Is there anyone here who had done the root canal procedure?

Hey there,
I had a badly decayed back molar, and it was excruciating. So, I consulted a dentist nearby who recommended removing the molar because most of the tooth structure was infected, and there was a big hole one side. He didn't give me any other options other than removing the tooth. I want to save my tooth. So, for a second option, I thought of consulting a dental clinic in Edmonton.
The dentist suggested doing the root canal treatment to save my tooth. He asked me to think twice before deciding to start the procedure. I've heard that the root canal procedure is painful.
Is there anyone here who had done the root canal procedure?

I'm having mines next week, I'm kinda scared/nervous, I too also really want to know how long the procedure is.
