Substitute for sweetened condensed milk
1 c. brown sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 2 tbsp. flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt. Mix all ingredients and use as a substitute for sweetened condensed milk in all cooked recipes. I have also replaced the eggs with 2 tbsps of flour and water....cooked it in a saucepan and used it in rum balls...which were very nice! I haven't tested it but I'm sure stevia could also be used. I also used gluten free flour, so both gluten and dairy free.

Re: Substitute for sweetened condensed milk
Hi Ciors,
If you were to make this to use in a cheesecake (no bake) recipe that called for condensed milk...how long do you recommend cooking this for so you can use it in the cheesecake please? Or should I stick to normal condensed milk? Thanks

Re: Substitute for sweetened condensed milk
I think I'd make a really small batch and see if it worked...hard to say without seeing your cheesecake recipe, ie, what function the condensed milk performs in the recipe

Re: Substitute for sweetened condensed milk
Thankyou Ciors!!! Having discovered post-cohens that dairy and gluten do bad things to my gut, this recipe has made me day!!! (and will definitely try it with stevia too )

Re: Substitute for sweetened condensed milk
Thanks Tahli, my sister is sugar/gluten free, and her daughter is dairy free...so, anything I bake for the family has to be dairy, gluten sugar free....challenging!

Re: Substitute for sweetened condensed milk
Just flicking through a recipe book I bought on line called " No Whites Baking Book " They have a sweetened condensed milk recipe worth a look using agave nectar
3/4 cup agave nectar 1/3 cup boiling water 4 tbsp butter 1 cup evaporated dry milk 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1.using electric mixer beat agave, water, butter and vanilla on low speed until blended 2.add evaporated milk and continue to blend on low speed until thick 3. refrigerate for 30 to 60 minutes before use. can be stored in the fridge for up to a week, and can be used to replace a 14 oz can of condensed milk

Re: Substitute for sweetened condensed milk
I bought a bunch of e books the other day and I found this condensed milk substitute ... Untried as still on prescription but looks v simple
1 can full fat coconut milk (14 oz) 1/4 c raw honey (60 ml) Place in pot. Heat on high. Stir continuously for 15 minutes. Will thicken and brown slightly. Makes 1 1/3 cup dairy free condensed milk. Indulge 70 grain free desserts . Carol Lovett
