Default Freezing & Defrosting - my meat is losing weight !!!

I was wondering, does anyone else have the same dilemma as me...
I have been weighing out (precisely, with 1g increments) all my meat, chicken, fish etc for the week ahead, and then freezing.
However, upon defrosting and re-weighing (not sure why I do), but I have noticed that the weights are then 1 or 2 grams less...??? I realise that this may have something to do with water content, interfered with by the freezing and defrosting process. But what to do about this? As it's not that often that I will have just a spare 2 grams of Snapper in the fridge !??!
Should I be concerned?
thanks,

I freeze for both my husband and myself, then weigh mine after it's defrosted, so I don't have the problem. However, I would expect that there would be some loss, as you have found. You could add a few extra grams initially, and weigh again and maybe discard a gram or two if necessary after you defrost.

Back again to do it all over again, starting from exactly the same weight as last time.
My health is not good and my doctor is predicting all sorts of nasty things if I don't lose weight.
What else do I do? I help people make money and I help people save money. Please take a look at http://www.acnlinks.clancie.com.au/
Back again for the support. Still think the diet and the forum are the best ever, but too old to do it again. Now losing again slowly on maintenance diet. Ticker shows next intermediate goal only (5 kilos).

Hi Ruby,

I had exactly the same problem and couldn't figure out for the life of me what I was doing wrong. Until AJ pointed out that it was probably because some of the juices were still left in the bag.....I'm a bit slow sometimes

The way I see it is this, we've already weighed it once to the exact gram and bagged it. Obviously you and I have then weighed it again just to make sure it's correct and found a discrepancy...but how many people don't do that second weigh to double check????? I mean I'm sure a lot of people would trust that they've weighed it and it's right so just cook and eat it - makes sense. So that's what I've been doing as well, I'd rather have 1-2 grams less than have too much. And as you said it's not like we have a couple of extra grams of whatever it is spare in the frigde most of the time.

Happy losing.

Suzie

i have never re weighed my food after freezing and defrosting. i weighed the meat once after cooking and u loose alot of weight when it is cooked. i thought u only weigh when food is raw and just eat that.

Yes, it does seem a bit odd to re-weigh... as I said initially, not sure why I do this anyway...!?!?
A friend of mine who is a scientist seems to think it has something to do with the shrinkage of connective tissue in meats (flesh) once frozen. Anyway, I think I will just stick with weighing once, freezing, and then not checking again.
This is really only confusing me anyway !!
Thanks everyone.
