Default How do you "bake" an apple?

Sorry for the stupid question but I see a bunch of you eating "baked apples". How do I make one? Is it as simple as putting an apple in the oven?

I make mine by coring my apples & placing them in a casserole dish. I mix stevia and cinnamon (strictly to allowed amounts of course) & put mixture in the middle of the apple. I then put approximately half to a third of a cup of water in the bottom of the dish & bake in oven 160 (fan forced) for approx 45 mins. Watch the liquid - add more to keep the apples moist (and the liquid is ultra yummy). I have heard others don't add the spice & sweetener but use diet sprite (or choice of allowed beverage) instead of the water. I'm addicted to my breakfast of baked apple with yoghurt & crumbled crackers - keeps me well satisfied till lunchtime. Happy baking

I use diet coke to cook mine, I imagine its a caramel flavour. I just cut mine in half cut out the seeds with a knife leaving the core so you have a small depression in centre to fill with diet coke as well.
In a small oven prof dish I place apples cut side up, fill dish with diet coke to about halfway up apple, sprinkle cinnamon and little nutmeg. I drop a saccharine tablet in the dish and a half in each hole.
I don't have any sweeteners through the day so I know two at once is probably naughty though!
Bake for a hour. Yum!

Here is a thread Relles made about baked apples not so long ago - you can get some more ideas here

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthr...ght=bake+apple

for me i started with coring and trying it not peeled but then i got lazy and discovered an even more delicious way i like it - I peel it, cut it into 4 pieces, pour sweetner liquid over it and sprinkle it with cinnamon and bake it for 20 - 30 minutes wrapped up tightly in some foil. ( i dont like a baked peel)
Sometimes i crumble 1 salada square over it just before eating , sometimes not

Am super lazy. I used to core them, but now I don't. Usually I bake 3 or 4 at a time. Stab the apples 3 times (I don't peel mine) each, pour in about 100ml or 150ml of coke zero or sprite zero into the bottom of a casserole/oven safe dish. Fan bake 180 degrees (my oven is a bit cold) for 40-45min. When I serve I put cinnamon and nutmeg on it - they go all mushy. I just had one (reheated in the microwave for 40sec as I baked it yesterday).
