Question Exercise while on the program

I know we are advised not to exercise while doing Cohens. However, when I lost 20kg a few years back, my skin was v saggy. I dare not bare my belly or wear fitting clothes though I was slim.

Thus this round I thought of adding in exercise so that I can look better and fitter. Anyone tried exercising while on Cohens? Do you feel weak and how do you cope with it?

Hi Starry, I exercise regularly, I play netball and train which involves a fitness circuit and then netball drills.
If I have a hard game of netball or a hard training I can feel a bit light headed afterwards but I just time my meals and snacks to combat this. Like when I have say a 10am game of netball I eat breakfast at 7.30, have a cracker right before I play and then an apple or orange afterwards and then lunch when I get home. My losses have been good but I have exercised a lot over the last couple of years so for me this is a big scaling back to just 2 or 3 times a week. Have you thought about doing something like pilates or yoga which is great for your inner core etc?

Hi Starry,

Was this doing Cohens, or some other weightloss program? See, from what I learned from Asy and a bunch of others on here, is that the HGH that is released while doing Cohens helps to restore skin to its natural position. e.g. a bit like after a pregnancy perhaps?

Other programs may not do that, thus leading to excessive skin at the end of the journey. Have a read of these thoughts (from "Koh's Classics"):-

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9170

And draw heart from Asy's own words - she shed nearly 90Kgs over a year, and, for the year following, her skin continued to shrink as she kept up with the good choices she had learned while on the Cohens Plan. A year after that, her skin had firmed up nicely - pretty jaw-dropping when you consider how much skin is needed to cover a woman weighing 160Kg.

Check with your clinic Starry - they likely have guidelines re "what exercise is OK, and how much of it you can do",

Koh

PS Several people (like Annagirl) who were already exercising PRIOR to Cohens, do keep it up throughout the Cohens Plan, even if at a reduced rate. The key seems to be "Don't ADD any more exercise than you were already doing" without checking with your clinic.

Thanks for dropping by. You exercise prior to cohens. But I was sedentary. Maybe I can try your method, eating some crackers b4 the exercise. And a fruit afterwards. I started on pilates, tot if adding weights training n some cardio. Even without exercises, I feel generally weaker, like no muscle mass. And colder. So I m afraid of fainting!! 😆😆😆

Koh
Yes I lost through Cohens previously. My skin was saggy. Underarms saggy. Tummy skin hanging. I didn't wear sleeveless though I was 50+kg! I am not sure about the others, maybe their skin had better elasticity. I have a lot of stretch marks after child births. Sob😭😭. Sigh why my skin doesn't firm up.

Thanks for the links. I will read through them. I need more motivation to continue losing more weight.

Hi Starry,

I wonder if there's a bit more to it Starry? I once heard a quote that went something like "Obstacles are those frightening things you see when you take your eyes off your goal!"

Have you dropped your eyes off your goal, and are now seeing those little things that could be obstacles if you let them? Hmm? If so, why not turn that around - reset your gaze on your goal :-

"To shed the excess weight (that you know is not good for you) allowing you to become the happiest, healthiest, most energetic Starry that you can be."

Then stride on toward your goal - eyes on the prize - sure, you might stumble a little 'cos you aren't looking down, but you just get back up again and stride on. Then, afterward, when you look back, I'm sure you will be able to see that the obstacles you overcame along the way were nowhere near as frightening as they had appeared to be earlier.

And Starry, if you can take a little more philosophising check out these too (also from "Koh's Classics") :-

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthr...900#post360900

and then follow up with this one:-

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthr...738#post379738

I hope one or all of those were able to give you an "Aha!" moment or two.

Rock on, Starry,

Koh

You are right... I am not focused on my goal anymore. Somehow the 1st round with cohen we stick to the rules so faithfully and we want to reach refeed n finish up the journey. However, restarting it again, we become complacent. 😫😫

Hi Starry,
Quote:

I'm sure I have heard that before - at least, I have heard that the second time can be more difficult, - is it because it is no longer "new and exciting"(?)

But then, I also know that many can do it again if they slipped up after a year or three of maintaining. We are all human after all, and life can sometimes get in the way. So OK - if that has happened, I guess what we must do is to re-commit to the task at hand - if we believe that task must be done, we just get in and do it, yeah?

Let's say the journey seems to "stretch out ahead of you" (e.g. "It'll be after Christmas before I reach refeed), then it is what it is. "After Christmas" is going to come, whether you are on Cohens or not. The thing is - which would be better for you? To be on Cohens until after Christmas, or not? What are your options/choices? Do you choose to buckle down and run the course, opening up your choices re your future after that time?

Like, spend some thinking time considering what you will be able to do after Christmas that you can't do now at your current weight? Are there some things you would LOVE to do but can't? e.g. Have you ever held a goal to "Do the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb?" Could you do that today? Would you love to do it once back to your proper weight? Wouldn't it be an awesome achievement?

Starry, YOU will have goals that you really, really want to reach. Perhaps you have even crushed them down inside your heart, thinking there's "No way you will ever get to do them" But by completing Cohens, all of those might become options on the table once more.

Main thing sweetie, is that YOU have to want them - not for others, but for you - that important ISC* deep down inside you. Let's hear her roar once again.... Rock on Starry,

Hugs,
Koh

* ISC is an acronym used on here for your "Inner Skinny Chick"

I fell off the wagon. Hope to restart in a few days. Seriously need to rethink my goals and follow it through.

I spoke to a personal trainer last week. However she doesn't seem supportive in Cohen, so bleh... not going to sign up w her. She starts questioning me why is it we are allowed this n not that when that is a healthier option. Blab blah. Hard to work with someone not sharing my plan.

The skin under my armpits are so loose. I need to find some strengthing exercises to do... maybe doing some light weights before I restart. So by the time I start, I just continue with what I was already doing.

To lose weight, watch what you eat and engage in a regular workout, drink more water than routine and prefer raw food over proceed food, avoid eating late and focus on cardio exercises more...
