything else.

I think the thing to remember is that the program is REALLY black and white. If you stick to it as WRITTEN then you cant go wrong!! This really is about your state of mind and how you choose to handle the strictness of program. Can you handle being told that you can ONLY have "this and that"..... and NONE of "that"? Some people hear that they cant have alcohol (or bread or ...?) AT ALL and they give up before they have even started.

The forum really is a great help! It will be there when you are feeling stressed and needy and all the other things you will feel. Its on-call 24 hours a day (unlike your consultant!). You will be able to find many answers to your many questions as you go... (trust me... we've all had MANY questions about ...lots of different things!)
